They never showed an angle during the broadcast that showed us when the ball crossed that field of the crossbars. So, I have no idea if it was good or not. Sometimes they show the angle from the camera looking up from the cross bar, but they didn't show that.

Regardless, Bass needs to hit a better ball so that he doesn't put it in the hands of the refs. And if it was a snap issue that threw off the timing, they need to clean that up as well.

He it to high and he had some speed on it that’s why I think it was good but so hard to tell via the one replay and the camera view but I have seen that same kick called good a lot

I'm sure that this is not statistically correct, but it seems to me that kickers are missing makeable kicks at a much higher rate this year. Evan McPherson missed two last night that cost the Bengals the game and perhaps ended their season. He had been, up until this year, very reliable. Justin Tucker is also missing kicks. What's going on?

nah.  hell , Justin Tucker is now missing kicks left and right (pun intended) .  let it go.

There are kicking issues all around the league right now. There must be something in the water.

There's no way to tell for sure unless you see the camera angle looking up from the goal posts. The other angles don't show when the ball crosses.

The trust issues with Bass were a huge sub-plot to coaching in this game IMO.  The XP miss (and I'm with those thinking they should have the tech at this point for a much better way to view it) went a long way to strategy throughout the game.

Affected the decision not to try a 53 yarder.

Affected the decision to go for it on 4th and 2.  It changed the odds of whether it was a gimme.  We're not hearing a lot from the anti-McD crowd but that certainly wouldn't be the case if that 4th and two failed and KC got a winning FG.

They were always gonna go for it. Mahomes marched down the field to make it 23-21. You gonna go up by 5 and give Mahomes the ball back with two timeouts and a couple of minutes of clock?

You know how that story ends.

Footballs regularly hit the goalposts…but some bounce in while others doink out. The camera wouldn’t solve the randomness of the way a football bounces. Just saying.

If the ball crosses the plane of the crossbar, and any part is above the goalposts then it should be good, right? What does bouncing have to do with that?

Huh? Have you never seen a football bounce off the crossbar or goalpost and bounce wide or low?

I agree and liked the gutsy decision.  But it wasn't done by analytics.

McD did it with your thoughts in mind, it was Mahomes and KC and he didn't want that situation.  But most of the time you take the 5 point lead and make the other team score a TD.

I read on one of these threads yesterday that someone noted that Martin’s hold was off on the miss.  Whether or not that’s correct I don’t know 🤷‍♂️.

I wouldn’t take the points and give the ball back to:

- Lamar

- Joe Burrow

- Goff/Lions

- Mahomes

- Baker

People, come on! The NFL positions a referee directly under each goalpost just so that they can make these calls. If those guys are so incompetent that they can’t look and see the ball then there’s a way bigger problem here!

Better question is why didn't they go for two at any point to try and get the point back?

That's normally what teams do... especially against the Chief's where a FG could've won the game for KC if Allen didn't score.

It may have been good, but yet again shows how unreliable Bass has been. The XP to make it 23-14 was barely inside the upright as well. Meanwhile, a guy off the Jets practice squad was knocking his kicks straight through without issue.

Why not (hockey it up) and put on a top crossbar?  Move the extra point kick back to the 2 yard line, put the fake back into the game.  Use old time hash mark system to position the ball where runner crossed the goal line, (extra point use only) making kickers do angle kicks again. While I’m at, the new kickoff rule is pathetic.  Put it back where it was and make the kick teams wear guardian helmets.

I really don’t think any change is needed, but it could look pretty cool if they just projected some light up from the goal post. That makes seeing it that much easier for the guys below the posts.

With this and hockey, I’m can see why they might not want to put any ringing in there that could potentially change how a ball/puck bounces off of it.

I also noticed the snap was high.  Many feel Bass issues are mental, but after seeing he missed the XP on the high snap, makes me wonder if it's more technique, that he's just to anxious and needs to wait a split second longer, but instead he gets moving too early.  If the snap is perfect, no issues, but if anything is off by just a fraction, then his timing is all off too and he misses them.  Maybe he gets too amped up??

If that is true McD's gut must align with analytics very consistently. Because over 5 years he is top 5 of going with the numbers.
