His leg woulda been a limp noodle by his 3rd attempt. Right choice to kick though. We all know he's got the leg, he's just inconsistent. Well you don’t know the rules calling back to back timeouts is a penalty so I’m sure they won’t take your coaching tips going forward 2 3 Quote
MarkMiller Posted November 4 Posted November 4 The kick had to happen. Yes, a shot to win the game but more importantly a chance for redemption for a kicker that has been through it over the past several games. If he misses, we most likely go to OT and who knows what happens. But if he makes it, you inject a huge shot of optimism that we all needed. I love it. 1 1 Quote

I did not realize that until today. Those are decent odds, don't you think? So somehow this stat doesn't count Bass missing the chip shot versus KC in last years playoff? As to the OP, credit needs to be given to McDermott. He made the right call. Quote
Alphadawg7 Posted November 4 Posted November 4 It’s not even a question. Attempting the kick was the right call no matter the outcome. Like 100%…and I’m someone who expected it to get blocked for a TD…you still try and end the game when you know your kicker has the leg to get it there. 1 Quote

Be honest, how many of you were holding your palms up saying what is he doing? If he misses that kick, I think he pitchforks are in McDermott more than they are now. I used to play poker and the whole with with that game which has a luck factor is you have to evaluate your decision at the time you make the decision, the outcome or what might have come if the rabbit camera picked up your one outer is irrelevant. If he misses that kick, Miami has 5 seconds and a timeout from the Bills 49, which is a 66 yard kick, could they have gotten 5 yards and their own look at a 61 yarder? I think they could have. Curious what others thoughts are on this topic, I know a bunch will not want to engage because he made it. The people who second guess every outcome that goes the wrong way seem to be silent on almost every decision that that has a positive outcome for the Bills. I don’t think 5 seconds is enough to run another play and call a TO. Quote
Mister Defense Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Did everyone see the footage after the kick, with Martin repeatedly kissing Bass on the sideline? Like he was kissing his son after a great accomplishment. Great to see, and that, along with Josh breaking down a little speaking about it after the game, showed me why this team is so consistent--and so good for so long. And makes me believe they can win it all this year. With Bass nailing another game winning field goal, but this time in the 2nd quarter, please! Quote

Orlando Buffalo Posted November 4 Posted November 4 If Bass has looked good at practice you absolutely kick it, McD has obviously seen improvement this week or he would not have kicked it. Quote
Sammy Watkins' Rib Posted November 4 Posted November 4 100% right. As long as wind isn’t a factor I think you go for anything 65 yards or less every time over a Hail Mary. Looked like Bass would have hit from 70 today. 3 Quote

Freddie's Dead Posted November 4 Posted November 4 The other options were to punt or Hail Mary. The FG try was a much better percentage, and as we saw, Bass had more than enough leg and head to make the kick. As much as I loathe McD as a game manager, he made the right call here as a superb leader of men. Quote
The Jokeman Posted November 4 Posted November 4 At the time I didn't like the call as felt too risky. As wasn't sure how good we'd be in OT as after the missed XP I was worried Bass be shaky at best Quote

That’s probably why. 1 Quote
DrPJax Posted November 4 Posted November 4 With mcds OT record , thank goodness he went for it. Great question that thankfully we can dismiss. Quote
SectionC3 Posted November 4 Posted November 4 This is one of the benefits of being in the stadium. The wind was different today. It was actually backwards. It was also subtle, and it showed that the staff was paying attention and breaking from protocol to choose to head toward the scoreboard in the fourth quarter. Bass also was hitting it really well today. I wasn’t there for pregame warm-ups, but there was a marked difference between how bass looked at the half today relative to at the prior home game (those warmups were bad). He hit from 52 twice headed toward the scoreboard during the break, and with room to spare. I can’t say that I thought it was likely that he would hit the 61 yarder in the game. But I also didn’t think it preposterous that he would hit it. It was the right call all day long to attempt that kick. 1 Quote

Wind is always a factor there I'm the lower bowl... Wind at his back. Bills lost coin toss to start the game. Ended with wind at his back... It was still 10mph I believe. 37 minutes ago, LABILLBACKER said: Well he and Parry sure read that replay/challenge wrong. And we sure could've used that extra TO during that last drive. That challenge was used for an extended TO. They were gonna burn it anyway, why not get McD's money's worth out of it! Shin looked down. Didn't Jets score a TD, ThursdayNight, on a shin down? His shin was down while the football was behind the line to gain. Seems to me the call should have been overturned. As far as the decision to kick goes, Bass made it and we won the game. Correct call all day long. Football ain't poker. Edited November 4 by reddogblitz 2 Quote
