Ed_Formerly_of_Roch Posted December 10 Posted December 10 When do these teams learn?? Picking your next HC because as an OC he was great, but had one of the top two or three QB's in the league as his QB does not mean he will become a good HC. See Daboll, Gase, number of OC's from Pats, and others before him. In that respect I do think Ben Johnson is a much better choice as the Lions QB is very good, but not in the same league as Allen, Mahomes, Jackson, or Burrow. But yet Johnson has made the Lions offense one of the tops in the league without the superstar QB. On the other hand is it a smart move for the Joe Brady's of the world to take these jobs as better chance of failure than success. But as they say, only 32 of these jobs exist, so kind of get it. Likely even if he gets fired after 2 years, he'd make more in those two years than he'd make in in 10 years as an OC. 3 Quote

I wouldn't hire Frank Reich if he was the only option. 3 Quote

Me too...because it would likely have to come from outside the organization this time which would mean that Allen will have to learn a completely new offense for the first time since his rookie year. 1 Quote

L Ron Burgundy Posted December 10 Posted December 10 Good thing they have -62k cap space. Crap job. Quote
fergie's ire Posted December 10 Posted December 10 While we're at it, can we hire a screen specialist? Someone who will focus on running and defending them? We had some good RB screens against LA but that is rare. Usually, if it's not Shakir, the screen goes nowhere. And the defense sucks at stopping the screen and that did continue Sunday. It seems like the Bills have been terrible at screens for decades. 1 Quote

It's crazy to watch Ben Johnson stick around in Detroit and Bobby Slowik stick around in Houston, but the Bills' OCs get poached. Yes, I realize this is the reality of having a defensive minded head coach and a franchise QB. Our OCs will repeatedly get hired elsewhere after Allen has great seasons. But if it could not happen after just ONE SEASON, that would be freakin lovely. It’s my biggest argument for replacing McDermott. 1 1 1 Quote

eball Posted December 10 Posted December 10 I know these guys all want to be head coaches, but walking into that New Orleans situation just seems like a recipe for disaster. Horrible cap, no QB, and aging players. That said, there’s always somebody out there who thinks he has the answers. 1 Quote
Buffalo Ballin Posted December 10 Posted December 10 WTF? Go ahead. Take Joe Brady. The truth is Josh Allen, and perhaps James Cook, make this team run. Not the OC, Not McDermott and not Beane. 3 1 Quote

Josh Allen will have a top 5 scoring offense no matter who is the OC. Keep the OL coach forever. What will make for great conversation is if Brady gets a HC job and Brian Daboll gets fired. I have Saints season tix, so I follow more closely than the other 30 not-Buffalo teams. Allen was awful. So milquetoast, and so out of his league. Kubiak, though, was a HUGE upgrade over Carmichael. If I were the Saints, I don’t let Kubiak out of his contract until the HC is in place and vets him. Now if Brady actually does end up there, unless they have some sort of prior working relationship, presumably Kubiak would be gone under those circumstances. 1 Quote

The same happens in defense too..The Chiefs DC is not getting poached and has been there for all their SB seasons. 2 Quote
