He had a cap hit of $4.26M with Seattle, I'm not sure how much a team would owe to claim him but I think he will probably pass through waivers even if only half of that is passed on. If he passes through waivers this is an obvious move and we can just leave Spector on IR all year for all I care.

Agree, Dodson healthy is a better all around LB than Spector and he knows the system.  He'd pair up nicely with Bernard/Williams until Milano returns.

And yet the Bills let him go.

"Let him go" implies that they cut him. We didn't get rid of him. If he were still under contract or wanted between 1 and 2 mil, he'd have probably still been here.

He signed with the Seahawks because they offered him a 4.26m deal. We weren't about to take a 4.26m cap hit for a guy who's ceiling was LB3.

0 should go to Sanders for other reasons.

Who?  Did McDermott lure Deion from Colorado to give it one last run in the NFL?

@Mike in Horseheads thinks you were being snarky (and he likes that).

al

I figured he'd get the reference.  The alternative interpretation just has me being a dick which I'm fine with.

PFF grades are dumb. They openly admit they use factors that aren't related to what happened on the field.

Not good in coverage as they pulled him off the field in obvious passing situations.  They also schemed around him to minimize his weaknesses.  Explains the high PFF grade.  Good downhill run thumper though.

He's a guy who would be nice to have against run heavy teams because he can take a licking. He's a bigger guy and plays bigger than anyone except Spector and Milano. He doesn't shed blocks as well as the latter but penetrates the blocking lanes better than Spector.

From Buffalo Rumblings:

"With Dodson now entering the waiver-wire protocol, any team can claim him, based on an assigned order. That includes his former employer in the Bills. For the first three weeks of this this season, the order was based on the 2024 NFL Draft and each team’s 2023 records. At this point in the season, the waiver-wire priority reflects only the 2024 records, which puts the Bills at 30th in the claim process. It’s unlikely that Buffalo is the only team interested in Dodson, with other notable parties such as the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers also decent candidates."

i will keep checking to see if he slides to us - but being this good makes these waiver signing more difficult.

Oddly enough because of this the Bills get a 5th round comp pick, and possibly *could* still sign the player they were compensated for losing

my main worry is the giants. Obviously schoen loves and snatches up all these former Bills.

From Field Gulls (SEA community)
"Josh Jobe has turned his practice squad elevations into a spot on the active roster.
Jobe was signed to the 53-man roster on Monday, occupying the vacant spot left by the surprise decision to waive starting linebacker Tyrel Dodson. With no practice squad elevations left, Jobe needed to be signed to the active roster in order to play for Seattle again this season."

He didn't seem to do so well with the SEA
But BUF fans knew Dodson was a quality backup, not a starter class, though.

I really think he will clear waivers. He’s got way more value to us than anyone else. I don’t think another team will even care. He was just cut from a defense that sucks

He’s probably on par with Dorian, just with a much lower ceiling. He can become our new Shaq Lawson.

I’m feeling more  like you can put him on the field and play the run against the Ravens. You can use 3 LBs instead of staying in nickel no matter what. In a perfect world Milano comes back and then you can run 3 good LBs out there but I like Dodson

But then you are taking your best defender off the field. Just not sure that's ever good strategy.

Against 12, 13, 22 and 6OL sets, our front seven w/ Taron lining up as SAM, our front seven is giving up one to two players worth of weight.

We should have a three LB and 5dline package against heavy sets, moving Taron to Damar's position.
