I am good with it. He can stretch the field. He’s a high 4.3 - low 4.4 guy. I still think field stretching is necessary moving forward. The Bills have been creative but have an ungodly amount of throws within 5 yards of the LOS. Marcel Louis-Jacques tweeted last week that 32 of 39 throws were 5 air yards or less!! It worked. They’ve been good at stretching the field horizontally but still need to stretch it vertically. Virgil is a part-time player but can add an element.

You quote M L-J on that that large number of passes within 5 yards of the LOS like it's a bad thing?

The Bills are 2nd in the league for Completed Air Yards so far this season - right behind the Ravens and ahead of the Lions, Buccaneers, and Chiefs.

The fact that 4 of those 5 teams are 4 of the 5 teams with 7 or more wins at this point in the season, suggests that it's very good company.

Advanced stats are only available on sources I can access from 2018 on, but it's important to note that Tom Brady lived on YAC and will go to the HOF on YAC.  Of course, then the occasional deep bomb which drew a DPI and got them deep into their opponents territory was always a thing, but the ball went down the field on a diet of short passes over the middle to Welker and Edelman who made guys miss and took an extra 4-5 yds to bring down, or Gronkowski who knocked guys over for an extra 4-5 yds.  So those 3-4 yd passes consistently put them in 2nd and 2, 2nd and 3 and were gone before the pressure got there.

Mahomes has been able to do a similar thing the previous 3 seasons, and this season to date.  58% of his yards, passes within 5 yards of the LOS followed by 6 yds RAC.

This represents a shift in Allen's game, since for a winning QB he's been scant on YAC.  Between 2019-2023 only 41% of his passing yards YAC.  But IMO, it's a positive shift, since it means he's "taking what's given" and not trying to force the ball in to a double- or triple-covered receiver.

Samuel should NEVER have been acquired! What an overplayed stiff he’s been!

Players are drafted and acquired based on what they've been able to produce historically.

What's that they say about the stock market, "past earnings no guarantee of future performance" or something like that?

Based on past performance, Samuel was a solid bet with an injury-ridden downside.
It looks as though we caught the downside.  It happens (see Miller, Von)

Long time follower, not even sure if I’ve posted on the forum but keep up with the threads. Take it for what it’s worth, but my barber is the old Commanders’ barber and is friends with Samuel. From what I’ve heard, Josh specifically asked for Samuel in the off season. Which would obviously make his lack of usage more perplexing. Like I said, take it for what it’s worth, I don’t claim to know Curtis Samuel.

I don't know, you tell me.  Why does this feel like 2022 to you, all over again?

Because deja vu

I don't care if he catches it.  Just send a message on play #1 that you have to defend the whole field.

It only works if he catches one of those deep ins/outs/ crossers.

But Bills need deep speed as a threat. Hollins will be getting some respect after last week, so we shall see.

The lack of Curtis Samuel is a shame.

Cooper is an honest injury so i can forgive that.

Need Coleman back in two weeks please

and where is Kincaid again ? He should be catching balls and less blocking excepting chipping the edge

Have him just run deep on the first play, and have Allen toss him a bomb

Agree. I’ve been waiting for that play all year.

What happened to his former Bronco teammate KJ Hamler?

I mean, he has been activated (alongside Tyrell Shavers) for the first time for tomorrow's game. But considering we activated Jalen Virgil multiple times and just promoted him and have activated Tyrell Shavers previously this season - it's pretty clear that Hamler was considered low man on the totem pole in our WR room.

Who ran that? Everything I can find says 4.40

That’s what it says in the link from Hogs Heaven posted by Pete above. I guess I shouldn’t immediately trust Hogs Heaven…

Virgil being able to contribute would be a major and much-needed win for Beane’s pro personnel dept.  They have had a brutal run of free agent WR scouting.

I'm a big Beane supporter but this is true.

It's a trap.  80% running plays this week is the game plan. 🤔😁

Yeah, I think we’ll certainly see a lot of 11 personnel with a run heavy scheme.  Big Knox/Kincaid week, IMO.  Probably see Shakir moved all over the formation too.

Motion is setting up teams.  Virgil has speed, and has looked good, when he plays

But is he faster than our Virgil?

Kincaid may be out so I am hoping Cooper and Coleman are good to go. From all the chatter I read, Coleman may not be ready either. It's going to be a tough game for us
