Yeah, I do not underatand. The Bills are one of the top teams in the NFL. They are competing for the 1 seed.

I was just interested by the mathematics, that it is easier right now for the Bills to win the division than to get a wild card berth

I think they have a real chance at the one seed. Buffalo still isn't playing their best football and I think when the playoffs start I think the bills and Allen are going to go full 1989 49ers in the playoffs and destroy everyone. We would've done that in the 21 playoff if tre white never got hurt....

Maybe I'm a homer but I truly believe that if we go in fully healthy

We also have real depth where if a couple guys go down I still think we will win it all.

That, of course, depends on what the Chiefs do over their remaining games.  Their toughest opponents remaining are the Chargers, Steelers and Texans.  The toughest games for the Bills ahead are the 49ers and Detroit Lions.  It won't be a piece of cake for the Chiefs to run the table, but I don't expect them to lose more than one additional game.  If they do manage a record of 15-2, that forces Buffalo to run the table (Buffalo has the head to head tie-breaker).  With Detroit in particular, that is a tall order, though not impossible.  Buffalo versus Detroit could well be a Super Bowl preview.

I'm just glad that the Bills are in a position that we are trying to see how they could not make the playoffs.  Last year was so stressful watching so many games needing to break their way for them to have a chance.

I like the position they are in this year a whole lot better.

Here’s a very possible, maybe even likely scenario:

Dolphins have 2 games before the Bills face 49ers a week from next Sunday night.
Should the fish lose either game, the Bills can (and should) clinch their 5th straight AFC East title.
I think McDermott has something close to a perfect record following the bye.

They’ll be at home, rested, with (presumably) key players returning to action.
Less than bold prediction- Bills get title and 7th playoff appearance in 8 years.
That would include 6 consecutive playoff appearances , equaled only in Bills’ history by the ‘88-‘93 teams.

The vision of the 17 year drought is fading fast in the rear view mirror.

Getting to a Super Bowl is not easy. Winning is even harder. I don’t know if the Josh/McDermott Bills will experience it, but I like their chances a whole lot better than I did in the years leading up to Beane’s and McDermott’s arrival.

This might be the most beautiful thing I've ever read on these boards

i was hedging coming into kc thinking the 2 seed was tops, that the afc north would beat each other up, and kc could not be taken off of their perch.

i now see 3 ways (as a poster above stated) that the road to the superbowl goes through buffalo.

1 is kc is one seed, but the bye isn't enough to get them fully healthy post the tough end of year and they are just in a funk or whatever and lose the first game.  this has happened historically a few times (tenn was 1 seed, loses to bengals, balt was 1 seed, lost to tenn)  as the 2 seed, we play at home.

2.  we win the 1 seed by winning out, we get the bye, we are fully healthy and just slaughter or opponents, cruise into the super bowl vs detroit or possibly philly and we do enough to slow their running and take away big passes that they get like 24 points max, an we just run and gun up their butts on O and allen puts up disgusting numbers that make people think he's a bully and then as bills fans we march on other cities and rebuild the world in our image.  I like this scenario best.

3.  we stumble a bit, maybe 1 or even 2 more losses, detroit looms large for that, but kc not blowing people out catches up and they drop 3 and we have the same record and the tie breaker.  we still have the one seed and the bye gets us healthy and then we see what can happen in the post season

I think we end up with the 2 seed and will face the Broncos.  So glad the Bengals lost last night.  Best case scenario if we can't catch the Chiefs is Steelers win the North and the Ravens get the 5 seed.

This is my prediction which I think is where they actually seed now...

1.) Chiefs

2.) Bills

3.) Steelers

4.) Texans

5.) Ravens

6.) Chargers

7.) Broncos

Final four would be Ravens @KC and Steelers @Buff.

Maybe the Ravens take them out and we host them for the AFC Championship game.

I don’t get the fear of the bengals personally I’d probably rather see them than the broncos. That bengals defense has regressed massively.  there are a lot of tangible reasons they have 7 losses right now

Broncos lost to the chiefs on a mostly freak play and that defense looks great but what Payton can get out of nix is a big unknown

It's a quarterback league and Bo Nix isn't Joe Burrow at this point.  Plus, McDermott's defense eats rookie QB's for breakfast.

Agreed.

I want no part of the Bengals in the playoffs.

I absolutely loved it personally. Were able to see what this team is really all about when the season is on the line amid adversity.

I know we're sky high right now but it's not inconceivable that we lose two of our next three and then sweep the remainder of the year to finish 13-4.  I think the Chiefs finish 14-3 or 15-2.  I hate my prediction because I try to be positive but the Chiefs are battle tested.  I'd project us as the one seed if the darn Broncos could execute a short field goal.

Again I don't know how it will play out but  KC still plays the Chargers, Steelers, Texans  and the Broncos that should of already beaten them. I think it's possible they can lose 2 of those games. I also think the Bills will most likely drop one to the 9ers or Lions

It’s an everything league lol. A lot of these teams that go on runs have great defenses too.  The conference finals last year had the number 1,2, and 3 top defenses in points allowed per game in the regular season and the top 7 were all playoff teams with 5 making it through the wildcard round (Steelers played another team in the top 5 so one was losing there no matter what lol).

This year if you do a points allowed per game sort 10 of the top 11 teams you see are playoff teams with Washington not being far outside that and Houston id say has a very good defense so points allowed isn’t really telling the full story for them

id be curious to look at it by dvoa but it looks like you’ve gotta pay to get the more specific info now 🤣

Magic number for # 1 see between BUF and KC is 8… and Steelers need to lose 1

to test week 18 as #1 then 9 with Steelers Losing 2

KC at Steelers on Xmas

right now Bills lose to Steelers on conference record when Steeler L to nfc once, thus better AFC record in conference . Against nfc bills are 2-0 with 49ers, rams, lions while Pitt is 3-1 with  PHL KC is 4-0 and play CAR next week.

bills Steelers common games are Jets, ravens,  chiefs, Colts

Bills 3-1 with Jets, Steelers are 2-1 with chiefs and ravens

steelers beat chiefs that eliminate KC in a 3 tea, buf- pitt-kc tiebreaker where one lost to other two teams l if KC W and it’s a 3 team tiebreaker it goes to conf record , then strength of schedule

Man I love your positivity. Not sure I’m quite as high on the Bills but it’s a nice change from all the negative nabobs.

I second that. So far this year has been great. I’m sure most of us were concerned after the Texans game but since then, for the most part, it’s been terrific to watch.

With you. I actually feel they lose at least 3 of those, if not all 4, you mentioned.

Also feel we drop 2 more games and finish with the same 13-4 record as them.

Salah was a bad HC. He deserved to be fired, but doing it 5 games in was stupid. It told the entire coaching staff and roster that changes were coming. With a 40 year old QB and rapidly closing window, it accomplished nothing other than to add a distraction

Saleh was a significant part of the distraction.  The defense resented he would stand up to Rodgers and the crappy Offense.

There was no chance Saleh was getting this team to the playoffs. None.  So firing him after 5 games was of no consequence.

Getting the 1 seed will be tough.  We don’t control our destiny.  Unless we win out, we need Cheifs to lose two more games.  The only two games I can see them losing are their final two games of season @Pitt @ Denver but I’d be shocked if they lose back to back games.

7 out of their 9 wins were by one score or less. They can lose to anyone on their schedule, save maybe the Panthers. At this point I would be surprised if they finish with only one more loss down the stretch. 5-2 finish for them would be a good finish. 6-1 or better seems unlikely.

Just kidding...old habit as a drought era Bills fan.  With this team we can absolutely talk about Playoffs :D

This was a classic.

That’s fair and probably true. But if woody wasn’t sure in October if Salah could do the job, he should have let him go in January after last season
