Reading the seahawks forums.. they don't have any more info, but seem to think it's play related despite being surprised they'd just cut him. They feel like he was problems against the run and getting taken out of position too easily.

I remember before our game there were quite a few on here pumping Dodson and how he was playing so well for the hawks.

problems against the run and out of position often? Will fit in just right next to Dorian!

I see them bringing him back to the PS. Could even see Morrow being a causality of they decided to put him on the main roster.

He's started all 9 games for Seattle this year.  Not sure why he's being released.... but he's had some really strong games here

Upgrade from Spector and Morrow IMO

Maybe we swap him out for Morrow based on the comp pick thing mentioned upthread.

This could be a situation where they can not find a fit in the new defense (that they signed him to somehow) and are just cutting him so they do not have to pay his incentives going forward.  He has some he is about to hit and they probably do not want to pay that.  Very odd.

https://www.seattletimes.com/sports/seahawks/seahawks-release-starter-complete-shake-up-of-inside-linebacking-corps/

Dodson was due to make $2.25 million in base salary this year, and the Seahawks will get out of the rest of that as his salary if he is claimed off waivers was not guaranteed. Dodson was also due $30,000 each game in per-game roster bonuses.

Dodson was also released within reach of some incentives, including $300,000 if he recorded at least three sacks this season. He had two. He also had up to $500,000 in incentives for overall playing time, earning the whole amount if he played at least 65% of the team’s snaps in 2024.

The only guaranteed money in Dodson’s deal was a $1 million signing bonus.

this is also interesting...whether its regression or a bad fit I don't know.

Dodson, who had played 604 snaps, the most on defense, had a 65.8 grade from Pro Football Focus, down from the 90.2 he had last year with the Bills when he finished with the highest grade of any linebacker in the NFL. He had a 52.0 run defense grade, down from 82.6 with the Bills.

Dodson, 26, will now be eligible for any team to claim off of waivers.

71 tackles, 2 sacks and 1 FF this season so far

4 years in our system

Is he able to choose where he signs?  You'd think we'll have a lot of interest.  He's immediately a gameday active as LB3

For that to happen, he has to clear waivers from what I am reading.

I'd think from his perspective, the Bills would be the ideal fit at this juncture.  He's not a plug and play football player.  Knowing the defense instinctively makes him a better football player because there's no hesitation or thinking. He can finish 2024 strong and hit FA with a good year of play.

It's going to be very difficult for him to jump to an unfamiliar team this week and be impactful.

When I saw the thread title I just asked myself “why would they cut their most productive linebacker?”

He’s not their most productive linebacker but their most productive defensive player next to their FS Julian Love.

I absolutely agree with you. Something has to be coming that they are privy to. Doesn’t make sense otherwise.

Either that or they are in a "heads have to roll if we're going to revitalize our season" mode. At 4-5 they are not out of it, but things are slipping away and if they want to save their season maybe they think they need to take drastic action. The weird thing is that he led the team in tackles vs the Rams (their most recent game). Tackles are an overrated stat, but still.
