Scott7975 Posted Tuesday at 09:50 AM Posted Tuesday at 09:50 AM This is the Samuel he has been his whole career. Mixture of injury and not really using him other than garbage gadget stuff is why he didn't really show it until now. I been saying this all year as people said he was a bad signing... he has been a 600-800 yard receiver most of his career. The fact is we just weren't using him until kinda forced to. 1 Quote
dollars 2 donuts Posted Tuesday at 11:15 AM Posted Tuesday at 11:15 AM (edited) Shakir, Cooper, Coleman and now Samuel. Bad things, man…that is some pretty bad things for opposing Ds. Mack Hollins: “Sorry, I was busy showing people how to change the oil on a lawn mower. I make some plays, too.” You do, buddy, you absolutely do. That’s why we love the five of you. Mister Defense Posted Tuesday at 02:12 PM Posted Tuesday at 02:12 PM Not very familiar with Samuel before the Bills signed him--and up until a few weeks ago, still did not really know what he was. Slight guy, gadget guy, who could do a lot of things, but not as good as a true #1 or even #2? Fast, but not a great long ball guy? And he did not sound like a very physical, aggressive receiver. But was hoping he would become excellent under Allen. But now seeing him in action, I think he is very physical, a lot stronger at the catch point than I had thought, and a fast and fiery competitor who will give it his all on every play. If that, what we have seen lately, is the real Samuel, with Coleman coming along very nicely, perennial Pro Bowler Cooper added to the mix, and Hollins now looking like the Gabe Davis I had wanted Davis to be, and with Shakir , Kincaid, Knox, and all of our backs this could become the best group of pass catchers in the league, and soon... Detroit may be the only team with the same kind of talent. 2 Quote
May Day 10 Posted Tuesday at 03:09 PM Posted Tuesday at 03:09 PM If that injury was hampering him, and Sunday was closer to the 'real' Samuel, that is a game-changer for the next 2 years. Completely changes the outlook of the offensive weapons. 2 1 Quote
zow2 Posted Tuesday at 03:51 PM Posted Tuesday at 03:51 PM I feel like Samuel was like this last season with Washington.. He was not healthy and basically did nothing the first 10 games or so, then the last part of the season he was suddenly noticeable and making plays for them. 1 Quote
finn Posted Tuesday at 04:16 PM Posted Tuesday at 04:16 PM The nice thing about this group of receivers is that they're pretty much all on the rise. Samuels appears to be recovered from turf toe, Kincaid is approaching his prime years, Shakir is in already in his prime and still improving, Coleman is adjusting to the NFL and starting to show his talent, and Cooper is just now learning the offense and developing chemistry with Allen. Hollins and Knox aren't necessarily improving, but they provide reliable veteran depth. In other words, the best of this group lies ahead. Meanwhile, Brady is dialed in, the running backs are young, versatile, and fast, the O-line is approaching elite, and Allen, well, Allen of course is The One. Looking forward to the rest of the season! 2 Quote

Has Brady not been designing plays to go to him? Does Allen prefer to trust Kincaid or Coleman? Or has Samuel been "working his way healthy", which Shakir kind of implies: Training room...out on the field after....don't think that's the routine unless a player has some kind of injury bothering him. I actually had that thought when I was listening to Paddy M. talk about how you need your best football to beat a great team. Buffalo was far from playing their best football on offense. Had some gaps and glitches on defense too. Outstanding. Thanks for this! Quote
elroy16 Posted Tuesday at 08:04 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:04 PM His TD was nice, but his catch and juke to get a first on 3rd on the first drive of the game was a great play. He looked a lot quicker on Sunday than he has all year. 3 1 Quote

Shakir is going to continue getting targets. So is Amari Cooper. Hopefully Keon Coleman continues of his upward trend and continues to get opportunities to contribute. And, of course, a healthy Kincaid is going to have his catches. Counting Kincaid, Samuel is likely the fifth receiver for the Bills and the fifth receiver rarely gets many opportunities when the guys ahead of him are healthy. You may be right but I don't think this is a traditional 5/6 man receiving corps with three starters and the rest backups. My guess is that Brady sees something different in all these guys. Even when we're fully healthy (and I hope that happens and remains the case through the playoffs), I still expect Samuel - and Hollins - to get snaps depending on playcalls and packages. 1 Quote

billsfan89 Posted Wednesday at 01:42 AM Posted Wednesday at 01:42 AM I hope so Bills will need all the firepower they can get. I think turf toe really hurt his production as while it is something you can play through you need a good amount of rest to actually recover. He looks faster and more agile the last game or so than he has all season. With a bye week to further help heal his injury I think the Bills are gonna see him be even more productive. Quote

I agree that he and Hollis will get snaps and receptions. Will it be enough for fans to see him as a star? That's another question. I happen to think that Kaiir Elam is a talented CB. He was solid when he had to sub in for a starter (Douglas?) a few games back. With Benford and Douglas on the team, and healthy, Elam for all his potential is basically only going to get snaps in garbage time at the end of games when the score is not close. I know it's not the same thing with cornerback, but it's simple mathematics that say opportunities will be harder for Samuel to come by with all the receivers healthy. 1 Quote

Very few do, he's elite in the scheme of the whole league in that area. I think Samuel is a more explosive athlete. 10 yard race, he wins over everybody on our WR roster, doing it sideways, Shakir would. 1 Quote
Scott7975 Posted Wednesday at 04:03 AM Posted Wednesday at 04:03 AM (edited) That catch for the TD that he just extended his arms while his body wasnt exactly the right way and he just snatched that missile out of the air was impressive to me. You don't see a Bills receiver do that often. I think Diggs was good at that. No I am not calling Samuel Diggs by a long shot. Im just saying we haven't had too many receivers that could snag a ball like that. Those are the type of balls that if the receiver doesnt snag it, its probably gonna be an int. Wow, had not seen those stats. Thanks. Wonder why the Bills have not used him more on runs and sweeps, as we had heard a lot about that when he was signed. Teams are so worried about Allen running, and getting outside the pocket to make plays downfield, that if he can get the ball to the fastest players, like Samuel and Cook on the outside, it would add a new dimension to defend. Samuel could become a great players for this team, and on the cheap too. 1 Quote
