Could be something more than performance on field??? He was a starter for them … half way through their bye week …why wait …

He was replaced as their starting MLB 2 games ago by Ernest Jones, who the Titans traded to the Seahawks for Jerome Baker and a 4th round pick.

He played Will the last 2 games and either they evaluated during bye week and decided he wasn't good enough at Will, OR, he wasn't happy about being moved from the MLB spot.

This could be a situation where they can not find a fit in the new defense (that they signed him to somehow) and are just cutting him so they do not have to pay his incentives going forward.  He has some he is about to hit and they probably do not want to pay that.  Very odd.

https://www.seattletimes.com/sports/seahawks/seahawks-release-starter-complete-shake-up-of-inside-linebacking-corps/

Dodson was due to make $2.25 million in base salary this year, and the Seahawks will get out of the rest of that as his salary if he is claimed off waivers was not guaranteed. Dodson was also due $30,000 each game in per-game roster bonuses.

Dodson was also released within reach of some incentives, including $300,000 if he recorded at least three sacks this season. He had two. He also had up to $500,000 in incentives for overall playing time, earning the whole amount if he played at least 65% of the team’s snaps in 2024.

The only guaranteed money in Dodson’s deal was a $1 million signing bonus.

this is also interesting...whether its regression or a bad fit I don't know.

Dodson, who had played 604 snaps, the most on defense, had a 65.8 grade from Pro Football Focus, down from the 90.2 he had last year with the Bills when he finished with the highest grade of any linebacker in the NFL. He had a 52.0 run defense grade, down from 82.6 with the Bills.

Dodson, 26, will now be eligible for any team to claim off of waivers.

Cutting a guy right before he makes his incentives, that's really not a great look for the Seahawks.

First Phillips and Jefferson become available, and now Dodson. Clearly the NFL is conspiring to have the Bills win the Super Bowl.

The rest of the plan is to have the Bills lose to the Chiefs next week, setting the stage for the Bills to beat the Texans, Ravens and Chiefs in the playoffs, and then beating the Panthers in the Super Bowl (NFL is still working on that last part).

Only at the vet minimum as a backup.  We have Milano sometime after the bye.  Not a penny more.

They could have a rematch date with Baltimore in the future, Dodson back in the fold goes a long way towards tightening up the run defense.

He's replacement level. So if that's what they need I get it.

Dude played at a high level last year but we're stacked w Milano coming back and rather develop Dorian vs Dodson but that's a strange move. a Zone defense could kill it with Dodson

Yeah unless there are  unseen issues, he shoudl be signed after clearing waivers.  But he'll need to want to come back.  I'm pretty sure Dodson would be more effective than at least one of our current LBs.

I thought this quote from the linked article was interesting.

Does Dodson fit the Bills D better than the Hawk D?

Do the Bills coaches do a better job of coaching guys and setting them up for success?

HasDodson had personal, injury, motivational, or some other problems in Seattle?

Has he signed yet

He's gotta go through waivers first. Anyone released after the Trade Deadline is subject to waivers regardless of their accrued time in the league. That's why Ngakoue was a Waiver Claim and not a FA.

The good news there is I don't know that anyone is going to take on his contract with the Seahawks, so there's a good chance he clears. Once that happens, we should be able to sign him.

You don't see teams randomly cutting starters halfway through the season... very odd.

Makes a ton of sense to bring him in if he clears waivers.

Maybe he requested it. Like Mike Edwards.

Didn't he get in a sideline fight a game or so ago?

He was on the other end of the puca nacua punch

Did I read this right?😱

PFF grades are dumb. They openly admit they use factors that aren't related to what happened on the field.
