Looking at Race for the #1 Seed

It may be a bit early to discuss, but we are basically at the season midpoint.

KC  7-0

BUF  6-2

I expect the AFC North teams to take each other out

KC Schedule

Unless the Bucs or Broncos win at Arrowhead, KC will be 9-0 coming to Orchard Park.

The only other challenging games on their schedule are PIT and HOU.

KC has a floor of 13 wins IMO.  Very likely they get to 14

Personally, I don't see a very good chance of the #1 Seed.

BAL having 3 losses already & HOU losing last night certainly helps though.

If we can win the next 2 games and beat KC to have the H2H Tiebreaker, we could have a legit shot at it

The first round bye is nice but as we saw last season, home field isn’t the end-all some portray it to be.  Kansas City was able to beat Buffalo and Baltimore in their building on consecutive weeks.    If you’re a good team, it doesn’t matter where you play.

So unless your team can’t play in winter weather, I don’t think it’s completely necessary.

Everyone says the Chiefs schedule is easy, but they could lose 3-4 games by the end (imo).  They're winning a lot of one-play games, and the percentages will catch up w/ them.

I still see them w/ the 1 seed, but I think it will still be up in the air heading into the last couple of weeks of the season.  We have to beat them, and probably lose no more than 1 the rest of the way.  Possible, but not probable.

Getting the 2 seed wouldn't be so bad if it means a team like the Ravens would play KC in the divisional.

I'm more worried about Baltimore. Playing them (potentially) in the playoffs would be tough. They already proved they can run it down our throats and in colder weather I bet they try to do the same. Our D line and LB's aren't built for the tough ground pounding that Balt is built around. KC isn't as tough that way.

I hope Beaner makes a move for a good DT to help shore the D line vs the run pounders. Or maybe... a good LB as I doubt Milano comes back as the same guy.

I think I heard them say last night that he’s expected back next Sunday

Will definitely help some, but they gotta figure out how to protect Stroud if they want him to finish the season.

I wouldn’t mind going to Houston in the Playoffs as it erases any worry of the game being a blizzard that becomes a coin toss game no matter who we play.

Plus, give me JA and this Offense indoors against them again.  Would love to see it.

I do think getting Baltimore at home is worth getting a higher seed than them.

Most likely is pretty strong lol. It's week 9. It's almost assuredly not going to come out that way. Injuries, and everything else can happen. Maybe the top 2 are pretty set, but still they are not. Everything else is just a guess at this point.

There’s a strong case for it even at the midway point of the season. The four division winners are crystallized to me. Pitt might put a wrench in that but I doubt it. So that leaves the three wildcard teams. Pitt and LAC looks to be there. Den might falter and Cincy could replace them. The AFC is so weak this year that you can tell very early who would be there.

I dont know if you understand what the word average means.  I mean maybe they dont look like a typical 7-0 team but average?

I agree with you. It’s not college football where the talent disparity is so large the best team just blows everyone out. The margins are so slim in the NFL. Despite injuries to key contributors KC still plugs along undefeated is impressive me.

I was going to say the exact same thing!!! Punch the ticket and beat the teams you play in the playoffs. Home field is not as advantageous as it once was.

That being said, let the Ravens or Texans face the Steelers in the first round... that's the best case scenario.

The Bills play crappy divisional teams which will help them.  Ravens and Steelers will beat eachother up, the Texans are by no means in good shape with their injuries.  I dont think that Houston get a better record than us - i think we are looking at either the 2nd or 3rd seed unless we run the table.

How quickly the posts change. For two years all we heard on here was just get KC at home in the playoffs and all will be OK.

But your point is well taken. Home field is an advantage but nowhere near an insurmountable advantage.

I’ve always said that crowds no longer know how to get loud anymore. With the invention of helmet communications fans should be loud right as the 40 second play clock is beginning not as the clock winds to disrupt the coach QB communication. 14 seconds that bad boy is cut off and with everyone going silent count it’s not worth it

Unfortunately the legend of this great home field advantage in Buffalo has waned. We lost to Burrow and Mahomes at home with our fans giving their best effort. Not even the elements seem to favor us anymore.  I think realistically we get the 2 seed. This team can keep their focus on the road. The key to this year's playoff success will fall on the health of our defense.

The Chiefs, Lions, Rams and 49ers all in a row for us is going to be tough.

I think we're 8-2 going into the KC game and have a great chance of beating them, I just think we drop 1-2 games later and the Chiefs won't drop more than 1 game.

I think we lose to the Dolphins, the 'fire McDermott' chants start again, and those same critics spell doom and gloom and a one and out playoff appearance if they don't lose the division to the Jets.  Fickle fans here. 🤪

Bills at Chiefs for AFCCG. Look for lots of holding not called for KC and us not being able to breathe without getting flagged.

This is a true and unfortunate reality.  The league is madly in love with KC and their multiple narratives.  The revenue generated by the Chiefs and the Swift storyline is undeniable. I think for a 4th time we're on a collision course with KC. Probably in the AFCCG. And yes there will be several calls go against us. Money will always beat out conventional fairness.

The broncos have been playing good football, and the chiefs have come down to the wire where one play not going their way would have lost them the game on at least 3 different games.

I wouldn't be surprised if their luck runs out on that for a couple of games this year.  I do think the Bills would have to beat them and go 14 and 3 to do it.
