I didn’t mock you, wasn’t trying to enrage you and didn’t consider your comments in that regard in the same category as some of the other dopey stuff you post. I do have to laugh about the “dumb old fat ass” comment. As I’ve said previously, I’m an optimist generally, work to stay positive emotionally and physically. My old dumb ass found that’s the best thing to remain healthy, keep the excess pounds off, stay engaged and live a full life. I understand you’ve had challenges that I haven’t faced, but we’ve all faced challenges, trials and tribulations in life and I’d think it incumbent on each of us to manage our way through. Quite a few years ago, not long after I started a business, I was feeling the crushing weight of what I was up against, negative and worried about how I was going to provide for my young family. I reached out to a mentor to vent and get some validation for what I was feeling. His words, plus or minus, were “Respectfully, Leh-nerd, I’ve listened to you talk for 10 minutes about all the negative things going on, and I’m wondering if I’m hearing it, maybe your team is as well? How do you think that impacts them?”. * He is was right, and I’m telling you sure as the sun shines I’m correct now. Out of respect for your feelings, I’ll cease tagging you or replying to your posts. * After this conversation, I was driving and watching a hawk soar with a beautiful blue sky behind it. I felt….I don’t know…like a weight had been lifted and I was somehow…free, yes, free. Like a bird. I wrote down my thoughts…and…well, now you know the rest of the story…. You don’t have to stop responding, taking a little silly. You point out to good posters who try to stay above the swamp and generally have good well thought out posts and engage in a good conversation right? We can agree on that? Even if you disagree with them? They hardly ever post here. I wonder why? and no I don’t think you are a dumb old fat ass. If there is someone on the right who is decent it is you. But I cannot and will not try to have a conversation with someone who dishonestly defends trump tooth and nail at every turn. Do you and maga on here care? I’m sure you don’t.

Listen, L Ron Sr - just because I don’t tell the populace how well off I am, which is a very weird and off putting thing to do, doesn’t mean that I have not been blessed. You are unhinged today and projecting what the democrats have been about for decades onto the awful people that voted for Trump. It’s your way of coping. I am content to see how it plays out. In general, people did reasonably well under the last orange reign of terror, pre-Covid. Time will tell. Carry on but maybe see if you can simmer yourself on down a notch.

colin Posted November 7 Posted November 7 The biggest thing I've learned from this is that Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. is singularly the greatest force in modern American political history. The president he served under was seen as a political giant based on his victories and the total number of votes won, but I think we can clearly conclude at this point that Biden was the real driving force behind Obama's two terms of victory. Obama won (more in 2008, fewer in 2012) on average within in a few million votes of what Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris won in 2016 and 2024. He was also the first DNC president to win an actual vote majority since Carter barely eclipsed half at 50.1% in 1976. I thought at the time Obama was a strong political talent who was the figurehead ushering in the new Democratic party, but it was clearly the inclusion of Biden as his VP which won the day. When Obama was removed from the ticket and Biden defeated Trump in 2020 (beating an incumbent president after having himself gone back to continue his long tenured Senate role in Delaware) soundly and won a staggering 81MM votes. When Biden was removed from the ticket in 2024, with his VP (Kamala Devi Harris) running while he was still the sitting president who endorsed her, facing the same Trump who he earned the above mentioned record number of votes against, Harris earned ~13MM (counting is still ongoing in the more tardy states) fewer votes than Biden. The vote total that Biden won was so earth shattering that the second and third greatest number of votes won in a presidential election, both by Trump once in defeat to Biden and once in victory over Harris, were 6MM and 8MM fewer. Every single time Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. has been on a ticket for the White House, his party has won with a majority of total votes, and set or challenged records for total number of votes won. He is the real champion of the 2008, 2012, 2020, and 2024 election, and it is clear that if had run in 2016 he would have been victorious with a then record (possibly shattered during his second run in 2020) number of votes. 1 3

Cheat on all his wives and children? He wasn’t found to have raped a woman by a judge? The list goes on and on, I could keep going. It means he got elected, don’t confuse the two. like I said earlier the trend I’m noticing in the last few elections is people are being voted out rather than being voted in.

I plan on doing some takes on 1 and 5 with some references to my 2020 doomer thread about all the missteps and promises not kept in his first presidency. With regard to 2, the depressed turnout for Dems is wild. Some initial reports have independent voters (who broke for Kamala but by 4 fewer points than they did for Biden in 2020) outvoting registered Dems. How is it depressed? She got virtually the same number of votes as Hillary and Obama. 1
colin Posted November 7 Posted November 7 7 minutes ago, JFKjr said: How is it depressed? She got virtually the same number of votes as Hillary and Obama. Please note my post above on the greatness of Joe Biden. If you recall, President Trump was impeached for conduct during a telephone call with leadership in Ukraine, a key American ally and the recipient of enormous military and monetary aid, questioning the former Vice President who would become President defeating Trump in 2020 and winning the stand out number of votes in the above graph. It has been clear that Biden is America's choice as president, and he has never appeared on a ticket where his side did not win the majority of votes and indeed set records.

At this point it’s just better to play it at their level and let it ride. Ultimately, in the long term, I think that this outcome is better than if Trump won in 2020. But to your point 1

It remains untenable to have a large swath of the country with abortion bans in this situation. We aren't done with the abortion wars by any means. My prediction: it will involve interstate travel to obtain an abortion. And I don't see how that resolves in a pretty way. SCOTUS erred with Roe V Wade by agreeing to listen to the case in the first place. The US constitution is clear, Abortion is not a protected, or even listed, Right in the constitution, therefore its a States issue. Even RBG said she knew it was going to come back to SCOTUS at some point and be overturned. Proponents of abortion are missing the point they have MORE power by forcing it on a state ballot to be voted on like it was in 3 states last night. Florida voted it down, which can happen. You are right, some women will need to travel, but the option hasn't been totally taken away. It failed in Florida because the law was cutting parents out of loop. 16 year olds should not be allowed to get abortions without parental consent. If the abortion people want it to pass they need something more moderate. 1 1

Election forecasting and public policy comprehension are two distinct endeavors. 2. I have the humility (believe it or not) to admit when I’m wrong, so long as I’m presented with sufficient evidence and a persuasive counterargument. I’ll concede that I’ve been existing too long in the milieu of female yuppies; I drank a little too much “hopium” this election cycle, against my typically more economically cynical political instincts. 3. I’m well-versed in most public policy topics, especially ones related to the environment, macroeconomics, health care, and American foreign policy. Please feel free to ask me specific questions if you doubt that is the case! 4. I have extensive experience as a campaign volunteer for progressive candidates, including Bernie Sanders and various local NYC politicians. These experiences have provided me with useful political connections and unique insights which you may or may not find interesting. Recent example: I just helped friend/big sis, “I’m So Julia” Salazar, get re-elected as a New York State Senator! Hurray! On 11/7/2024 at 9:08 AM, wnyguy said: Kay, I do appreciate your posts, you are an excellent wordsmith for sure. Here's the thing, you have been lied to and if this election hasn't shown the liberal left wing how wrong they are then there is no hope for them. Should the Democratic party move even further left it will be their death knell. That's what this election was about and I see you were surprised that the majority of Americans have become frustrated and fed up with the left wing agenda that your party embraces. So please keep preaching your sermons but don't be surprised when it is seen as an insult to your average American regardless of their race, religion, or gender. That is why Trump was victorious. Ok, but can you specify the composition of this “left-wing agenda” that Americans rejected? I suspect you might be conflating many corporate establishment politics (as proffered by Harris/Biden) with actual progressive politics (under Bernie, our most wonderful exemplar!). As far as I’m aware, most progressive policies are actually very popular with Americans and regularly poll nationally above 60% (especially our economic ones). The only prominent exceptions with which I’m familiar: 1. Crime: I won’t defend because I’m a centrist on this topic. It should be noted, however, that Harris ran as a centrist public prosecutor. Furthermore, hardly any progressives in the country still support “Defund the Police” policies, contrary to right-wing media claims. It hasn’t been popular within far-left circles since 2021. 2. Immigration: Likewise, I won’t defend because I’m a centrist on this topic. Those who had properly sifted through the media rhetoric would have found that Harris did, in fact, run as a moderate here. 3. Transgender rights: the details concerning child transitioning and sports participation are the only reasonable sub-topics to debate; everything else is part of a greater American moral bankruptcy, that of bigotry rooted in scientific illiteracy and lack of familiar association, which needs to be rectified. Harris actively avoided talking about this topic, by the way; right-wing media personalities are the ones who obsessed over it. 4. Free speech: neither side is fully principled in this regard, depending on the particular topic of protected speech. MAGA, for example, seems to have developed a lust for shutting down peaceful protests against Israel’s genocide. 5. Unrestricted abortion: I’m 100% with the farthest of the far-leftists here. Keeping the American legal system completely out of the decision-making process between prospective mothers and health professionals is the safest course of action for victims of rape, i n c e s t, and reproduction-related medical complications. I’ll always prioritize the interests of the already born over those of the unborn. Those who don’t are people who probably think of females as nothing more than walking incubators with up to three entertainment holes. If you’re morally uncomfortable with abortion after 12 weeks (the earliest theoretical point of fetal pain recognition), as I am, then pray for these mothers and try to persuade them to carry the fetus to term. But forcing a woman to give birth, against her will, often leads to terrible outcomes for both the woman and for society as a whole. 6. Inflation causes and remedies: Probably the #1 reason why Bernie’s triad coalition of Gen Z/Millennials, the working class, and Latinos blew up on the Democratic Party in 2024. No one among the far-left or center-left did a good enough job articulating the causes; Biden, meanwhile, did next to nothing to alleviate its impact. Oof. I already discussed this topic in depth a while back, but I can provide links later to my earlier posts on inflation for those who care to read. Summary: had little to do with U.S. energy policy, government pandemic stimulus, or irresponsible monetary policy. The bulk of it was related to transportation logistics and oligopoly price gouging. I also have macroeconomics research papers on file to support this stance, for those who care?
