Matt verderame who is a KC guy and writes for sports illustrated goes on a diatribe about comparing Allen and Mahomes....

The insecurity is pretty ridiculous here

The reason why Tyrod Taylor had fewer INTs and a better completion percentage than Josh the following year was because Tyrod WOULDN'T THROW THE DAMN BALL! He was so afraid of negative plays/INTs that he wouldn't even attempt throws when they were there.

I was a Tyrod fan, mainly because he was a break-up in the monotony of QB’s we had up until that point… but you are 100% correct. This was Tyrod’s biggest fault. He was the anti-Josh. Anti gunslinger. You better be wide freaking open for you weren’t getting the ball as a receiver.

The straw that broke the camels back was that Jacksonville playoff game. It’s the 4th quarter, with a minute left, we have 3 points, and he STILL couldn’t bring himself to throw anywhere even remotely dangerous in order to generate some points. He would rather lose a playoff game than throw the ball.

To be fair though, that offense has no business being in the playoffs.

Let’s beat them in the playoffs before getting all high and mighty. They don’t need excuses, they have rings.

The point isn’t to say that those rankings are right on the money. But the consensus wasn’t that KC’s roster was ultra-loaded. Or that Buffalo’s was awful.
No doubt Mahomes had better receiving weapons, but Allen had a much better defense.

I do think you are right that Allen inherited a better defense. Josh's rookie year the D was in year two of the McDermott / Frazier era and they had started to plug their pieces into the scheme. But the ESPN ranking the Bills roster 16th going into 2018 definitely underestimated how bad the pieces on offense were. It was worse than every offensive roster in the drought years IMO (at least going back to 02 from when I can really speak). We had years with worse olines. We had years with worse skill players but the combination of dreadful line and dreadful skill players in 2018 was the worst I can remember.

It's telling that three of the starting lineup that year - Ducasse, Bodine and Benjamin - never started another NFL game after 2018. Clay started 10, Shady started 9, Di Marco started 4 and Jordan Mills started 2. That means seven of the Bills starters on offense from the 2018 roster between then combined for 25 starts the rest of their careers after that year. Basically other than Josh and Dion the best players on that offense were Zay Jones and John Miller. Let that sink in.

we beat him last year when he was with the giants because he’s so programmed to play it safe that he instinctively threw way high to Waller the last play of the game.

We had some pieces but the 2018 defense was not good.

We gave up 47 to Baltimore, 31 to the Chargers, 37 to Indi, 41 to Chicago, 27 to NYJ, etc.

There was only a few games all season where we kept a team to under 3 TD’s.

It was not very good in the redzone, we were 30th. But we were 2nd in total yards against, top 5 in pressure rate, top 10 on 3rd down, best in yards per drive against... it was not a good redzone defense and it was put in a lot of bad spots by the useless offense. Overall though the Bills defense in 2018 was pretty good.

Especially considering the talent on the roster

I've already said that Mahomes had more talent around him in the first couple years, but that advantage hasn't been there for several years now. You also fail to mention that Mahomes inherited an awful defense.

You're dramatically exaggerating how bad Allen's situation was. Tyrod Taylor of all people got the Bills to the playoffs the year before Allen came into the league. Allen's stats were worse than Taylor's his first year. He clearly wasn't ready to dominate the world at that point, no matter where he landed. Mahomes literally doubled Alex Smith's numbers from the year before, and that was by far Smith's best season as a pro.

The Bills blew up the team. One of these times your team is going to lose bro. Its been close. These two teams are equally matched to the point one play make a difference in a game, or one ref call, or one ball bounce, or one miss field goal, or one coin flip, or one better coaching job. Stop acting like he is superior and in another universe. He aint. Its close.

Because they KNOW their 3 Peat is in big danger. This is their biggest fear. It was us all along. There is no other team in the NFL.

It was us all along.

They can use their "Oh it's their Super Bowl. We played vanilla" slogan all they want.

What we're seeing, right now, is a battle tested experienced Josh Allen. And he's pissed off, too. But he's playing controlled pissed off. Over the years, ESPN, Fox Sports, and Youtube, trashed Josh Allen way more than praising him. And that's fine. We needed that trash talk.

Also, Stefon Diggs forcing his way out of Buffalo while questioning if we were really about winning, pissed all of us. That hurt the most because he was one of us.

Patrick Mahomes' Kansas City Chiefs domination has to end somewhere. It's right around the corner. Think about it like this: the recent match up vs. the Chiefs did not need Josh Allen to put up 300+ yards in the air and 3+ touchdowns thrown.

We still hung 30 points on their heads anyway. Without Diggs, Kincaid, and Keon Coleman.

Our main concern is Josh Allen's health. Patrick Mahomes has stayed injury free. Can Josh do the same?

I honestly don't think KC is going to 3 peat. I think its the Ravens or the Bills.  If they do then they do, but I dont think they are just flipping some switch this year.

They didnt need an elite defense because that offense with Mahomes, Hill, Kelce, Reid took the league by storm and nobody was prepared for it. Meanwhile we have a rookie raw QB with no QB coach throwing to the worst WR group in the league. Kelvin Benjamine. Jedi mental case Zay Jones. Average at best Charles Clay. Then maybe some practice squad guys. Only one of that group that went on anywhere was Zay Jones and he was still JAG.  And its not like your defense was dog crap. They were still decent.

The funny thing is, it’s Bills fans who want to pretend that Allen is clearly better than Mahomes. I’ve never said that Mahomes is significantly better.
