And I wonder if it’s like like lining up a long lag putt in golf— the pressure to make it feels less than that brutal four-footer that’s RIGHT ****ING THERE!! The leg is very strong for distance. It’s that weird little hook he puts on a lot of balls, that has everyone VERY pissed and concerned. Quote
ColoradoBills Posted November 4 Posted November 4 (edited) HC McDermott had to make a split-second decision on sending Bass in. He doesn't have the chance to think about things like fans do in the aftermath of things. If Bass would have missed it, McDermott would have lived with it and regrouped to fight another day. A leader has to make the tough decisions. I'm glad it worked out for him and the team. Bravo Sean! Edited November 4 by ColoradoBills 6 Quote
JohnnyBuffalo Posted November 4 Posted November 4 In an odd way in the moment I felt the kick was more aggressive because it meant going for the win. I was concerned they’d play for the first down and run out of time and go to overtime. By saying “Bass go make it” showed big brass clangers IMO. Thank goodness it paid off! Go Bills! 1 Quote
MarkyMannn Posted November 4 Posted November 4 I thought the kick was a waste as no way Bass hits from 61. I would have done a Hail Mary as time runs out. Of course we don't see Bass in practice. Maybe he hits 60 yarders all the time, knowledge McD knows and we dont Quote
Billz4ever Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Other than a Hail Mary, which I didn't really want to see either, I saw the FG as the best of the bad options we had left. 1 Quote

I wish mcclappy was a good insult at least…like every coach in the league is clapping on the sideline 🤣 Quote
davefan66 Posted November 4 Posted November 4 The right call based on yards and time on the clock. A few yard longer or more time on the clock and no, you probably punt. Miami had a TO left and if you miss that FG with more time it’s a problem. Quote
hondo in seattle Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Despite Bass's much discussed struggles, I thought the FG attempt was the right decision. Hail Mary's have a very low probability of success. When our opponents do Hail Mary's, I figure the odds are roughly 50-50. When we do a Hail Mary, I figure our chances are about 1 in 10,000. The odds of a successful Hail Mary or Bass kicking a 61-yarder are both long. Bass has the leg strength. Where the ball goes, though, is anyone's guess. Still, I though the roulette wheel slightly favored the odds on Bass. Quote

Great decision imo Agreed.. i don’t think ANYONE had any confidence he would make that kick! But… they had to try it. I'm glad they did. LOL. Bigger question… say they got 7 or 8 yds on 3rd down. Would they have still kicked or gone for the 1st down? Quote
pennstate10 Posted November 4 Posted November 4 I was the right call. Punt or Hail Mary would be playing not to lose. im a big PSU football fan. PSU coach played not to lose and ended up with zero points after a first and goal inside the 5 at end of first half. Psu lost the game. 1 Quote
billsbackto81 Posted November 4 Posted November 4 The wrong choice was McDaniel not freezing the kicker with 2 timeouts left. It's a 61 yard kick! Make him try it twice! His leg woulda been a limp noodle by his 3rd attempt. Right choice to kick though. We all know he's got the leg, he's just inconsistent. 1 Quote
L Ron Burgundy Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Right decision. Bass has a big leg, struggles notwithstanding. All in all that game was too close. Our D didn't look great at times. Quote
Neo Posted November 4 Posted November 4 I’m no coach, but I was thinking throw some intermediate route and hope for a defensive penalty. OR, Hail Mary and hope for same. I was not thinking franchise record kick from Bass. 1 Quote
Cray51 Posted November 4 Posted November 4 I thought it was going to be a punt for sure. When they trotted Bass out I was surprised but not exactly nervous. The kick leaves 4-5 seconds left which isn’t really enough for anyone else to do anything. surprised, but not shocked Quote

This one was honestly pretty close. You're basically denying your opponent the roughly 50% of overtime win equity they have if you punt the ball, but introducing a medium-level risk of ruin in the sense that Sanders, a more accurate long kicker, can get one back at you and you lose in regulation which is a disaster. So it all comes down to exactly how often Bass makes that kick. I think you go for the kick if you think he's good 40% of the time. Sanders is 25/40 (62.5%) for 50+. Bass is 13/20 (65%). 2 Quote
ShakAttack Posted November 4 Posted November 4 If bass missed I think we should have been equally critical of the play calls leading up to that kick. The fact it was 4th and 10 was mildly embarrassing. 1 Quote

Mister Defense Posted November 4 Posted November 4 (edited) I am going with "right decision"!! The guy is 16 for 16 on kicks to tie or win a game. I did not realize that until today. Those are decent odds, don't you think? Edited November 4 by Mister Defense 1 Quote
