Ok, he can be a buffoon, but 2 comments I heard this morning:

1  "Patrick Mahomes might be the best QB in the league but Josh Allen is the best football player in the league."

2. "Josh Allen has never lost to the Chiefs.. the Bills have lost to the Chiefs but Allen has not."

Interesting take.

True to form with Rex, those are two things that make a lot of sense until you start to think about them.

Funny. But honestly, he's right especially about Allen not losing the the Chiefs (although he didn't play great in the AFC title game in 2020). For the most part the Bills defense or coaching has lost the playoff games against the Chiefs. Allen has been the best QB in the playoffs against KC during their ridiculous run of dominance.

I think Rex shied away from the reality of the situation.   Mahomes has the better career to this point but at the moment Josh is the best QB in the NFL.

PM has the rings but you have to wonder what Josh's career would have looked like if he had gone to KC and Andy? Bills were a disaster when Allen showed up.
To me Mahomes and Allen are in a class by themselves. Maybe Burrow also belongs in that group (despite his wardrobe).

If you were in a position to draft any of those guys, who would you pick?

I think he's wrong about number 1: Josh is also the best QB in the NFL right now.

He's certainly correct with #2

Lamar is definetely in the conversation, but Allen is more of a complete player.

To me Lamar is not in the discussion when it comes to who is the best QB. The reason is because until he changes the narrative he struggles mightily against top Ds like Pitt and KC. Conversely Allen (and Mahomes/Burrow) play well when the lights shine brightest. Also Lamar tends to feed stats wise on NFC teams who are not used to seeing or scheming to defend him. But he's still a great player imo.

In the same segment Damien Woody said Josh was the best QB in the league right now (to the gasps of some over St Patty)

Also on Sportscenter Herm Edwards also had the Josh is the best football player take

1. is an interesting comment.  Some truth there though this year is different for Josh as a QB.

2. would require a caveat.  2020 October, Josh had a sprained L shoulder but he also didn't play a good game.  2021 playoff, Josh lost to the Chiefs.  Played like hell, but he couldn't decode their defense and wouldn't take the underneath stuff they were leaving him all game.  To his credit, he learned something.  You could make a case for Ryan's point from then on.

He doubled down on buffoonery.

He all but agreed when Damien Woody stepped in and called Josh the best QB in the league.
