Sweats Posted November 12 Posted November 12 So, they say what a person drives says a lot about that person and i got a lot of questions about all you sons a *****es. I drive a 2014 Dodge Ram, 5.8L, 8 speed Hemi.......she's all beat to hell and rust holding it all together. She's not much to look at anymore and seems to fall apart every time i drive it, but i bought it new off the lot 10 years ago and i just can't seem to part with the old girl. This was the first vehicle that i bought that i actually wanted.......usually i would only buy what i could afford. What are you driving and do you like what you're driving?.......and are you driving what you always wanted or just what you can afford? Quote
Your Brown Eye Posted November 12 Posted November 12 2024 Toyota Rav4. I like it a lot, as does the family. Before this, I was driving a Chevy POS and it just felt too small and unsafe with a 2-year-old in a car seat with bigger vehicles and dumber drivers on the road. I feel a lot safer getting into a possible accident in this vehicle than my previous one. Quote
May Day 10 Posted November 12 Posted November 12 2022 Outback. Its great (had a '12 before that). Nice room, comfortable ride/drive, affordable, decent on gas, good infotainment setup. 1 Quote
Augie Posted November 12 Posted November 12 I drive a 2014 Toyota Avalon. The wife and I both had over 100k miles on our cars and we didn’t want to have to replace both at once, so the wife tried to get me to get new car. I don’t WANT a new car! My car is used to get me around town and take my two Golden Retrievers to the park every day that weather allows. There is enough fur in my car to make several puppies. When I roll the window down it’s like being in a rolling snow globe. To vacuum the car is like shoveling in a blizzard, pointless. The wife got a new car we can drive people around in, and I kept my old faithful Toyota so I don’t have to worry about getting a ding here or there. 1 1 Quote

boater Posted November 12 Posted November 12 You have different vehicles for different stages in life. I've had economy cars, muscle cars, old man sedans, family minivans, a Grand Wagoneer, a nice F-150, a nifty FJ Cruiser... even one of those Saturn's with the plastic body panels. Today as an almost-senior bachelor I have a compact SUV: Mazda CX-5. AWD was a must-have. It also has a mature and proven engine, Traditional transmission (not that CVT sh--), no turbo, and was built in Japan. You should have seen the Toyota Corolla I drove in Guam. It was in sh-- condition but just would not die. 22 minutes ago, Augie said: I drive a 2014 Toyota Avalon. ... Nice ride. They don't make them anymore. They last forever--you'll be passing that on as part of your estate. 1 Quote

Just Jack Posted November 12 Posted November 12 2015 Toyota Rav4 that I leased then purchased. My next vehicle will be either a Toyota Tacoma, 4 door with a 6 foot bed, or a 4 Runner. Maybe in the next few years. The Rav is still going and looks decent for being almost 10 years old. Quote
ExiledInIllinois Posted November 12 Posted November 12 2006 Jeep TJ, one owner: Me 2018 BMW 320ix (the cheap one, but it gets close to 35 mpg on the highway and I can get to BFLo 525 miles away on one very tippy, toppy filled 15 gallons of fuel if I don't drive like a BMW prick lol) 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD OffRoad The best one. The Jeep by far. Like me, last of the dinosaurs with modern ignition, fuel injection, and crank windows... Just don't lock yourself in it or you'll be using the key through the driver's window to unlock it from outside or if it's flipped, kick the front window out or rip the top off. 😆 Always have a plan. 1 hour ago, Draconator said: @Sweatsare you a Russian spy asking personal questions like cars and bed pee? 😆... Old Toyotas do tend to engine oil sludge... But then again, Mr.Toyota will just blame it on driver error like the floor mats.😆🤣 Ever notice the floor mat tack down systems nowadays and the better throttle by wire system designs? Me thinks it was NOT solely driver error.😉 Edited November 12 by ExiledInIllinois Quote

This was the first vehicle that i bought that i actually wanted.......usually i would only buy what i could afford. What are you driving and do you like what you're driving?.......and are you driving what you always wanted or just what you can afford? This is a reason I don't miss the rust belt for vehicles. I have a 2008 Saturn Vue that I bought about 5 years ago. I'm an A to B vehicle owner anyway, so it just needs to be relatively reliable. I don't drive as much so its mostly around town. I got it for several thousand below Blue Book, and I think its because it has a 5 speed manual. I figure, with an older vehicle, its far cheaper to replace a clutch than an auto tranny, in which case, if an auto goes, you might just chuck the vehicle. I haven't had many problems so far. A brake caliper had to be replaced, the battery last year and then some regular maintenance. I did those things myself. ANOTHER huge reason about non rust belt cars. As old as it is when I have had to do some fixing, no rusty bolts, no rusty connections, no rusty frames, no rusty anything. Except for a spot of peeling paint on the driver side door, it shines up like new. I've had 2 vehicles in the past that I pushed past 200k, one of them actually went past 300k. Its really a fake compact SUV. FWD and a 4 banger motor. The only real problem with it is the transmission is geared really high. On the highway, it runs a little over 3k on the tach at 70. I hate that. Wayyy too high and wayyy to bad on gas. But in town, where I do most of my driving, it gets around 30 mpg. People here in the midwest don't think as much about buying an older vehicle. Motor, tranny and AC are more of the bigger risks than it falling apart due to rust. Quote
US Egg Posted November 12 Posted November 12 My wife just got a new Santa Fe, the dashboard/control panel/console is overwhelming. Feel like I’m sitting in the cockpit of the SpaceX Falcon. So I guess that is one “hate” vote. Quote

Sweats Posted November 12 Author Posted November 12 My wife has a 2014 Toyota Venza and she absolutely loves it. She bought it new 10 years ago and we haven't had to put a dime into it. I'm fairly certain it will be the "forever car" cause i can see this thing running till the end of eternity. My next truck will be a Toyota Tundra. Quote

We've only really used it as the family car for trips and such and she has really only uses it for errands, groceries, to and from the vet, etc. She actually wanted a Rav 4, but kind of fell in love with the roominess of the Venza and the fact that it's the big 6 cylinder and is a beast with the AWD in the snow. bills_fan Posted November 12 Posted November 12 (edited) As a kid, my dream car was always a Jeep Wrangler. Had posters on my wall of it. I got a nice bonus at work in 2005 and was able to buy one brand new. 4.0 L, V6, manual transmission. It is still what I drive everyday. Its been off-road in the mountains, snow, beach...doesn't matter. I keep it looking mint with a weekly car wash/wax. Its really my first baby and I'll never sell it. https://ibb.co/xJR5s12 Edited November 12 by bills_fan 2 Quote

Only 75,000 miles in 10 years. Anything will run going 7,500/ year. 😆 That's 600 miles a month. The car sits more than it runs. Edited November 12 by ExiledInIllinois Quote
