He never did anything in Buffalo except being born here? I don't recall him being active in the community ever. Not only that but he left williamsville north because their football team wasn't good enough and moved to Pennsylvania to finish his HS career. He never moved back to the WNY area after his career or maintained a residence. 1 hour ago, DrDawkinstein said: ***** Gronk. The first slap in the face was how for his first few years in the league he never claimed to be from Buffalo, but instead claimed he was from Pittsburgh since that is where he finished High School. Then all those years he cooked the Bills as a Pat. Which I totally understand is his job, but I can hate him for that just like I do Tom Brady and Julian Edelman. The cheap shot on Tre which he has never really been sorry for is just the cherry on top. Not even mentioning that he's never done anything for the Buffalo/WNY community even in retirement. Not a fan. Never will be. He completely abandoned buffalo and pretended like it didn't exist. He only recently started talking about the city and his time here in a positive light once the bills and josh allen started winning. 2 1

In all seriousness, I always thought he was a mildly entertaining buffoon, but never associated him with Buffalo. Even though it was known fact, it just seemed he wasn't from Buffalo. A bit like your place of birth, you might be born there but that doesn't mean you identify as 'being from there'. Rocky Landing
Gronkowsky is Buffalo's Anakin Skywalker. One might have thought he was cool, coming from WNY, and all. But then he went to the dark side. And he won't find redemption until he's dead. 38 minutes ago, JohnNord said: But if the guy who took the cheapshot and his teammates don’t care why should you? It seems like such a moot point now, no? Tre White taking the high road doesn't take Gronk off the low road. 1

Bills must have thought a whole hell of a lot of Shawn Nelson to choose CJ Spiller and Torell Troup over a physical phenom who grew up 25 minutes from the stadium. One of the best to ever play his position. Agreed. As to why the Bills did not go after him, it may have been because he had back surgery while in college. That is exactly why every team passed on him, and also why the Pats doubled down and took Hernandez 2 rounds later.

I really don't care that much. It is not something I think about or stress about. But it is something that disappointed me at the time and just solidifies that he is a block head. He apologized immediately following the game, and if he would have left it at that, it would have been fine. But each time he talked about it since he has made it clear that he does not regret it or think that it was a big deal. And that's fine. But it makes him a lot less likeable for me and for plenty of other fans. It isn't that I'm continually thinking about it. But it permanently altered my opinion of him. Before then, I actually liked him a lot. I thought he was fun. He had a crazy personality. He is lower character than I thought, though, and the Tre White incident and his remarks illustrated that.

Riverboat Ritchie
Don’t understand all the Gronk hate. He didn’t choose to go to NE and the Tre White hit is such a long time ago. Sure he could of talked about area more but he hasn’t been retired that long and I think he still has family members in area and visits. He speaks highly of area now and at end of day he is one of the best ever football players to come out of WNY.

Pete
Did anyone listen to Gronk interview on WGR? Gronk said he grew up a huge Bills fan, and was a big Bills fan through college. He said he got to Patriots, and he hated the Bills. But now that he’s retired, “you can’t take Buffalo out of the kid. I’m back to being a huge Bills fan! Go Bills! I can say it now, I love the Bills!”

msw2112
I used to dislike Gronk because he played for the Pats and because he came across as the ultimate meathead. Since then, he's grown up and matured, and he has sort of embraced the fact that he's a meathead and taken a self-deprecating humorous approach towards it. He's become a likeable figure and that's why he's all over TV and other forms of media. He also did a personal favor for a friend of mine who lives near Williamsville North, so he did a solid for a guy from his old neighborhood. So, I actually like the guy now. And there's no disputing that he was born and raised in the Buffalo area and that he's one of the best TE's to ever play the game. The hit on White was a cheap shot, but those things happen in the heat of the moment in sports, he apologized about it and it's over. I think he should have gotten a longer suspension from the NFL, but that's not his fault. He's not a guy that made a career of cheap shots. I think that those kind of players - and there are several in the NFL and NHL today - should be banned from the sport after multiple incidents. Gronk is not one of those guys.
