Buffalo_Stampede Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Im wondering who messed up on the Worthy deep incomplete. Was that Taylor Rapp? 1 Quote
Magox Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago I thought the Chiefs had a really good defensive game, they were stout against the run and made the Bills earn every yard they got. It just happens to be that they ran into a very determined Bills and Josh Allen team that was able to execute on high leverage moments throughout the game in a manner they hadn't faced. Just a really gritty and gutty performance by the Bills and Josh Allen. 3 Quote

National media always makes it about Allen vs Mahomes but the McDermott vs Reid matchup is also very juicy. It just doesn’t get national coverage. I don’t know why. Do they forget that Reid gave McDermott his first job in the NFL when he wasn’t even 30 years old. McDermott was with him for 10+ years. I don’t know, it just seems like this is one of the more interesting coaching rivalries in NFL history that never gets talked about. National media is pretty garbage, and that probably goes double for sports media. Broadcasting during games in particular is as weak as it’s ever been, these days. At this point, I expect to get more accurate analysis in the game day thread on this forum than I do watching a broadcast. Legitimately. 1 Quote
Logic Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago 42 minutes ago, GunnerBill said: Yesterday was a fun game because you saw a development in strategy between the two teams. They both tried to break tendency on defense. The Chiefs played more zone defense than they normally do against the Bills and the Bills played more man defense than they normally do against the Chiefs. It was a fascinating chess match which stopped either QB playing their best overall game BUT was sprinkled with high end throws by both of them in certain moments. Maybe it was the lack of genuine season jeopardy in it, maybe it was the strategy nerd in me, maybe it was the sense of balance between O and D, but I REALLY enjoyed that game. Though despite the lack of jeopardy I still roared the Allen TD run and the Bernard pick. Was fascinating to watch the replay of Josh's 4th and 2 run. Bills ran mesh, but Chiefs had the perfect zone playcall on and everyone was covered perfectly. Had Josh Allen not put on the cap and made that play, it would've been Chiefs ball with a short field to get into game winning field goal range. Interestingly, the Chiefs had no spy on Josh on that play. I wonder if Josh repeatedly patiently taking what the defense gave him most of the game caused them to eschew a spy there, or if it was the run threat needing only 2 yards or what. Brady vs Spags and Babich vs Reid was fascinating all night. To see it culminate in Spags having ALMOST the perfect playcall on that 4th and 2 -- save for the lack of spy -- and then see Josh Allen capitalize and win the game for the Bills...Awesome stuff. 1 Quote

Governor Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago The few time they showed Reid on the sidelines he had the look of being overmatched. I haven’t seen that in years. 2 Quote

I want to give Van Demark his propers, but it needs also to be remembered that he raised eyebrows a bit when he was kept as our swing tackle backup last season, because he was still very much a work in progress as a RT. I would say he's improved quite a lot, but RT is still not his strong side. Van Demark played decently, but yeah, we missed Spencer Brown. Edited 18 hours ago by Beck Water 1 Quote

davefan66 Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Kinda forgot about this play, but just heard someone mention on WGR. Don’t know if it was mentioned here. Did anyone else notice the one play in the 3rd quarter where mahomes started to “walk off” the field while the rest of the team kinda stayed in place? I truly believe he wanted to go out for a pass for the first down. Wish he had tried as Douglas would have LIT him up! Kind of a high school play, but if it works? Shame on the NFL defense. Quote
skibum Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Amazing game for the D, amazing work by the O to overcome the lack of Kincaid and Coleman. Josh had a big-balls TD run. A complete victory that could have been a blowout if not for one bad pass. 1 2 Quote

If it's the play I'm thinking of it was a play the Chiefs were trying to get Buffalo to jump Offside - I remember at the time thinking wtf was that and when I rewound it I think he was just trying to do something crazy there at the end to make someone jump - almost semed ad-libbed to me though it was just so odd 2 Quote

I pointed out earlier this week how that power component is something that no other QB has. In this game Josh converted: 3rd and 2 3rd and 1 3rd and 1 4th and 2 In his career now (according to the Buffalo News) he's 52 of 63 (83%) for his career converting 3rd and 1 via the run and 29 of 32 on fourth-and-1 runs (90.6%). There is zero way Lamar Jackson is even close to these numbers... he weighs 200 lbs dripping wet. The other thing too is while Lamar is a good passer, he doesn't have close to the arm strength of Allen. He runs to set up the pass, Josh can do either. In the past folks were worried, Allen is going to get banged up from all the running and become another Cam Newton. But Newton never had the arm. Allen could still thrive as a pocket passer, Newton, or Jackson can't! 1 Quote

Believe if Douglas isn’t sharp on that play, mahomes does try and go out for a pass. Not well designed, and love they lost the ability to try that play again. All teams will definitely be aware of it moving forward. 17 minutes ago, Buffalo_Stampede said: Looks like cover 2 and Rapp got beat, out of position. stlbills13 Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago (edited) This is a great problem to have but over the past few weeks, we've had enough guys elevate their game to a point where it won't be possible to re-sign all of them most likely. But we've been drafting pretty well lately. Benford Groot Bernard Torrence Cook (he's the most replaceable IMO) Shakir Dorian Williams Obviously you still have to perform at this level in January and February but there's some damn good players on this roster Edited 17 hours ago by stlbills13 Quote
