BuffaloBillyG Posted November 18 Posted November 18 They have to. His portion of salary guaranteed for injury makes him playing a liability for next season. He's done in New Jersey. 5 9 Quote
Billsturfwars Posted November 18 Posted November 18 The whole league knew that contract was a bad idea.. except the Giants brass... QB Whisperer huh. 2 5 1 Quote
Bruffalo Posted November 18 Posted November 18 He's definitely the main problem with that offense, so it's the right choice. Probably should have done it before the season started, but I understand the optics there. 1 Quote

The most important thing for the Giants’ success was DJ becoming a good starting QB. Not retaining a good 28 year old running back. The ownership wanted Jones to succeed and hired Daboll to fix him. They weren’t ready to accept he wasn’t the guy. Schoen/Daboll got him weapons, improved his OL, and he still stinks. They should get a shot with their own QB imo. The Barkley thing is a total red-herring. The Giants would still be terrible and benching Jones with him. 4 2 Quote
Coastie Posted November 18 Posted November 18 (edited) I think the worst thing that happened to the Giants and Daboll was that unexpected playoff win resetting the bar on the team and QB when the reality was they aren't a team with the talent to regularly win playoff games. mushypeaches Posted November 18 Posted November 18 Daboll will be coaching at Alabama again next year Schoen will be assistant to the assistant GM in Buffalo 1 1 Quote
Buffalo_Stampede Posted November 18 Posted November 18 Going to Tommy Devito instead of Lock is an interesting move. Devito is more of a runner. So I won’t expect this move to help Nabers. 2 Quote
Big Turk Posted November 18 Posted November 18 (edited) Schefter was right...Jones is done in NY and they are pulling the Russ with Denver last year, benching him to avoid potential serious injury which would cause his guarantees for next year to kick in. Edited November 18 by Big Turk 1 2 Quote

DeVito is a desperate reach to see if there is a NFL QB within him which they can work with. 1 Quote
Beck Water Posted November 18 Posted November 18 (edited) 1 hour ago, Dablitzkrieg said: Sadly, I think Daboll could be next All these guys have egos. McDermott talks his "humble and hungry" game, but make no mistake, he's got an ego, he just keeps it on a leash. Daboll took the leash off his ego after his first year with the Giants. I think Daboll meeting the Turk is a "needs to happen". He started thinking he knew more than McDermott in Buffalo. McDermott would tell him you got to be able to run the ball sometimes (his perspective as a DC that if a team can't run, it's so much easier to attack them defensively) and Daboll started hearing "Blah blah, Ginger. Blah blah blah blah Ginger." He got the Giants gig and got to the playoffs his first year, and that told him he was Right Right Right. Will be interesting to see what happens next. 1 hour ago, Coastie said: I think the worst thing that happened to the Giants and Daboll was that unexpected playoff win resetting the bar on the team and QB when the reality was they aren't a team with the talent to regularly win playoff games. Here's the thing though. They had that FA and draft, and two more since, to become a team with the talent to regularly win playoff games. Edited November 18 by Beck Water 2 Quote
davefan66 Posted November 18 Posted November 18 Jones should never have gotten that contract. He absolutely needed to be pulled many games ago. Love the two NJ teams are terrible, especially with Jones and Rodgers their QB’s. I don’t think Daboll is a good head coach, but definitely was a good OC, especially with Buffalo QB 1. If we lose Brady in the off-season it will be interesting to see what the push will be to bring him back. Not sure who is in our pipeline to be next OC. I absolutely do not expect him back in Buffalo under McD ever TBH. Schoen will most likely be back in Buffalo. Will wait for his next GM gig after the stink of Jones gets off him. 1 Quote

Agree, some GMs and owners luv to pay their QBs as if it’s a bragging rights thing, so they end up overpaying average at best QBs with great regularity and luv to pretend these jag QBs are franchise players, when they aren’t even close to that.
