Waddle injured then returned on the very next play

It used to be that if a player was injured, he had to sit out one play before he could return to the game.  Waddle was injured on the last play before the two minute warning, then returned for the first play after the two minute warning.  Is this not a penalty?  What am I missing?

ARTICLE 3. INJURY TIMEOUTS PRIOR TO TWO-MINUTE WARNING OF EITHER HALF

When an injury timeout is called, the injured player must leave the game for the completion of one down. The player will be permitted to remain in the game if:

either team calls a charged team timeout;

the injury is the result of a foul by an opponent; or

the period ends or the two-minute warning occurs before the next snap.

At the conclusion of an injury timeout, the game clock will start as if the injury timeout had not occurred. If either team takes, or is charged with, a timeout, the clock will start on the snap.

The two minute warning. A player doesn't have to sit out if it happened right before the two minute warning. Like a time out. (I think).

he was injured went to two minute warning (timeout) then returned. I just assumed the 2 minute was considered a timeout and allows them to return

He got an ankle injury and it looked serious

I didn't make sense to me that Miami wasn't charged a timeout AND the clock started running again before a play

Those refs overall ***** sucked, hell even on the game winning drive they let Mack Hollins spot the ball.

This is correct. Dolphins weren't charged a timeout because there was 2:14 or whatever on the clock. Since the last play was a run play, the clock starts on the whistle and proceeds to the 2 minute warning. The 2 minute warning is considered a timeout, so Waddle can return to the field of play after the timeout.

I don't know why they were all surprised; it wasn't even the first time in the game he'd done it. 

I think he got away with another one on that last drive late in the first half.

It did not look that serious.  It looked like he was being a baby.
