I think the talent disparity of the defense is too much to ignore. The 2021 team had a lot of talent. Hyde and Poyer were AP. White was AP the year before. Milano was AP the year after. I don't think we have 4 guys on the defense that will ever make an AP team, personally. Taron is all pro. It’s tough for boundary corners but benford will probably get one at some point. Bernard has a chance if he can stay healthy for a year but I don’t know if that’s possible. bit that’s about it unless Rousseau continues to improve Quote
Kenosha2Buffalo Posted November 5 Posted November 5 We were never able to beat teams in multiple ways, we finally have that on this year's team. Definitely better Quote
artmalibu Posted November 5 Posted November 5 This yeas team has yet to beat a team with a winning record... 1 Quote
Mikie2times Posted November 5 Posted November 5 I think it’s the worst team in the Allen playoff era. We haven’t beat anybody who is an actual threat and we have looked sloppy in a large % of games vs bottom dwellers. Things can change, but that’s how I see it so far. 2 Quote

So it would be 5 on that 2021 team. Yeah I take the 21 team still. But we will get Milano back at some point hopefully and see what happens. The back 7 will really need him and Bernard playing at a high level come postseason. I will say this. IMO, Josh Allen is playing the best ball of his career. He has never done this much with less. Having the game he had yesterday was incredible. And when your generational QB plays the best ball of their career (even if the raw numbers don’t support it) you can win the SB. Just ask the 2022 Chiefs. Quote
TBBills Fan Posted November 5 Posted November 5 Josh is going further in the playoffs with this team than he has with any other. Quote

This team just put up 30 without WR1 and CB1 against the top offense last year. Don't see any reason we can't win out , obstacles happen, injuries happen but I see the most complete team I've seen in the Allen era imo Just curious of the families thoughts of why or why not they are or aren't GO BILLS You need to be cautious with analyses such as this one. 7 of the 9 teams we've played ranked below average in scoring D at midseason. We beat 6 of them. The other two rank only 10th and 14th. The Jets were 10th and they're a team in disarray, and talk about coaching issues ... We haven't proven ourselves against top-10 defenses. Not that we play many, only the Lions and Chiefs otherwise. Again, if the bogey is the regular season, yes, we're great. If it's the postseason, very much TBD. Quote

I also think the AFC is a complete dumpster fire this year, so the competition is not quite what we faced then. I'd say this is the second-best team that Allen has had, below 2020. It is funny how AFC was considered stronger conference last year but this year so many AFC teams have faltered this year and a lot of the issues appear to be front offices. 1 Quote

I can't believe we're in a place where Allen doesn't have to run the ball at all, or very little compared to previous years. Funny you say that. In past years I loved watching them draw up Allen runs, especially on the pin and pull edge runs. Now, I’d rather Allen be in the pocket with the ball and only running when it’s organic and necessary. 1 1 Quote
Orlando Buffalo Posted November 5 Posted November 5 I think the 2021 team was better but I think this one could be better by end of year, a lot of our teams have not gotten cooking till the last 6 weeks of year. Quote

Still a good/great team, but there are just too many indicators that make me feel like they’ll make a significant run at the Lombardi. You never know. Maybe they can figure it all out. I just don’t think they have the horses. This team is built around one elite player at the most important position, and then we have a bunch of solid guys around him. I just don’t think it’ll be enough. 1 Quote

I don’t think he has less except at WR and we haven’t really seen what kind of an impact Cooper will have once he and Josh get some chemistry. He has more at TE. More at RB and a better OL. I would take past defenses over this one, but none of them were close to healthy or good enough come playoffs. Edited November 5 by NewEra Quote

On top of that there's been lots of injuries and the team's best players on paper haven't played together even once. There are three reasons for optimism: 1) This is the best O-line of the McBeane/Josh Era. 2) This is the best running back group in the McBeane/Josh Era. 3) Including tight ends, this could become the best receiver group of the McBeane/Josh Era. Ask me again in December. 45 minutes ago, FireChans said: Shoot I forgot. So it would be 5 on that 2021 team. Yeah I take the 21 team still. Best running game we’ve had during the Allen years, AND Josh is the playing at his best level right now too. I think the latter is the most important piece, but the running game is taking a lot of pressure off him too, in my opinion. And allowing us to control possessions during games. 1 Quote
SCBills Posted November 5 Posted November 5 Maybe.. pending Coleman’s timeline and Cooper getting healthy. Smoot is out for a while, if not the season it seems. Still think we need another WR and DL piece to view it as his clear best team ever. Quote
RiotAct Posted November 5 Posted November 5 2020 and 2021 were easily the best rosters in the Allen era. Quote
SageAgainstTheMachine Posted November 5 Posted November 5 Just to throw one thing out there…this is the most under control, wise, judicious version of Josh that we’ve seen. That fact alone can make up for some talent differential and contribute to winning playoff games. But no, the roster is not our best. It’s a soft rebuild with some good starters, some bad starters and encouragingly a promising rookie class. Quote
