I love Shakir both as a player and a person, but I'm not sure the Bills will be able to afford him.

They are likely not going to break the bank for a slot receiver, nor should they, but it's also likely that somebody else will.

Breaking the bank ? No

But making a fair respectful offer ? Heck yes. The Kid has earned it , the hard way too!

Rousseau, Benford, Shakir and Bernard will all be resigned. Cook wont.

Hmm...

Thats a pretty full plate for Beane to manage.

But he is a Wizard after all 😋

I always find this stuff interesting especially with the systems that the Bills run.

Benford is a top CB in this system but would he excel in another system. Is he worth a 6 year 90 million dollar contract+. He’d probably be the top guy I’d resign

Bernard would seem like the guy to go but he’s the leader of the defense , is a very valuable piece to this defense and would probably be the hardest to replace but he’s also the most injury prone but with Milano likely nearing the end he’s probably worth keeping with Williams as the future tandem

Shakir will probably get 18-20 million dollars to bring back. I am not a proponent of signing WRs to big contracts. He’s Allen’s security blanket right now and there is obviously a really good connection but I’m of believe WRs can be replaced as like as you draft and develop.

I’d probably go Benford, Bernard, Shakir in that order. Hopefully we can keep them all but it’s highly unlikely with Rousseau needing to be paid. That’s why I was surprised they paid Spencer Brown with cheaper options as a replacement

People also need to remember that the Bills can get out of a lot of their bigger contracts in 2026. They can save 17 million on Von Miller, 9 million on Milano if they post June 1st him, 9 million on Knox, and 6 million on Samuel. Obviously some large dead cap with these guys and not all of them will be let go but if they are serious about keeping their young elite players a couple of these moves might be necessary to facilitate this.

Rasul Douglas is a UFA at seasons end. I think it would be wise to let him walk and to take that money and spend it on Benford instead. Draft a CB and have him compete with Elam.

Cooper is also a UFA. I think you do whatever it takes to get both him and Shakir back. Draft another WR on top of it.

Rousseau and Bernard should also be extended immediately.

With whatever’s left (if there’s anything), you extend James Cook or Connor McGovern.

It's an interesting and relevant topic but I am in no rush to extend any of them.

Benford and Bernard are very good players but the combination of having not been particularly durable and being back 7 "system fit" defenders in a McDermott defense tells me that you should probably play those deals out and draft and develop as if they won't be there in 2026.

Shakir is tremendous from the slot but I don't think I could justify extending him for his market value.   Would have to be way under market and considering the punishment he takes I'd be inclined to wait until he puts in a 120+ target kinda' workload (this season + playoffs) and then see if he can bounce back none the worse for it well into next season.   He's sort of the Taron Johnson of the offense guy to me.   I think they originally extended Taron in October or November during his walk season.  Worst case scenario you are stuck replacing the easiest WR position to replace.

After extending Allen,  Greg Rousseau is by far the Bills biggest priority because he's a potential very long term difference maker at the LOS and has a big cap 2025 hit that can be worked down by extending him.   I could see the Bills trying to pair Groot up with an elite pass rusher on the other side.  Then maybe just drafting and developing back 7 replacements,  which has worked out pretty well so far.   That might be the most prudent way to go about it.

Shakir must be re-signed. Pay the price, get your ticket for the show!

He's our Edelman. Always open, catches everything thrown his way, moves the chains.

That is more valuable than saving some money for a different position.

Patriots won at the end of Brady's career with Edelman and Gronk as weapons. When Edelman was out that team really struggled.

Yes, Beane needs to find a way to re-sign all of them. Excellent players.

…and THIS is where we are about to go from a roster with nice depth to an even more top heavy roster. It is inevitable, but I like our  future.

It’s not popular and I wouldn’t like to see it, but let Benford walk. Corners demand way too much money and McD’s defense has had success plugging anyone (but Elam) in.

I also sense that Benford has already hit his ceiling, whereas Bernard, Shakir, and Rousseau have another gear or two in them.

Draft DB high or see what you have in a veteran Elam.

Don't forget to add a new Allen deal to the mix. If the Bills win the Superbowl or get to the Superbowl, Allen could be around the $80 Million a year mark.

Nah, if we win the SuperBowl we can trade him for ten first round picks!

I see a 1st or 2nd round on DL.  Not sure the future with Jones.  He seems to be dropping off fast.

I don't say it's a problem, just not as clear cut as most other positions.  Groot probably is signed long term in the off season.

I believe Rousseau is the priority re-signing this offseason.  The Bills will want to lock him up.  The others will be tough decisions because as we know, they can't re-sign everyone.  My guess is Cooper and Benford.

Shakir's admitted blackout issue could be a concern.

Given the cause it might not be going away anytime soon.
