I get the fans frustration. We go out and spend a 3rd round pick on a one year rental player, a shiny new toy for JA17 and in the first month we've gotten a game and a half out of him and if he sits this one out it'll turn into 1 1/2 games in a month and a half. Will he be recovered after the bye or will this be an ongoing problem for the rest of his tenure here ?

The team only has four options ... 1. Play him even if doing so makes it worse ... 2. Sit him until he's healthy ... 3. Amputation ... 4. Spleen transplant.

Options 3&4 might be a bit drastic for now but if Coleman is back before him ...

Technically he's had one good half as a Bill.  And when exactly did this mystery wrist injury happen?  I didn't see it in the 2 games he played.  Was it in practice?

Playing poorly is the worst thing a pending FA can do (next to having a catastrophic injury). Not playing isn’t great, but it’s not nearly as bad. But we don’t even know whether or not he’s going to play. There are a lot of people here that are getting ahead of themselves on that. If I was McDermott I would want to keep KC guessing on whether or not he is going to play. Cooper’s impact on the defensive play calling is huge. No need to tell KC how to game plan for us.

You could be right of course that McDermott is just keeping his cards close, but it does not seem like that to me.  The implication of his words seem like something very different, like he is trying to motivate him.  It could all be nothing of course and maybe he will play and there is no issue with his desire or commitment to the team.  We will see, but I think it is a warning sign.

As far as his prospects in free agency, I could not care less.  I only care about the Bills getting the expected value this year from the investment of a third round draft choice.  To achieve that, he needs to be on the  field.

He obviously doesn't think he is healthy enough to play. Players know their bodies. Of course some have higher pain thresholds than others, but I just don't see the sense of taking a risk at this point if he is saying he is not healthy enough to play.

But what to you make of McD's strange commentary around the issue?  He's not really one to say anything that could be viewed in a way to create this perception.  That's what makes me scratch my head.

Particularly because the division is looking like it’s locked down baring an Allen injury or something else causing a collapse.

As I said in my first comment in the thread, it's definitely concerning that there may be some disconnect between the team and the player about whether he is ready to go. But ultimately if the only difference between the two positions is whether he plays this week I'm absolutely fine with erring on the side of uber cautious. If he misses Sunday, has the bye and is still saying he can't go against the 49ers that is the moment to really freak out about it. For now it is a concern but a concern with a small impact.

Kinda seems like McD is saying the Bills have cleared him to play but Cooper feels that he is in too much pain. McD notes that he isn’t even sure what the next step would be to get him back.

Just what exactly did he do to hurt his wrist has anyone said or is there anything on video that might lend a hint to how this happened ?

The way he stumbled on the TD i would have thought he could have hurt his leg but i never saw what caused his injury . Maybe Josh just delivers it to hot for him to handle & it hurt his wrist that way ...

I could be convinced to consider the same thing. If I saw what McDermott actually said.

So far in this thread I have yet to see a single post with an exact quote of McDermott's statement.

I see some paraphrasing and the ensuing reading of tea leaves, but not a direct quote from the man himself.

Interesting the way this board and some fans are slowing turning on someone who has an injury.

The guy is injured in some capacity.  He will play if able.  Lets just leave it at that.

Completely agree with resting players with the bye coming up and our overall advantageous situation.

My concern is more macro with Cooper.  Maybe it's his unique personality that rubs people the wrong way but no one has ever accused him of being "all ball."  You'd like to see a little more energy out of the guy and drive to compete.  It's probably why he's bounced around, not really a guy you want to build a locker room around.  But, he fills a massive need and hopefully will be the piece we need down the stretch.

It wasn't even what he said. Its more about his body language before and after he said it.  The subtle weight shift and the crossing/uncrossing of his arms, you can tell he thinks Amari is faking it.

I don't know how many times I've tried to tell that man to go take a leak before he speaks with the press.

Cooper has always been a pro. I don't think he's the kind of person who would sandbag. As for him needing to be on the field, that is particularly true in the playoffs. If he has to take off this Sunday and rest through the bye week so he can get healthy, then that's a lot better than him playing, getting hurt worse and going on IR. Or if it is just a matter of his ability to perform, then it's a question of whether he'd be helping or hurting the team by taking the field. None of us know what the situation is and assuming the worst of Cooper is pretty sad.

According to what Sal said on Schopp and the Bulldog last week, he said that Cooper said he got the injury while trying to make a block on a run play. He fell and tried to catch his balance and he put his hand on the turf awkwardly and it caused his wrist to get hurt. But Cooper and McDermott have pretty much said that it is a pain tolerance thing at this point. So, I'm not sure why he can't just take a shot and play through it

There are eight weeks left in the regular season (including bye), and hopefully a long run in the post season.

Plenty of time for Cooper to have a major impact, despite fan impatience.

a lot of wrist injuries on the team this year..

It's not something I remember seeing a lot of league-wide.

Obviously it's just random but notable.

One of the risks you take when you bring a guy in midseason is that he doesn't have the same investment in the team as his new teammates.  Some guys are natural alpha competitors who will bring the fire wherever they go.  Other guys... are like Amari.

Amari had 725 yards in 9 games after joining Dallas mid season.  Those numbers would make him the 3rd highest in the league in 2024.

I don’t think this is an either or.  Either and alpha competitor or what you are suggesting Amari is.  There IS an in between.  I don’t know what Amari IS as of yet, but based on the bolded, I don’t see how that applies to Amari based on his career.  We actually have something to base it off….and Amari balled out after the trade.

I don’t blame the guy for not playing if he’s injured.  For a WR, a wrist injury is no joke.  Especially a WR who’s had several drops already this season.  Get the wrist healthy, then suit up.  Super bowls aren’t won in November

Clip?

Was in a tweet today from Alex Brasky.

The tweet stated: "During Thursday #Bills practice, WR Amari Cooper (wrist) appeared to increase his participation from what we saw last week. Thursday, Cooper caught passes both from coaches and QB Josh Allen. A good sign that he is trending toward a return following a 2-game absence #BillsMafia"
