I agree about the suspension.

I don't think that Poyer's a dirty player, not at all. But the league put these rules in place to protect the receivers who truly are defenseless. The rules require the defensive players to recognize when players are defenseless and to adjust. Poyer, and the guy from the Lions, didn't do that.

The only way to assure that players won't take these shots to make them understand that there are serious consequences for taking them. If all the guy gets is a 15-yard penalty and maybe a fine (which all of them can afford), then guys will be making business decisions about whether to make the hit. In Poyer's case, for example, at that point in the game, he's thinking that that reception could cost them the game, so he'll take the chance.  Player's won't think that if they know the play will get them ejected and get them a one- or two-game suspension. Those hits will stop.

I mean, Keon's got maybe a concussion and maybe a broken wrist because Poyer decided not to protect him. Every DB in the league has to understand that if they expose a receiver those kinds of injuries, they are going to get whacked, hard.

Couple of thoughts.
1) As stated above, there certainly is recent precedent to eject a player for these types of hits. Like last nite.
2) Poyer is a repeat offender. Including his time with Bills.

So I think he deserves a suspension in addition to a fine.

The wrist injury was just bad luck and not relevant to any penalty, fine, or suspension fir roughness

That may be correct, but the point is that no one knows how a player may get injured when he's hit in a defenseless position. Could be his wrist, his knee, his head.

The refs need to be suspended.  I didn’t think it was possible to have a worse call than Epenesa roughing the passer penalty against Rodgers.  But then Rapp getting a personal foul for getting hit?  Then two phantom holding calls.

You’re forgetting the no contact roughing the passer against Kyler Murray…worst penalty since the Drayton Florence (I think) tapping his teammates helmet personal foul.  Arguably, 4 of the top 10 worst penalties called in the NFL were against the Bills.

I don’t think that was intentional. It was reckless.

I think Poyer was trying to knock the ball out of the receiver's hands but got there late. He wasn't a dirty player here so it's unlikely he became one when he moved on to Miami.

Dude is washed (as we saw last year), and cheap shots are his only way to maintain any level of relevance in the NFL

This is so incredibly weak and a cowardly take.

We watched this dude crunch everybody like this for 6 years, legit wall of fame potential for what he's done for this city.... and the second you see it the other way you're throwing low balls like this?

Dude at end of his career and its obvious to everyone but "cheap shots only way to stay relevant" is horse crap.  Poyer hit to dislodge, did not target, they hit helmets, but so wussy to act like he tried to spear or lower his head.

I would seriously question someone loyalty in real life if I heard a friend say this crap. Pure crap!

The injury sucks, it's football. We can't whine ohhh the league is flag football, immortalize a guy for doing anything to win here (like he tried here), and then cry when our guy gets hurt---playing football.

Wwwweeeeeaaaaakkkkk. Emotional. Take.

LOL, someone is certainly all up in their feels...

Poyer is NOT a Wall of Famer.  Good player here, until 2022, but he was downright bad - a liability, even - in 2023.

His hit on Coleman was cheap and dirty, same as his hit on Shakir in Week 2.  Maybe make a play on the ball, instead of being two steps too late, and delivering hits to the head?

I don't know about the friendship piece of that, but I'm with you.  He and Hyde go on the Wall of Fame in the new stadium together.

I thought his hit on Shakir was worth a penalty, but not a suspension. Poyer came in low and unfortunately Shakir was in a position where his head was also low, so it was helmet to helmet.

The hit on Coleman though, yikes. Poyer is late and launches himself upwards to make helmet to helmet contact while completely ignoring the ball. Absolutely worth a suspension. The NFL is pretty stingy on suspensions and might view Poyer costing his team the game as enough of a punishment.

A fine is a reasonable response.  Poyer's comment was sad, however.  "It was a clean hit, I aimed for the chest."  The video shows Poyer left his feet and clearly appeared to be aiming for the head.  A dirty play every day of the week.

Those two holding penalties in the Dolphins game are way up there... they just never happened... and of course the Epinesa RTP that even Rodgers says wasnt... just brutal officiating.

Love Jordan poyer. But that hit on Coleman was inexcusable. He should have been immediately ejected. I really hope the league suspends him for that. Possibly the worst helmet to helmet I have seen.

Agreed.

he launched himself.

The wrist injury was a direct result of his cheap targeting hit. He got his wrist and helmet in one hit. He absolutely should be suspended and fined extensively.

Dude, your season is on the line with that ball.

He has to attack it without mercy.

Getting his head too low is the only thing he did wrong.

True enough.  However, he was also guilty of headhunting in at least two plays I recall from the first game.  I am not sure if a suspension is warranted, but that hit was cheap and in my view, given the history from the other game, not unintentional.

Eh there's a lot of really good Bills players who are not on the wall

If they help deliver a super bowl sure...

They didn't even get us there... They are wall of very good

I agree in the first game he was headhunting to excess and possibly deserved a fine for it.

But when you're digging full tilt like that across a field, desperate to get to a spot to save a game, you are not in control of your body to the point where you can hit a moving target with a specific part of your body. You are just trying to hit everything you can with whatever you can and try to knock a ball loose.

I had no problem with the flag for his crown being out front, but suggesting he be suspended for selling out to make a game-saving play is a bridge too far for me.

I never thought Poyer was a dirty player but I’ve seen him take two reckless, unnecessary shots against Bills this year — Shakir and Coleman.  Truth be told, I just think he’s playing with a little more “juice” against the Bills and therefore crossed the line.
