Simon Posted November 4 Posted November 4 @HappyDays has mentioned Sebastian Joseph-Day in Tennessee. He can play all up and down the DL and is a FA at the end of the year so might be good value at a bargain price. Color me intrigued. 7 Quote

I'm sure they weren't focusing on the run, but you still expect your 1T to make some plays. DQ was brutal in this game. The LBs were never kept clean. Very possible a Super Bown run would involve beating Baltimore, KC, and Detroit. That ain't happening with the middle of our defense constructed as it currently is. I'll be shocked if Beane doesn't make an addition. 2 3 2 Quote

Do you think that the Bills are of the same mindset, that this is a need, not a want? And so that they are seriously considering players like Joseph-Day and others? Gotta keep improving, eliminating weaknesses. I cannot imagine Beane or McDermott being satisfied with this as it stands and only hoping for the best--and not believe that this may be a missing link right here, right now. And the good thing is, as far as a trade is concerned, that we only have to wait a short time to see what they do. 1 Quote

It's possible because you know how much importance they place on teh DL. Considering that I think we saw DaQuan Jones get demoted mid game today, they might just be willing to look for some insurance. 1 1 Quote

They must shore up their run defense and at the same time get more pressure on quarterbacks to be a true contender. Seems a little negligent if the Bills do not do this in the next two days. They may really struggle against the best quarterbacks and run games if they don't get some help. The Dolphins' defense had their way with the Bills today. The Bills could not stop the run or get pressure on Tua. Great win today, because they pulled it out, going 7-2. But also because it was a canary in the coal mine, a warning to the Bill' leaders of what they need, right now, to take the next step. Do you agree that this is not a luxury item, but a need? And who is a likely target? Is it a defensive tackle or end? The time is now, I think. Before the trade deadline? DeMarcus Lawrence. Good pass rusher and strong against the run. And/or, wait a few weeks and Matt Milano will be back. Quote

As a five technique playing on the strong side vs the run he is still pretty good. His long arms are a huge asset. They are not trading him because of the injury but they wouldn't even if he wasn't. Jerry doesn't trade players like him. He only dumps players who do something that he gets mad about on a personal level, like jay ratliff yelling at him in the locker room or amari cooper seemingly not giving his best effort in road games. I have zero confidence Milano will add anything this year, as it will be almost two years since he has played. Cannot cross our fingers and hope--that is what weak teams do. But, of course, Milano at full strength would be a grrrreat surprise to end the year. Quote
VW82 Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Carter will help a lot once he comes back from IR. I don't believe this is going to be resolved in 2024. Bills need to find a new 1T in the off season, hopefully the draft. Quote

Mister Defense Posted November 4 Author Posted November 4 Just checked... Ted Washington is only 56. Not sure if he can even walk anymore as he played 17 years, I think, and until he was almost 40. But even if not, the Bills can get a (giant) wheel barrow, and just wheel him out there, dump him on the line, and he will stop the run. Then wheel him off again, etcetera. I think I saw Mike Tyson is fighting someone again, and he is 58. 4 Quote

Exactly. If you're looking to add someone to address this you're not looking for a LB or a DL. You're looking for a big nickel that can cover AND play in the box. There aren't a lot of those guys. He got a big contract buffalo can't handle, He is playing end mostly in Jax and he is in his first season after his acl surgery and is not playing many snaps. Quote
gonzo1105 Posted November 4 Posted November 4 There are some guys the problem is the cap situation makes it really restrictive to do. For the guys who could be available to the Bills that we might be able to get under the cap with: Godchaux (NE) Don't think he'd be traded to Buffalo though Shelby Harris(CLE)has a base of 1.2 so he has around 600K left. Older though as he's 33 Davon Hamilton (Jax) though I think this one is unlikely Arik Armstead(Jax) would help the run game but not the 1T position Sebastian Joseph Day (Ten) visited the Bills in the summer. Makes sense if going off of that. John Jenkins (Oak) Will be cheap but he is old as dirt at 35. Linval Joseph (DAL) Already was here, not sure we go down that route again but has familiarity Shy Tuttle (CAR) Not really a 1T Khalen Saunders( NO) Eh maybe, makes sense as a 1T but is a cheaper guy for a cash strapped team. I mean some of these guys are a stretch but there just isn't a ton out there for guys who are available and guys who can fit under the cap. Might be a boost if Zion Logue can become a capable 1T by the end of the year for the Bills. 2 Quote
