I think the Cowboys GM is in "name only" as a puppet regime under JJ.

I don't think they have a puppet for the GM. I believe Jones is the GM.

Jerry Jones is the Owner, President and General Manager of the Dallas Cowboys.

The funny things is that I agree that it would be best for the Cowboys if JJ did fire himself. But he’s a billionaire playing fantasy football for real. He’s not giving that up until he has to for health reasons. I’m not sure if I would either.

I would do the same thing Jerry is doing.

NFL is Madden for billionaires. You're going to make money, and to be honest Dallas has a ton of talent. That's not the problem.

The problem is that Dak unfortunately suffers major injuries often, and he is only decent as a QB, not top tier. McCarthy is also a so-so HC. So they win a lot of games every season but then hit the wall against the best teams.

He should bring in Belichick and let Bill take a crack or two at getting that roster over the top. He and Jerry are in the same boat: build for the short term and win now.

Really, if you owned an NFL team like the Cowboys, you would run it like jerry jones runs his team?

Not get players in the off season to address obvious, glaring needs revealed last year, like those to improve the running game and stop the run, even though it clearly doomed your team last year?

Bring in washed up coaches, because you know well that the up and coming coaches would want some power in personell and decisions, power you would not consider giving them?

And then, you would use the media to constantly put undue pressure on your already dysfunctional team and coaching staff?

I would not.

If I owned an NFL team I would want to win it all, every year, and do whatever I could to make that happen.  Even it if meant making a bit less money, as I would still be making a king's ransom consistently. You, instead, would not really care if you won, and would instead do what Jerry does and put up huge, insurmountable obstacles in front of your team.

Glad you are not running the Bills!

But the Jets and Dolphins will likely be looking for a new GM for next season. Please apply!! I, and likely most others on this board, will write you glowing letters of recommendation.

What a mess Jerry's team is.  Makes me appreciate what we have in Buffalo even more.

Today against the Eagles they looked unprepared, undisciplined, and unmotivated.

They have the worst rushing offense in the NFL.  And the 3rd worst rushing defense.

They have given up 44, 29, 47, and 34  points in their four home games this year, losing them all in blowouts.  Right there in Jerry's giant soulless castle, a building that effectively symbolizes his leadership.

Even though Jones likely realizes the best way to get out of this mess is to have a great draft this year, so the more they lose the better, I don't think he can handle the humiliation any more and sets McCarthy loose on Monday. I assume when CBS cut to the king's throne room  late in the game, and his was empty, he was already setting this up, a done deal.

What do you think?

Will Jones also replace the GM? He must realize that the guy is obviously not cutting it, and at 82  he would love to win one more Super Bowl.  I bet he would give up most of his wealth, and all of his fame, to win one more. Will he look himself in the mirror and do what he needs to do to have that opportunity again?

He won’t fire him in-season because there’s really no point.  Dak is done for the year and the team is just about out of the playoffs barring a miracle.  Plus Jerry is unusually loyal to his head coaches compared to other high profile NFL owners.  You’d expect him to be more cutthroat but he gave Wade Phillips and Jason Garrett second and third chances when other owners might not.

I guess they could get a start on the head coaching search but it’s probably not going to begin for most teams before Week 18 anyway.

But to get an idea of the state of the Cowboys go listen to Jerry talk about the glare in Texas Stadium.  The reporters were grilling him about the design flaw and he sat there rattling off nonsense about the sun.  He seems to proud to try to admit he made a mistake and I feel it’s like that with the football product too

Since it opened the reports of the bad views from many of the far away seats means people often spend the game watching the huge monitors rather than trying to figure out what is happening on the field. And because the fans sit so far from the field, because of how it is designed, there is usually not much of a home field advantage there. Yes, they have often  beat up on the bad teams there, but rarely come through now when the good teams come to jerry’s dysfunctional stadium.

Instead, people have said it caters to the elite, to the corporate--and to jones’ ego.

I have said  the same kind of thing on here, that it a soulless place, one devoid of character or football atmosphere—so, the house that jerry built is often like his teams.

To me it reflects the kind of teams and team atmosphere he has increasingly built over the years.  And that is truer today than ever.

Every Cowboys game has sold out as AT&T, they're in the top 10 for home winning percentage over the last 10 years.

Reflect away.

They have won only 4 playoff games in the last 25 years. And they have not even sniffed a championship, as they came by their good regular season record by beating the patsies  in their weak division, schedule.

The fact that the stadium sells out impresses no one, well almost no one.  If you cannot almost ever beat a good team at home and win a big game, and this year with their four consecutive home losses by at least 2O points, an NFL record, having a sell out crowd in your cavernous stadium just makes it all the more embarrassing, pathetic.

Jones is confused.  He thinks creating a successful NFL team is like creating any other successful business, but it is not.

I did not hear ol' jerry answer those questions about the glare in his dysfunctional stadium yet!  Thanks--I will now find it,  and likely get some more good laughs on his behalf, it seems. But probably the least of his many worries right now.

The funny thing is I do sort of feel some empathy for the guy. In the end he seems like he really wants to win and his football team seems to be the center of his life, has been so for years.  But his ego, and the lack of objectivity that accompanies that, will almost assuredly never let him reach his goal.

He would likely gain significant respect by ceding control of his team by hiring a first rate GM this off season, who in turn hires a first rate coach, as Jerry takes many steps back, including stopping his media presence almost completely.

But because of his personality, see the bold above, that seems unlikely to happen.  Too bad, as he won't get won't what he most wants in life because of that.

We can all learn from that, I think.

I am sorry, I did not mean to hurt your feelings. I did not know that I don't know crap.  I know it now.

I have changed my tune: jerry's team, always has been, and are currently mega times 10 super duper extremely and monumentally successful+++.

Unfortunately, this sounds familiar.

For all of our regular season championships we haven't made it any further than Dallas has. This place is like Ray Charles living in a glass house. At least the music sounds good.

What he wants most in life is attention not respect whether it is good or bad so he will not give it up until medically he has to or league forces it.  He reminds me of Daniel $nyder. Winning gives more attention since more playoff games and more media appearances but stepping back would mean far less attention and he would fade away like a shade.

Just ridiculous, laughable, and monumentally ignorant, in the worse sense of the word--ignoring the facts, and what we see with our own eyes

To compare jerry's dysfunctional mess of a team, with every man for himself, and winning secondary to other things, to the great organization and team, team culture, of the Bills is supremely illogical, stupid.  And I cannot imagine more than a tiny percentage of posters agreeing with such nonsense--and zero Bills' fans.

The Bills have, clearly, been a championship contender consistently--and are so again this year, clearly.  The Cowboys have never been serious contenders in that same time, pretenders only, and obviously so to  anyone looking at the facts.

And I am assuming, all that agree with that BS are merely haters, who no matter what is done by the Bills hate their almost every move.

Nonsensical.

I was comparing the end result. Clearly we have a much better culture, a better program, a better everything. But for all that better it's got us what again? Last three seasons, great regular seasons and bounced early in the playoffs. Cowboys last three seasons, great regular seasons and bounced early in the playoffs. The fact that you separate it so dramatically is what is funny. Do I expect others here to do the same? Sure. That’s why I said what I did. The main thing that separates them is this year. At least from a level that doesn’t include your emotions.
