Democrat Self Reflection Post Landslide....

Recommended Posts

I think Trump is horrifying but he won and it wasn't close.

The D's are always an election behind the times. Blame Garlund, blame Biden, blame Harris and her inability to distance herself from Biden. Blame everyone.

One fact that won't be blamed is they have lost the working class because of the corporate money inside their own party. They are so completely out of touch with what people have to go through just to survive and acted shocked when those same, vote for populist ideas. Didn't Biden say he was only in it for one term? Then when he crumbles, they just toss Harris in. Oh, with 107 days until the election. Lol. What did they expect?

The cruel irony is it's about to get rougher for the working class. Trump is not their friend. The D's on the other hand have only themselves to blame. They had 4 years to prepare for Trump and handled it about as poorly as possible and get humiliated at the polls in the process. D's need to root out the entrenched people in upper level positions for new blood. I don't have a lot of faith.

Dam.  What policies circa 2020 could have led to this???

Opinion

The voter shift that should alarm Democrats most

Donald Trump won more votes than he had before almost everywhere in the United States. Voters shifted right in rural areas, in suburbs and even in New York City. But it’s the urban areas that should unnerve Democrats most. These places are led by liberal mayors and city councils. They are diverse, and they are economically powerful.

Take a look at America’s 50 biggest local economies (as measured by GDP in 2022). In 2020, Trump won only one of them. In 2024, he took nine and made significant gains in nearly all of them. He flipped Miami, Phoenix (Maricopa County), Orange County, Calif. (near Los Angeles) and Nassau County, N.Y., on Long Island. It was the best showing in urban areas for a Republican since 2004. His gains reversed an urban shift toward Democrats that had seemed locked in since the Obama years.

Yet another issue for the Dems. How out of touch do you have to be lose the urban vote. It's so obvious that the  Clinton/Obama/Schultz etc power structure has to be purged. Bernie said as much this weekend and the Dem power elite basically told him to shut up. I keep hearing about what a deep bench they have, but what good is it if the leaders of the party think it's still 2013?

Yes, we need new blood. Garland totally screwed up. Took way too long. But, it’s only 2 years to change congress. When things get “rougher”, votes will change. People voted on grocery bills and rent costs. Those aren’t improving anytime soon. Much damage can be done before that. We need a new leader tho, I agree. We’ll see one rise. And we’ll make a bigger tent even if it’s done with false promises. Hell, that’s what it takes to win, sadly.

You won't leave, none of you crybabies will.

It would be difficult to improve my current place but many European Jews thought the same.  There’s a time to bail. Knowing when is difficult but not impossible. The signs will be clear.  Hopefully, I don’t see them but I very well could.

All that babbling you did about civil war…embarrassing.

Never figured 14% would join the 37% crazies. But in retrospect, nominating a black woman was unwise. Sad but true. I’m glad there’s no civil war, however.

Really. Do you believe trump has an enemies list?  Will you cheer when he gets retribution?

Cmon tenhigh, that response would never fly in a poli sci class.  You’d be ridiculed. But in an analytical way.

A search of “civil war” and you, yields 130 hits on this board. That’s just effing weird and embarrassing.

What can I say, I actually do like you, but I find your alternating between bragging,  flailing attacks and hand wringing to be hysterical.  Have a big bowl of Cataplana ready for when I come to visit!

Goodnight folks!
