Buffalo has been considered a legitimate Super Bowl contender for years now. While never having really beat a lot of quality teams (with the exception of KC regular season). Who I actually think they match up well against. Hell, a lot of people here are certain KC is our biggest hurdle. How do you know that? We have played them close so many times. Where teams that have a physical presence like the Colts used to, Bengals, or Ravens just crush us. It’s not close. Not like the KC games typically are.

We have beaten Lamar twice most recently last year if I’m not mistaken.  Maybe two years ago.

It’s not our fault we are better than most everybody and the only team that often beats us is….us.

And everyone deals with injuries.  Especially us - since 2022.

Those wins were when Greg Roman was his OC, one was in a wind tunnel and another was when they didn't qualify for the playoffs. The game the Bengals smoked us they had nearly the entire offensive line out. This concept they we deal with injuries at some unfair or inordinate rate is a narrative based on no facts. We are better than teams without a tier 1 QB. That is about 20-24 teams. We haven't played the other ones. Factor in the playoffs, when we do, the results have been pretty bad.

I don’t think that was ever the case.  More of a retooling.

100000%. For some reason people thought getting rid of old, aging players meant we were going to 'rebuild.' I think this was more of a fan(and TBD) thing than a Bills thing.

My initial thought was "Ok, new pieces, we will probably struggle a little bit for 6 weeks and then as continuity happens we'll start to roll." Thankfully, I was wrong on that. I never thought rebuild but more so, "growing pains" early this year.

Well, I think the "rebuild" theory really came into being with the Diggs move.  The WRs were dismantled along with a huge cap hit and the many other changes.

To me, the FO signaled it was a "retool" when they only took one WR in the draft.  It meant they were not going with total inexperience in the WR room.

KC, 9ers and Rams are all going to be super tough. The Texans was a winnable game. Ravens on the other hand....yikes.

Cardinals are no.1 in the NFC west and we beat them

Rams looked like hot hot garbage against Miami.   I think they are a tad overrated.  The one exception is that Verse kid.  He was good.

… and the reason the Bills beat Kansas City’s “top tier QB” was because he didn’t have Xavier Worthy the past 3 seasons

Were the bills not supposed to play the games they won?  Why not when the bills win their games the fans of the team find these foolish reason to downplay everything?

Would you like them to petition the league to not play the jets and pats in December and ask to play the ravens and chiefs again so that they can get wins that boost their power rankings or something?

the history of the league is filled with good teams beating up bad teams all season.

its not about who or how, its about how many and right now its 8.  Hopefully they can get it to 13 and be the number 1 seed

I think the point is more it might be a mirage and they have some tough teams on the schedule coming up, and let's wait to see how they finish the regular season before we start puffing our chests.

The bills could realistically go on a 4 game losing streak or lose 3 of the next 4.

We also had different coordinators at that time...

Beating the Lamar in the playoffs to go to the AFC champ doesnt count as beating a good team?

This is some weird circular argument: We beat Lamar, they dont make playoffs (partly because of the loss to us), not making the playoffs means they arent a "good team", therefore Buffalo hasnt beat a good team...

Either Lamar is a tier 1 QB or he isnt.

Not really, those were good wins. But if those are the wins we are using to call out our ability to beat premier teams when they're literally the only wins we have vs premier teams the last 3 years and we just turned around and lost in the playoffs, well, you can do that, I'm not going to.

Roman should be out of the league and he would be if it wasn't for Harbaugh. We beat that "top tier" QB in a wind tunnel at home with a bad offensive system. If you think none of those factors play a roll that's up to you. We sort of saw what happened when they didn't play a role a few weeks ago.

Yeah, i mean when you have JA, rebuilding doesn't exist. Chiefs lost 4 starters on offense (at skill position) and are undefeated. An offense goes as it's OL and QB go. Luckily we have 17

Allen, McDermott and the crew just keep on rolling. Still a long way to go but McDermott should be in the running for Coach of the year. With the all injuries we’ve had to overcome, and all the new guys we had to play, we haven’t missed a beat. 8-2?? Best start since 1993? Just an incredible job by McDermott and his staff. Still have a long way to go but I’ve been very impressed.

Big Kudos to Joe Brady as well. We finally have the balanced attack that I think most Bills fans have been calling for for years!! On to Kansas City

Few Bills fans will admit this but McDermott has done a damn good job this season

You are %100 correct.

the only team that can beat the Bills, is the Bills.

and they come closer and closer to doing so every  week.

when the playoffs come, and games get much tougher, the Bills will lose.

sorry to say it, but it is what it is.

It's a bit striking how few really strong wins this team has the last 3 years or even how many game against strong teams we have had. We have played 6 regular season games in three years vs teams that eventually made the divisional round. Half of those games are against KC. While I don't penalize this team for not playing more of these games as clearly they can't control that, I do hang the "just how good are we" perspective in full force (especially this year) given our penchant for early playoff exists. It is entirely possible in my view that with Allen accompanied by a very smart roster/disciplined coach that we have the juice to do what we have done to the .500 club, the max wild card pretender club, but just not measure up to anything further. The sheer amount of success would seem to make that unlikely to be the case but the sheer amount of failures in big games really makes you wonder. This years shellacking by Baltimore and beating at Houston didn't help to eliminate those concerns. I feel like this team is Cowboys good, but not actually good. We will certainly learn more the next few weeks.

2021- 1-2 against teams that eventually made the divisional round  (win vs KC)

2022- 1-0 against teams that eventually made the divisional round  (win vs KC)

2023- 2-0 against teams that eventually made the divisional round  (win vs KC and TB)

Firstly thanks for doing all of this work.

In the last 3 years we're 4-2 against teams that made the divisional round?

My glass is half full.

KC is half those games. I don't mean to always be negative, it's just impossible to envision this team running off 3-4 straight against upper tier teams. Beating KC seems mild in comparison to accomplishing that.

IMO the Bills have as good a chance as any team to win the Super Bowl.

As always injuries and luck will come into play.

Is there a comparison available for the other contenders (SF, Niners, Philly etc?)

I would imagine most playoff teams can hope for .500 against other playoff teams.
