But if he kicked it and it went through that would have been a helluva call. I think they had one left, I think the move was to hold it in case he missed. Is there any evidence icing works? Zag20
Every team in the league should have a kicker they’re are at least confident attempting a 61 yard FG with. And it appears we have one.
FireChans
Imo it was the right decision to kick. Maybe Bass gets some confidence going forward. if he had missed, he would’ve been sent packing tomorrow. Kind of a win win.

Be honest, how many of you were holding your palms up saying what is he doing? If he misses that kick, I think he pitchforks are in McDermott more than they are now. I used to play poker and the whole with with that game which has a luck factor is you have to evaluate your decision at the time you make the decision, the outcome or what might have come if the rabbit camera picked up your one outer is irrelevant. If he misses that kick, Miami has 5 seconds and a timeout from the Bills 49, which is a 66 yard kick, could they have gotten 5 yards and their own look at a 61 yarder? I think they could have. Curious what others thoughts are on this topic, I know a bunch will not want to engage because he made it. The people who second guess every outcome that goes the wrong way seem to be silent on almost every decision that that has a positive outcome for the Bills. You’re probably right, it was risky putting Bass in that moment. I think a big factor in the decision was the time remaining. If Bass does miss that FG it leaves :05 seconds on the clock maybe less. Tua doesn’t have the arm for a Hail Mary there and I’m not sure the time left would be enough for a completion and a TO. Even if it is, what are the chances of Sanders making a 61 yard-FG? Probably good, considering the track record of opposing kickers at the end of a game versus Bills 🤣 I didn’t think Bass was going to be anywhere close but thankfully he proved Everton OL wrong and maybe got some confidence back. That kick would’ve been good from 65

Boatdrinks
Didn’t want OT, that’s the bottom line. The way the D was playing you could smell a loss coming a mile away. The kick gave you a chance to get out of there with a W; we haven’t had much luck with coin toss lately.

Not completely sure they release him tomorrow but the narrative around Bass is totally different. That kick was huge in multiple ways

I was definitely one of those people. The Dolphins still had multiple timeouts, and missing a 61 yard FG puts them in position to get into FG range pretty quickly. But wow, what a moment it was to see Bass drill that kick! Hopefully that turns his confidence around & helps him going forward.
SageAgainstTheMachine
I'm a poker player as well and often think in terms of results-oriented (bad) vs process-oriented (good) thinking. This one was honestly pretty close. You're basically denying your opponent the roughly 50% of overtime win equity they have if you punt the ball, but introducing a medium-level risk of ruin in the sense that Sanders, a more accurate long kicker, can get one back at you and you lose in regulation which is a disaster. So it all comes down to exactly how often Bass makes that kick. I think you go for the kick if you think he's good 40% of the time.

Any fan of any team would be nervous in that moment. No kicker is a lock from 61 yards. But they drafted Bass in part because he has a big leg. That was the moment to use it. The wind had died down and a field goal wins the game. What other choice was there but to attempt a kick? I would have been so beyond pissed if McDermott punted it. and the announcers saying they should have tried a Hail Mary are idiots. I immediately said “f no” when they said that. Yeah, Allen has a great arm but hail Mary’s are such low percentage plays. To attempt one when they only needed a field goal to win would have been dumb AF. 2

ImpactCorey
I think the riskier play was a deep bomb on third down deep in their own territory with plenty of time on the clock for Miami. It was a great pass and maybe still caught without the penalty but in a way Bills got bailed out by Poyer. The FG with 5 seconds yet though? Correct call.
Ben
Ill admit I thought a hail mary had a better chance /of success, very happy to be wrong though.

Slack_in_MA
Honestly, even after his earlier PAT misses/doinks, I thought he had a 50/50 shot. Light wind, big leg. And I wonder if it’s like like lining up a long lag putt in golf— the pressure to make it feels less than that brutal four-footer that’s RIGHT ****ING THERE!!

Billsatlastin2018
1) Thought the entire final series was a bit of a FUBAR! 2) Had ZERO confidence in Bass, but lots of confidence the Fish weren’t kicking a 70 yarder! (0 options with 5 ticks). 3) Thought a 2-6 team was 100% going for 2 after they scored! Only confirmed losers play for a tie and give the ball to Josh Allen with 1:28 & 2 TOs! was right about 1 & totally wrong about 2 & 3.
