Benford is locking dudes down. That doesn't make Elam a bad CB. It makes him a waste of a 1st round pick. You can't afford as an organization to have 1 st rounder get outplayed by a 6th in the same draft. Let alone sit the bench. Why is this so hard to understand? 1 Quote

MikePJ76 Posted November 3 Posted November 3 I was told this week that he stinks, is not real depth and the coaches will never play him. People keep trying to throw him into trade deals for absolutely no reason other than they do not understand. 2 Quote

It was Taron that missed the other Miami game. 54 minutes ago, Einstein said: He barely plays even when one of those players are injured. He just ain’t that good. Don’t dare bash Elam, some around here living in denial that he was over drafted and have a dream he’s going to redeem himself at some point. 1 1 Quote

I think they are using him situationally. He's their man coverage specialist so to speak. He keeps playing decent I think he will see more and more field time as the 6th DB I also think they plan on replacing rasul with Elam next year Edit- wonder if we see him on the field again against KC to play on Worthy Edited November 3 by TBBills Fan Quote

Yet, when he plays he plays well (other than last year against JAX in London) and he makes big plays. Weirdest situation ever. I think Rasul and Benford are just THAT good. 1 Quote
Old Coot Posted November 3 Posted November 3 Elam is a man cover CB. That's what he played in college. McD's use a lot of zone and even pattern recognition so one side of the D may morph to fit the patterms being run. It's possible that Elam has trouble with the more complex coverages. 1 1 Quote

Edit: Holy moly, just watched the replay of the full broadcast. That is very weird. Wtf. There isn’t anyone with him. Yeah it felt like he was the runt of the team. Maybe he's not very social idk. finn Posted November 3 Posted November 3 Maybe some team would trade a package of Elam, Edwards, and Samuels for a third rounder. One can only dream... Quote

Still, you’d think they’d be all for their teammate coming up with that play given him never seeing the field, being thrust into the role and making a play. I saw Rasul pulling him up and running initially but never paid much attention after. Again, watching that replay it’s exactly like you said; awkward. Very. No one going with him, not even Douglas who picked him up and was directing him where to go… dude just bailed and went to the sideline. Not a single player went in that direction. All went to the sideline until right at the end when, and I might be wrong, it looked like the only ones coming to celebrate with him were Jamarcus Ingram (46) and Von (40). Whether a teammate is social or not shouldn’t be a reason to completely disregard the play that transpired. Quote

Just my take but Elam has caught up with the coverages. That's why he's on the field whenver we have an injury to Benford or Douglas. What he has been shaky in from time to time is run support or tackling. I think that too will come to him with work. He does have a knack for getting the ball from the other team and he certainly has all the physical tools. People want to label him good or bad because he's not a starter but was a 1st round pick but honestly I'd currently label him a good problem to have. We certainly ran a lot more man coverage today than I feel like I've seen before. The all22 will be interesting. Quote
Success Posted November 3 Posted November 3 For the record - Elam did not get "burned" on the long Hill completion. He played it pretty well - it was just a great throw and catch. 2 Quote
MJS Posted November 3 Posted November 3 Benford is just a lot better. And he is a great tackler for a CB. Quote
TFBillsfan Posted November 3 Posted November 3 Bills win with a 61 yard FG, and we quickly shift from Bass to Elam. Overall, thought he played a solid game. No penalties, gave up one play to Hill but was in solid position. Perfect throw from Tua. Recovered a fumble. Hill and Waddle were minimized today. Elam did what was asked of him and it’s great to have depth. We might want to shift our attention to the DL and LB if we’re trying to find something to pick at. Bills are 7-2, have a strangle hold on the AFCE, swept the MIA series and are currently the #2 seed. Enjoy the ride BillsMafia! 4 2 1 2 Quote

Offside Number 76 Posted November 3 Posted November 3 There is no mystery, riddle, or enigma. He isn't very good. Quote
