As much as I would love consistency and like Brady, I can’t ever fault a guy for advancing his career.

For his sake, good luck.  For our sake, make the most out of this year as Brady won’t leave mid year (at least I hope).  The Saints will probably use a staff person for interim, as they get a better candidate post season if any team.

At this rate, Josh is going to have a new OC every year.

That’s why we should have hired an already-fired head coach as OC this year.  I was calling for Kingsbury for a few years.  He is absolutely killing it with Washington and Jayden Daniel’s.

I don't think that he's the only elite player on the team but I mostly agree with what you're saying.

The RBs have actually been elite in the passing game this year. The stats are extremely good for Allen when targeting RBs.

IDK, I suppose that depends upon how one defines elite.

Otherwise, Cook & Davis are the only two that have made a significant impact in the passing/receiving game and it hasn't been all that consistent.  Together they've logged 29 catches for 319 yards and a pair of TDs.  Cook's single biggest contribution was in a blowout win over the hapless Jags.  Davis' only notable catches have been the 62-yarder in this past game and the 43-yarder vs. the Jets, both exceptional catches, but he's got 8 grabs for 44 yards and no scores otherwise.

That's not really elite pending the definition.  For elite in terms of receiving RBs I think a RB that logs 600+ receiving yards and historically I think of the Faulk, Centers, Byars, Roger Craig types.

Last season the top-three RBs for receiving yards were Breece Hall with 591 yards and 4 TDs;  McCaffrey with 564 and 7 TDs;  and Rashaad White with 549 and 3 TDs.

Our two combined are on pace for 602 and 4 TDs between them.  That doesn't seem like it registers as elite for either.

Also, greater consistency is required for elite status.  3 catches in three games for both TDs and about half the yards with fairly pedestrian performance otherwise doesn't qualify as elite either.

Just sayin'.

BTW, having said that, IMO we have players that could be elite in a different offensive system, which is the core of the pro/anti-McD argument.

Who can't envision Kincaid doing what LaPorta does if not more in the passing game.  Certainly Shakir's capable of much more.  But when you don't even throw the ball an average of 30 times/game, averaging 19 completions, with the goal of spreading the ball around, it's going to be difficult for any receiver to develop into an elite receiver, whether RB, WR, or TE.

We rank 16th in the NFL in pass attempts, and IMO when you have Josh Allen, that's criminal.  It's not like we have Derrick Henry in his prime back there.  Then forcing that balance and the running game ...  It's what did us in vs. Baltimore and Houston.

What has LaPorta been doing this year? He has 300 yards and 2 TD's this year. Kincaid has more catches, yards, and the same amount of TDs. TE production is down all around the NFL this year. Travis Kelce hadn't done a lot until the past two weeks.

Right, that's why we rank 16th in passing attempts and got boat raced by Baltimore and beaten by an inferior Texans team as our only two games against any team that's going anywhere.

Again, call it a difference of opinion.  Yours is the going narrative, but there's more to it than that.

Keep in mind, we have a coach that's on record as having said that the key to offensive success in this league is running the ball.  But on the flip side he builds his defense to stop the pass.

Make sense to you?

Because that take makes zero sense to me.

When has he said that the key to offense is running the football? That doesn't sound like McDermott. He has said at times that we need to run the football better and that we need to play complimentary football. Do you have a quote?

There are only 32 NFL head coaching jobs in the world.  When one of those spots is offered, it is very difficult to pass up.

Yet year in and year out we see guys do just that. Ben Johnson, Dan Quinn and Bobby Slowik in particular have interviewed and later removed themselves from consideration for the last 3 years.

Some guys need to take bad jobs because it's their only chance. Dave Culley. Mike Petine. But the top guys who are in demand can afford to wait on a better opportunity.

Or --- Thurman Thomas in the K-Gun years --- 60/669- 6 TD; 49/532 - 2TD; 62/631 5TD; 58/626 - 3 TD

The Saints should absolutely go with Ben Johnson at this point.  His offense has just produced a 6 game stretch that is incredible, and he would get something out of Carr and Kamara.

Interesting how Ben Johnson ghosted the Commanders this past winter as their private jet landed on a Detroit runway.  His main concern, Washington didn't seem in position to win now and having an unknown QB situation.  Turns out Ben Johnson would have inherited a hell of an opportunity.  In my opinion, Carr is a has been,  I wouldn't go to New Orleans unless they have some stud QB coming in.

Yea, the only reason I'd go to New Orleans is if they could do a tear down and rebuild.  Their division isn't particularly strong, and a top 5 pick to get your franchise QB  in may be nice.

Ben Johnson should 100% be higher on that list than Brady. They are overvaluing the LSU connection.

It may factor in whether Ben Johnson takes that job. Saints job is a tear down, getting out of perennial cap hell situation. So probably a 2nd tier candidate.

Who would want to go to New Orleans with all the cap issues and aging players?

I think its the last attractive job the is available (or likely to be). Saints may have trouble fielding a roster next year with all their cap issues.

Jets have far more good pieces, even if Rodgers retires

Nobody wants that job unless it's written in their contract that they can't be fired for 2 years, at minimum.  No cap at all, dead cap everywhere, aging/average players everywhere.

I understand there are only 32 of these jobs but why would you bet your career on turning it around when you have nothing other than draft picks to make your team better (and the GM will probably trade those away too so they don't have to sign rookies and hurt their cap more)?

I would go for Aaron Glenn , former New Orleans Saint and get the minority draft pick.

Sure Brady is immediate to people 's mind as he had a great year at LSU but Baton Rouge is Not New Orleans, it is like Olean is to Buffalo.

Really?

The will be in a position to draft a QB very early, maybe in the first pick and to have a franchise QB on a rookie contract is the golden ticket.  Just ask the Texans or the Commanders the next few years.
