He didn’t. Hamlin was treated like the clear number 1 safety from the start, never leaving the field. We’ve seen McDermott rotate CBs in a competition, he didn’t do it here. I can understand why he wouldn’t be happy. He said all the right things up until the season started. Maybe when the season started and he wasn’t playing he decided he wanted out and that’s when the bad attitude started. Question: when has McDermott rotated players during the season? We have this tendency. Sign a good player at a decent cap hit with starter to contributor level expectations and basically never use them. 3

Another way to look at this is that they don’t let a players salary determine how much / whether he plays. If he was signed to start but is outplayed by someone else, then he rides the pine. I respect that. I understand that this is financially bad if it happens a lot, but I think it’s healthy in moderation to reinforce the fact that it is a meritocracy and you earn your playing time.
PromoTheRobot Posted yesterday at 01:05 AM Share Posted yesterday at 01:05 AM Joe Marino (Locked on Bills) passed along some Edwards info today from an unnamed source, so take it for what it's worth. That source said Edwards' expected to be the starter, even with all the injuries in camp. He was indignant that he would have to compete for the job. So that attitude did not sit well with McDermott and that's why he's not playing, supposedly.

Every CB outside of Taron Johnson, healthy Tre White, and Douglas has been part of a rotation under McDermott at some point with the Bills. They’ve done some things at safety when Poyer or Hyde are out as well. For whatever reason Edwards got zero opportunity, even with them playing a lot of dime looks this year. Cam Lewis is that extra DB. Edited yesterday at 01:54 AM by Buffalo_Stampede
ganesh Posted yesterday at 02:22 AM Share Posted yesterday at 02:22 AM Many players have been in McDermott's dog house...Edwards was one among them.

Don't sign someone unless you're sure as hell going to use them. We're just wasting valuelable cap space that could've gone to an elite pass rusher or 1T?

Wasn't it first Gaines, and then Johnson (and maybe even later, Josh Norman) who platooned at the #2 boundary CB spot opposite Tre White for 3ish seasons? Levi Wallace and then Dane Jackson later entered this fray. That #2 job has been somewhat fluid over the years.

Doc Brown
16 hours ago, HappyDays said: Joe Marino put out some interesting info on today's Locked On Bills. He said two weeks ago a source told him that Mike Edwards was very unhappy that he had to compete for a starting job, he had a bad attitude about it, and he was apparently giving low effort in practice. That's why he was a mainstay on the inactive list. So this whole thing has been brewing for a while. It sucks that a veteran who's spent his career competing for playing time suddenly decided he was the greatest thing since sliced bread. What a loser, honestly. This is why you can't always judge coaching decisions without knowing what's going on behind the scenes. It sucks but it's the decisions you have to make to maintain a culture. BTW, I wonder who his inside source is? I know Marino is close with Aaron Kromer.

It’s too bad he was injured multiple times early on in camp when he would’ve completed for the spot. Once the season started he never got the shot again and became disgruntled. At minimum thought he would still be good depth in case of injury but that is now lost too.
