Based on the thread on here, that Mario Williams thread was epic. Probably the greatest topic thread on the history of this board.

i believe that’s when most of us discovered F5.

I still remember the rumors of the dinner at Tempo, and seeing Wannstedt escort MW in the airport!

BBMB was absolute insanity as well.

I have two #94 jerseys, I hate the way things ended with him.

I wasn't using the site at the time but I've heard that as well.  I was also very psyched when the Bills signed him.

His first year he was all right in 2012.  In 2013 & 2014 he had good years under Marrone & Schwartz.  Then in 2015 he kind of regressed when rex was the coach.

During his time here he was still better than Von so far.  But I mean as you alluded with the epic threads and I think he had the highest contract for a defense player at the time......  I expected a generational type talent.  My unpopular opinion is he was kinda disappointing overall from expectations.

Mario was great when he wanted to be..he also had a lot of help on that line.

when the D changed and he couldn't just rush the passer he checked out.

This really highlights how stupid it was to hire Rex as head coach. We had an elite pass-rusher and a dominant 4-3 Defense, and we hire a guy who's only plan is to scrap our current defensive scheme & spend 2 years wasting good players and having bad results, while never even getting the correct personnel to run his scheme.

this basically the futile rinse and repeat theme we carried on with for 20 years.

everything that was good that we accomplished under poor coaches, we brought in new ones that

did a comeplete 180 with their own brand of under achievement.

they then proceeded to throw all the good out with the bad.

Mario, he was still in his prime, not even close to me.

Completely agree but the pre injury Von and 24 pre suspension Von has been elite.

Praying he keeps it up and is truly the closer

The Mario Williams signing was stupid. Spending big in FA on a pass rusher when the team doesn't have a QB is something that bad teams do. He could have had 20 sacks and that team still misses the playoffs with EJ Manuel.

I don't get the thinking here. Where else were the Bills going to spend their money? They weren't going to spend it on EJ Manuel and they weren't going to sign or trade for an elite QB (they're basically never available anyway if they are elite). I don't see anything wrong with spending it on one of the premier positions in the league. Look at the Steelers, they've been relevant these last few seasons almost entirely because of an elite edge player.

Signing Mario was just a stunt to sell seats

Maybe it was but his first three seasons here he was exceptional and only JJ Watt and Justin Houston outsacked him across those three years in the entire league.

Then Rex thought he'd make a good coverage player.

Technically, it's too early to judge until Von's time here is finished, but as of right now it's Mario by a very, very wide margin.

Not sure how you compare Von to Mario when Von has been injured or suspended for most of his Bills tenure, whereas Mario pretty much piled up the sacks and wrecked people week in/out while here.

Fitz was still quarterback when Mario got signed to that deal.

2012 was probably the most disappointing season I had as a Bills fan.  At least today winning the AfC East seems a given.

IF Von makes important plays (sacks, forced fumbles, pressures) in the playoffs, especially against the Chiefs, and we win the Super Bowl, he will overtake Mario in my book.

Mario Williams, had the Bills not changed defensive strategies (from Jim Schwartz to Rex Ryan), both he (and Marcel Dareus) would have had longer careers in Buffalo. Williams played four years of his contract and missed just one game.

Right now, Von Miller is on the Top Ten list of this team's all time worst free agent signings - up there with expensive mediocrity like Derrick Dockery and Langston Walker.
