Micah

I know it's a popular theme in Buffalo media. "Micah will be back," as if he's going to vault the safety play to another level.

If the coaches believe that's the case, wouldn't they have asked Micah already? Maybe Micah is holding out for more money😗

The Micah we saw last year, especially down the stretch, was not good. I may even add not at the Hamlin level today (Hamlin actually improved during the season in my eye). It was pretty obvious last year Poyer out-played Micah, even though neither was very impactful.

The only thing people are holding onto is that Micah knows the McDermott system and can be trusted as the "last-line of defense" dutifully. I remember seeing his video comparing his role on the football field to the center fielder in baseball, "no balls over my head". I saw a recent Wednesday interview by Rapp and he's now saying exactly the same thing. Micah, at his peak, is a better player than Rapp in pass defense and can run the route for the opposing WRs. But that's not the same player we saw last year and I doubt he has found the Fountain of youth this year.

With Logue cut (will he go to the PS) and Coleman's injury, there could be two roster spots open for players.  S and WR have to be on the list.

Logue may go back  to Atlanta's practice squad.  Time will tell.

I don't know that he starts over anyone right away, but with edwards gone there's a spot.  Cine is the only safety on the PS and he's learning linebacker from what i understood.  I'm not sure what any of that means for Ingram, who i guess is also potentially depth there.

You kinda-sorta answered your own question via the bolded.  The case for Hyde coming back *and it being a good thing* goes something like this:  Hyde is old, but (hopefully) not fully done physically.  Theoretically, with a few extra months of rest, he can produce at a high level for just the stretch run and playoffs.  And his football IQ, ability to read an offense pre-snap and get everyone lined up right, and ability to read & react post-snap are all super high, and only the last one is impacted by slowing down physically.

If Hyde wants to come back, I'm all for it and will hope for the best.  If he comes back and it turns out he should've just retired, I won't be shocked, but I think it's worth a go IF Hyde feels like he's still got it.

IMO if Bills are thinking at all about bringing Hyde back in it would be good to have him on practice squad so he could be in on meetings, etc wearing a red jersey in practice with strict instructions to players to not contact him at all. I think this would help DBs get up to speed.

While Logue may go back to Atlanta I think he and his agent see that we need younger D-lineman as our guys are getting old.  Probably in his best interest to stay here assuming we offer him a PS spot.

They are going to be without Coleman and possibly Cooper. It's gotta be a WR they are making room for.

I don't know man. Ever since he came back from the neck injury, I don't remember he made one play that reminded me of the old Hyde.

I believe the improvement will come from within, especially the younger players who have more room to grow. I wish they have found ways to get Bishop more snaps in this particular case. On the Defensive side, I'm hopeful Carter, Williams continue to improve and Von somehow gets back to top form. That's more realistic than expecting someone sitting on the couch for 2/3 of the season and than jump into to save the team.

The Chiefs last year in December had a 4 games stretch that they lost to the Packers, the Bills, and the Raiders. But the young players gained loads of experience and went on to win the superbowl.

I agree (and said that in preseason), but keep in mind Hyde would need to be on board with this plan as well.

I won't pretend to have an informed take on how much Hyde does or doesn't have left in the tank.  I don't watch the all-22, I'm not a serious x's and o's guy, etc.  But I will say that a lot of Hyde's value for us over the years has been in the plays that didn't get attempted.  Joe B at The Athletic had an article a couple years ago about how it was basically impossible to complete a deep ball against our defense, and teams that year had basically stopped trying.  He attributed most of that success to Hyde.  It's kind of like an elite rim protector in basketball - you can look at blocks per game or opposing shooting % at the rim, but neither one accounts for the times when a guy could've drove to the rim but didn't (because he knew he'd get rejected).

Agree with you on the young guys, especially with us being so far ahead in the division.  There's obviously a balance - young guys improve by learning from their mistakes, but that means bad things happened while they were on the field - and I'd like to see us shift the balance a little bit towards player development, even if it costs us a game or two in the regular season.  Realistically, the road to the Super Bowl is going to go through KC, Baltimore, or both, so I'm not particularly concerned about seeding.

It could be. But from the sound of Cooper's interview yesterday, i'd expect him to play. Coleman is worse off, but they didn't put him on IR. So it's not going to be a long period of time we're without either of them. So they could just call up either Virgil, Shavers, or Hamler for this week or next without promoting them to the 53.

So they didn’t elevate Virgil, they signed him to the active roster. Interesting.

Makes sense.  Regardless of what Logue's eventual upside may be, Buffalo needs production from the defensive tackle position now, and they are more likely to get at least some production from the veterans they just signed than the kid Logue.  They can offer Logue a futures contract after the season if he's still a free agent at that point.
