I guess I should have said "before the TV had even cooled off." Unfortunately I don't have enough vacation time to go back to WNY as much as I'd like although a fellow Bills fan who lives out here is trying to talk me into going to the Lions game. I haven't ruled it out. 😄 My experience with Detroit games is that those fans are DEVOTED, and the cheap(er) seats are filled with a rough crowd. They are not a brilliant lot. But they are enthusiastic. Also, I think either that venue was designed by an impressive team of sound engineers and/or they pump in artificial fan noise when the Lions are on defense. Never heard fans get so loud so quickly, on demand. Like a machine. They're definitely a passionate fanbase, but damn it is so rapid and unified on each meaningful defensive snap. For contrast, when the Bills hosted the Jets there, the noise wasn't even remotely similar (smaller and less unified crowd on short notice for sure, to be clear). No stadium I've been to has ever gotten that loud, that quickly, so automatically on defensive snaps. All this to say that Detroit is an energetic venue where fans will give you a rough ride especially if you're a little higher up (very vertical venue). I dig that energy, but it's an old school vibe unless you're in a more expensive section. 1 Quote

BigDingus Posted November 5 Posted November 5 Well I'm glad both of our biggest rivals can run the ball well... Not like that will come back to haunt us. Even Kareem Hunt got going tonight. The Chiefs & Ravens will run all over us in the playoffs if something doesn't change. Quote

Sweats Posted November 5 Posted November 5 I honestly have no issues with how our D played on Sunday......i mean yeah, i would have loved for us to shut them down on every play but that wasn't going to happen, the Fins were going to get their yards. So, do you play against the pass or the run? History shows us that the Fins are never patient with their run game and even if its working for them, they tend to abandon it and get Tua to start throwing it around the field and that always leads to INT's over the course of a game and the Fins always lose against us. The Fins focused on the run game, they stuck with it and it was their "bread and butter" so to speak. They stayed with what was working. They were patient and imposed their will on us with the run game and for the most part, it worked........but people won't remember that the Fins gave us a run for our money, they will remember a 61 yarder FG by Bass. The Fins had an excellent game plan and i'll say that 9 times out of 10, they win that game......they did everything right, but the score is the score and time to move onto next week. Quote
SectionC3 Posted November 5 Posted November 5 10 hours ago, Coach Tuesday said: This. They are not winning enough of their individual matchups up front on defense to truly make a difference against the teams they’ll face in the playoffs. And who is the emotional leader of this defense? Who is setting the tone? This. I completely agree with this. The D line on the whole has to be more disruptive for the perma-nickel to work against particularly the Ravens. Losing Smoot might be a problem with respect to that matchup. I'd say maybe look into bringing Shaq back, but for the fact that he was part of a shooting the night before the division championship game last year. That, I suspect, ended his time here. 1 Quote
gjv Posted November 5 Posted November 5 (edited) Every good team we play will gash us with the run. That's old news. I was hoping with our smaller and quicker LB's the quick passes out to the flat that Tua was completing to Achane and Mostert all day would have been thwarted, but no. without a drought Posted November 5 Posted November 5 Hopefully the Bills can bounce back with a win this week and keep pace with the dolphins. 2 Quote

oldmanfan Posted November 5 Posted November 5 The Fish have a great offense. The Bills have chosen to take hill and Waddle out of the game and given them the run. And it has consistently worked the last couple years. Quote

I think this is a big part of it.... ultimately Hill, Waddle, Beckham and Smith did not kill us down field. I think their focus was on taking that away. But, I hated the way we shed blocks and shot gaps. Very little of that... we seemed way to easy to block and get taken out of play. I think secondarily the pass rush was non existent Tua was rarely under duress.... I think I understand that as we simply accepted he was going to get rid of the ball in 1.5 seconds and he did... this obviously if it continues is going to limit the effectiveness of Waddle and Hill.... last and maybe most important to me is that Oliver and Jones we completely non existant. Didnt eat space, blow up plays, collapse pockets etc... in fact havent really done much of it all season. Most disappointing is Oliver, for his contract, we simply need better out of his position. Jones just may be getting old and starting to diminish. 1 Quote
Royale with Cheese Posted November 5 Posted November 5 Miami with their speed at WR and RB and McDaniels does a good job of scheming....I just think they're a good run team. I'm not a big RB guy but if Achane came available....I would love to have him in Buffalo. I like Cook but I don't want to extend him. Every time the ball is thrown to him, I hold my breath. He drops the easiest passes too many times and I don't think he's good in picking up the blitz. 1 Quote

We did not get an interception. "If's" don't count. It was a defensive disaster, especially in the second half. Quote

We didn’t get them in any third and longs they played the short game and didn’t have any mistakes or holding calls im saying we never had the opportunity’s because their dink and dunk game was working but tua going 25/28 isn’t a great stat he threw like 2 passes past ten yards. Previous games they would get sacked, hold, drop a ball and get in third and longs which gave us those “if” chances Bills didn’t let hill and waddle beat them and it worked Quote
WideNine Posted November 5 Posted November 5 14 hours ago, Bob in STL said: It is relevant. The Bills purposely played light against the run to help contain passes and big plays. The thinking is they sacrifice run support to cover Tua and his receivers and take away big plays. They stuck with it. If the DL makes more plays they could have fared better against the rum, but they did not put more in the box. They were determined to stop big pass plays. The Bills won, and had a TD called back on a phantom holding, and another TD dropped which became an interception at the 2 yard line. Their overall strategy worked with some margin for error, which they needed. I agree that the horrible series that started with the Cook drop could have changed the game script. So could Mostart hanging onto the rock and not fumbling away Miami's chance to take a solid lead which allowed us to put them into catch-up mode. There are ways the coin could have flipped for either team, but I would have liked to see something a bit more creative generating some pressure and getting a few stops. Obviously, that comes with some risk as it was a Miami blitz that left things wide open on the Davis pitch and catch TD. But they often got pressure on Allen and forced him off his spots far more than we did with Tua. That said, Allen was Houdini avoiding the rush and making smart decisions with the ball. I guarantee Spags would not have rolled with something so vanilla, or he would have changed things up that weren't working. I just cannot forget all the times we roll into the playoffs with a solid offense and great Allen performances only to have the defense piss it away so there is some history bias at play. With a defensive HC and so much investment on that side of the ball, you expect more. Quote

Yep. It is why games are so circumstantial with how they go. When teams have to go off script it creates opportunity for the opposition even more. For as good as the Ravens have been if you can get up on them to force them to not run as much it is a major help. That to me is the real key to beating Baltimore as their defense is not very good this year. Once they get going with a lead they can bludgeon you rushing all day. 1 Quote

I think that is the only way we could beat them...unless Henry or Lamar blow a tire and either can't run so you don't have to defend both. Henry is just a load if he gets past the first level. Quote

He really is an incredible RB 1 Quote
