Thanks, @Niagara Bill. Based on your bio, I see you live in Niagara Falls, on the Canadian side? Is that correct? You say stats produced by self-serving bureaucrats are not to be believed? But, I'm wondering where are you getting your information about San Fran, LA, Chicago, and other cities that you do not reside in? Are the news sources where you are seeing this "crime wave" not susceptible to being self-serving or misleading to create a desired result among voters? I just think it raises a question: why are so many people experts on crime and gang behavior in places that they do not live? Because, man, In the blue cities that I've lived in, the portrayal just isn't lining up with the lived experience.

Now, I will concede on mass shootings. But, I do know that we have a really strong thoughts and prayers plan in place, so I think those really won't be a problem going forward.

Spend a few days in Manhattan, walk thru Times Square, try taking transit, stroll a few blocks from River Cafe, cross your country and take a nostalgic visit to Haight Ashbury, walk King Street, or Queen Street in downtown Toronto, review the crime stats in Portland and Vancouver. Count the needle giveaways sites, the drug sales on those corners, the violent car thefts gangs in major cities...if you don't see that it is hard to imagine how wonderful that life must be for you.

Police forces have been forced to become army units, cannot have a traffic stop without vests and fully armed, the growth of agencies and programs for mental health, which is just code for drug use.

Please let us know what Utopia city you live in, please.

ps. I never mentioned blue cities, just cities.

Yes because crime never happened before 2020 in red cities.

that’s all in the past. republicans control everything now. It is on them to correct it. put up or shut up. What are they going to do about gun violence. Thoughts and prayers was a solid stranger for many years, it has worked so well as a deterrent but are they going to keep that or try to do more? What really bot bothers me is school shootings, what are the republicans going to do? The usual?

everything is on you now, the ball is in your court. You asked for it you got it.

with the clown car that is about to pull into the White House let’s see what he can get done?

He already failed on his promise of ending the war in Ukraine 24 hours after he elected. Big surprise.

I know its the past but can we just speak at the first term a sec.

Gun violence?

Remember trump sent agents to chicago. a deep blue city to help with the spiking gun violence...and it worked to save lives and capture criminals.

Remember when other democratic leaders outright refused his similar offer during the violent riots. calling it "fascism". Then we got "summers of love" and young kids gunned down. We got Gov walking in solidarity with rioters up to the gates of a federal building that was being fire bombed on a nightly basis and more violence across the country. federal agents who were forced to do nothing but protect the parameter because the local police were being told to stand down.

Remember a massive ship being sent to NY being unused while covid patients were piled into the people most in danger, old peoples homes. killing the most vulnerable by directly exposing them to the virus they locked the city down for.

How bout dem screaming come one and all to our sanctuary. We will not work with federal immigration. Seems to be a bit of a issue now.

On and on.

Maybe we can start to end school shooting with the republicans repeated idea to implement armed security. Instead of liberals screaming "it will never work! More guns isnt the solution!" its actually implemented and given a chance. If it saves a single life is it worth doing or will they continue to outright refuse a logical idea that doesnt effect law abiding citizens rights.

So while your watching the "clown car" you also might want to look over at the circus under the big blue tent. Lets see if they are still dead set on destroying their citizens lives just to make sure "the orange man bad". Those decisions by democrats are made specifically for people like you who dont understand federal and state powers. You simply nod your head in agreement with them because he didnt "correct it".

Are you going to be following the proceedings from your internment camp?

And whining about the food?

Why are you calling conservatives 'crybabies' when that's all you've been doing? More liberal projection I suppose.

I want the following:

- Repeal the 1st amendment so that the government has the right to determine what can and cannot be said by citizens

- Repeal the 2nd amendment and just allow officers and the government to protect our citizens. Also - we can trust that our government will alway do the bidding of the citizens and we the people will never have to worry about a tyrannical govt (As history has shown throughout the world).

- Continue to weaponize the FBI, CIA, NSA and other agencies to pursue and imprison any and all American Citizens (and elected leaders) who dare to go against the government narrative (e.g., vaccines are bad, etc)

- Continue to import critical weapons components and pharmaceuticals from nations that would do us harm.

- Allow our elected officials to have the right to “insider” trade as that should be a perk of office.

- Begin our march towards socialism as we can clearly see the powerhouses other socialist countries have become (Go AOC!)

- Allow corporations to continue to lobby and influence government policies with disregard to Americans health or well being.

- Put in place laws to allow the government to utilize CNN, MSNBC, WSJ, and other media outlets as their propaganda machines to duly influence citizens thoughts and actions.

- Continue to allow an open border to enable a free unabated flow of drugs, criminals, and terrorists.

- Alter our public school curriculum to allow more time for drag shows, pedophilia, etc and less time dedicated to reading, writing, and arithmetic

Phew!!! Hopefully that helps you out 4th and long.

Not a comprehensive list by any means, but this would put us on the right track.

I can't speak to Toronto or Vancouver as they're not American cities. I lived in Manhattan. Worked in Manhattan. I rode the Subway every day and every night. I rode it through the Bronx to visit my Girlfriend who lived on Castle Hill. I rode it all through Queens and Brooklyn, etc. Times Square is a laughable tourist trap compared to what it was in the 1980s. We don't go to Times Square anymore — not because it's dangerous, but because it's lame as hell

You ask me to look at crime stats in Portland in Vancouver, but earlier you said stats from self-serving bureaucrats couldn't be trusted. So?

Look, I'm not saying crime doesn't exist and that cities are perfectly safe. What I'm saying is that, by and large, crime in America has decreased tremendously since the 1980s and that includes all major metros. It's actually remarkable how much crime has dropped in America. However, Trump campaigned with heavy rhetoric about this big crime wave that is spiraling out of control due to liberal policies. But as a person who has lived a majority of their life in large cities, my lived experience does not match up with the way crime has been portrayed by republican politicians. But it's a classic republican campaign tactic — stir up fears about crime in American cities (especially crime committed by immigrants) — that has been used as far back as Reagan. At least Reagan had actual crime data to back up the campaign rhetoric. And I get it, it works. I just think it's absurd.

My prediction is that crime will continue on the downward trajectory it's been on for the last 40 years, Trump will say how great of a job he did, and all Republican voters will agree that Trump made such a big miraculous dent in American crime.

PS: The Cato Institute — a libertarian think tank that has been heavily influential on the development of Republican economic policy and the push for smaller government over the last several decades — has also strongly held that immigrant crime waves are a myth: https://www.cato.org/blog/yes-youre-still-imagining-migrant-crime-spree-response-steven-malanga-migrant-crime.

TL;DR: Republicans consistently stoke fears about crime being out of control in American cities during their campaigns despite all evidence telling us that crime has continually decreased over the past 40 years. And people who, by and large, don't live in said America cities buy it up.

PPS: I lived in Austin until a month ago. My wife and I just moved to Carrboro, NC, so our kids could be closer to their cousins. We love Austin and would absolutely move back in a heartbeat if we had reliable family there.

1) simplify taxes and shrink the IRS

I very much down taxes get simplified....changes sure but they are intentionally complicated to benefit those who lobby for that whoI think are very much aligned with Trump

Here is my one issue

1.  Reduce deficits and pay down some debt.

1.)  Don't impose tariffs.  I know being a protectionist is part of Trump's appeal but more jobs will be lost than created.  Also, if you raise the price of imported goods the cost will get passed on to all Americans and hurt lower-income Americans even more.  It's a weird obsession of his and his only consistent principle since the 80's.  You know it's a bad idea when Bernie Sanders pushes for the same thing.

2.)  Pass a federal flat tax of 12% and largely reduce the IRS.  Nobody likes paying taxes (rich or poor) and it would lead to an economic boon.  Lower the corporate tax to 16%.

3.) Convince Thomas and Alto to retire while you control the presidency and the Senate.  Replace them with younger conservative judges.  Obama couldn't convince RGB to retire and it ended up biting them in the back.

Bonus:  Make Daylight Savings time permanent.  I'm sick of it getting dark so early this time of year.

Yeah this dark early stuff is a bummer!!!

Both of the first two ideas (tariffs and flat tax) are terrible for the middle and lower classes.  Absolutely awful.  Why should Terry Pegula (for example) have the same tax rate on his top earnings as you?  Apparently you're a trickle down guy.  If you trust the establishment--rich folks--to give you their money, then go for it.  I don't see it happening.

Every time they lowered taxes and corporate taxes across the board we saw an economic boom.  More jobs, higher income, more small and big business start ups, etc..   In your example, why shouldn't Terry Pegula (in your example) pay the same tax rate as you or I?  He'll still be paying a lot more in actual dollars.  A flat tax eliminates this class warfare bs that the left loves to push.

But are those tax cuts ever paid for with spending cuts?  Answer is no.  The cuts were deficit funded and you think its it is some great move because it greats a temporary boom, of course it does, duh!  The net affect is more money in the economy which produces jobs, people consume but it is good for today, what about 50 years from now, what about kids/grand kids...what are they being left with the growth of deficits and debt that tries to Quelch an insatiable urge for more money for me today.  This is not a republican or democrat problem, it is a everyone problem no one talks about.  The reality is this country needs a come to Jesus moment in regards to debt but no one talks about it.  New age economists have made up new theories based on observations but none of it is laws of physics, it is a complicated web of policy and economic conditions that don't stay static, things change.

Three Bad Ideas Died Along With Kamala's Presidential Bid

IMG_3859.thumb.jpeg.fb58c27c294246e2cf46cb38b9cb2047.jpeg

Tuesday's election of Donald Trump to his second, non-consecutive term as president has the potential to usher in major social and economic changes for the country. There is the very real possibility that the scourge of DEI may be driven from our institutions, that transgenderism will stop ruining the lives of young men and women, that women's sports will be played by women, that we can buy medicine that isn't made in China, and that American diplomacy and military might will again be respected.

One thing we can be sure of is that we've heard the last blather about three very bad ideas from the left.

National Popular Vote Interstate Compact

Totalitarianism cannot allow freedom to exist. Our founders, straight white males though they were, realized "that government is best which governs least," and that local control of local issues was preferable to an all-powerful central government. When the Democrats realized that their hold on national power was dependent upon thin strips of the Atlantic and Pacific seaboard and most states wanted nothing to do with their lunacy the set about to fix that problem.

The solution was to convince Americans that our nation was a direct democracy and there was some grave injustice involved in a president being elected while losing the popular vote. It didn't matter to them when Bill Clinton did that in 1992, but it really chapped their asses when Trump pulled it off in 2016. So they came up with the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. This, in my view unconstitutional idea (a violation of Article 1, Section 10, Clause 3 of the US Constitution), held that the electors of the states signing on to it would pledge their electoral votes to the candidate that won the popular vote.

Tuesday, Donald Trump won the popular vote. The exit polls from that election showed that the Democrat fantasy of American demography ensuring a liberal majority in the electorate was just that, a fantasy. If you think the coastal elites have any intention of pledging California's and New York's electoral votes to a future candidate like Trump, you haven't been paying attention.

Supreme Court Packing

When Democrat power grabs were stymied by a conservative majority on the Supreme Court, the progressive left resurrected the idea fronted by our first socialist president, Franklin D. Roosevelt, to add enough justices to the Supreme Court to give him the votes he needed to do what he wanted to do. It became fashionable for leftist legal pundits to agitate to add three or more seats to the Supreme Court to create a permanent progressive majority. You can get that Donald Trump's election guarantees that idea is dead.

{snip}

Ending the Filibuster

The Senate, usually, is where very bad partisan ideas go to die even though very bad bipartisan ideas slip through with monotonous regularity. Ending the filibuster and allowing highly partisan legislation to pass based on a single vote achieved Holy Grail status in the last couple of years as a determined minority could block pet progressive projects.

The new Senate majority leader who will not be named Mitch McConnell will have a three-seat majority. If that majority leader removed the filibuster, there would be no way the Democrats could slow down, much less stop, any of Trump's projects.

Agreed.  The TCJA is projected to pay for itself by 2028 based off CBO projections.  The problem of course is congressional spending is out of whack and nobody on either side of the aisle is willing to cut spending.  It's not a winning election message.  Ask Paul Ryan.
