The Bills won a game that way on 12/2/2007:

2007 Bills at Washington Joe Gibbs called an illegal timeout that gave Rian Lindell a shorter field to kick the game-winner.

it also happened this year for the ravens I believe when we played.

they did like a challenge or injury timeout then another normal timeout which works as back to back timeouts as well

it’s a delay of game penalty

In the terms of back to back timeouts to ice a kicker it's still 15 yards and unsportsman like conduct:

Item 4. Unsportsmanlike Conduct. An attempt to call an excess team timeout, or to call a second timeout in the same dead ball period, by Team B in an attempt to “freeze” a kicker, shall be ignored and is unsportsmanlike conduct even if inadvertently granted (See 12-3-1-v). The timeout will be charged if inadvertently granted. This will apply to field goal or Try attempts.

I was scared 💯 but the only choice was to kick it.   Great decision imo

This place would be priceless entertainment for FinsHaven or whatever it’s called had that backfired! Just imagine what would have followed a blocked kick returned for a TD.  😂

Just the type of play that happens to the Bills.  Just never against Miami with Josh Allen under center

Yep good point falls in similar situation but different rules based on the scenario I remember the redskins game was a 15 yarder

Does that factor in time left?

I think knowing dolphins would only have one shot and tua not having a huge arm factored in the decision as well

Yes but big disclaimer to be careful wrt specifically end of game scenarios

Still think it's the obvious right choice tho

Yes right decision. Bass has a big leg and hopefully this brings back bass's confidence. Maybe a big win-win

Like golf, much of it is between the ears. Have faith and take a full swing, just like he used to do it.

Now I don't feel so bad. If one of the greatest football coaches imo called an illegal timeout on a FG I refuse to get down on myself because I didn't know the rule. 😂

I really think it was a bad decision.  Bass has been terrible, including this game.  What are the odds he makes that? 5%??  It worked so he looks like a hero but no one has had any confidence in bass this year.

i was thinking hail marry on the last play.  But Maybe they know joshes hand was hurt and that’s why they went FG? Who knows

5%? I'm guessing he practices that all week and he's probably well above 80% on those reps. The odds of a hail mary working there are far lower.

In game time situations they appear to have been around 50% as of two years ago with the percentage of 50+ yarders drastically increasing over the last 2 years:

McDermott makes a kind of gutsy, instinctive call that works and gets a thread of veiled criticism.  That's the kind of gratitude he gets around here.

Also haven't heard a peep out of the crew at the bar yelling "take the points" on the first drive.  4th and goal from the 3-4.

It seems like the use of the "McDummy"  will be shelved until able to be used effectively in the hindsight manner.

Besides the point imo

You can't roster someone who forces you into -ev decisions like that. And if you do you have bigger problems
