Apology accepted, next time I'll want an entire thread tho.

If he's sincere about his desire to leave, then maybe he's be willing to rework his contract, give up his remaining guaranteed money (probably about $800k), and hit the road.  We could use that money to sign Hyde, he could go wherever he wants, and away we go.

I remember Coach commented on this early in the season. He basically said they trust Hamlin more, he's been here longer understands the system  and is making the calls for the secondary. Something to the effect of a learning curve installing Edwards in the same roll etc. McD knows what he wants in his DB's and he has a pretty good track record there.

Its unfortunate that there isn't more athleticism with Hamlin and Rapp as a Tandem.  Its a place I think the D is vulnerable and will get exposed against better teams (and was against Ravens in both run and pass game).  I wonder if McD would be likely to plug and play any player that they would acquire in a trade at Safety even if they gave Edwards his wish and acquired another player.  They did immediately insert Douglas into the line up, but Safety on this defense is different than corner, so its hard to say.  I think it is a place the defense could be upgraded a lot and could make the difference from in the pack of contenders to the primary challenger for the AFC to the Chiefs.  Right now the Offense is where it needs to be, but the D is the big question.  McD will always put a capable D on the field, but its also been the achilles heel of the team getting over the hump, and I don't think this iteration is the one that can do it without another piece or two, and the glaring one is at safety.

I've not watched enough film of Ja'marcus Ingram to know if this is a good idea, but he seemed to play well earlier this season and he seems like he could be a good fit to move to safety because the nickel CB position does seem a like an easier transition to safety than boundary CB.  I really like his ability to blitz and track the ball.  He's also capable of playing man if they want and is a pretty decent tackler from what I've seen (again I may be wrong upon review of All 22).  His 40 wasn't blazing, and is the same as Hamlin's, but I think he is noticeably quicker on the field.  Maybe it is just wishful thinking.

I think it is wishful thinking. Hamlin isn't so bad that we need to bring guys over from another position to replace him.

Every WGR caller with a ham sandwich in their mouth wants to replace him, but no one seems to be able to point to a solid reason why. We're 6-2. the safeties have not been an issue, our world class DB coach that happens to be the Bills HC seems to think he's the man for the job. I trust him with the secondary.

thought the same thing re Ingram. He seems like a bigger and more physical DB. Strikes me as a natural fit for safety.

I mean, if I was him I’d want the same thing. Guy was brought in to start and he doesn’t even get active on game day. It doesn’t even make sense. I don’t know why this coach always does that to certain players. It was like that with TJ Yeldon. The guy was the type of player we were missing on offense he wouldn’t even get a uniform on game day.

I get your point about rather having great corners than safeties.  But... In 2021, the Bills led the NFL in pass defense, giving up only 2,771 yards (163 ypg). In 2024, we're 17th in pass defense so far, giving up 208 ypg.

Maybe with Taron back and Hamlin & Rapp learning to play together in their new roles as starters, our statistical performance will improve.  Von's return could help as well. I'd love to see us hold opposing QBs to 163 ypg again.

Yes, many people evaluating the Bills defense forget that Taron has only played 4 games this year and that Terrel Bernard has only played 5 (if you count the Arizona game where he was injured in the first quarter).

Neither played against Baltimore and considering they're 2 of our best players and the dropoff to their substitutes is substantial, their absences in that game were huge.

The way Derrick Henry ran through our defense psychologically makes people wish we were bigger and tougher on D but both of these players are strong at defeating blocking schemes, being assignment sound, and fitting up against the run. And our pass defense is night and day better when they're on the field.

The only games in which both Bernard and Taron played the entirety of the games was against the Jets and the Titans.

And I hope we are up three scores first half and they can take a break second half.

I didn't say he was bad, I said he wasn't the piece we needed at the place we need it most against the better teams.  He's playing fine and we aren't getting killed by Hamlin or Rapp's play against most teams, but there are noticeable weaknesses in the defense because they have to play deep and there is a lot more room for QBs to work underneath.  I'd also say that Hamlin is not great against the run, not because he is a poor tackler, but because he can find himself out of position to make the play because he isn't quick athletically or in reading where the play is going unless he is deep.  The point about Taron Johnson and Bernard is right, those two players cure some of that issue because the are great in coverage and against the run.

The door can hit him in the rear on the way out.  The dude is acting like he is actually this amazing starter and he is not.

2023 Edwards Started 17 games, 51 tackles. 32 were solo tackles with 1 INT.

2024 Hamlin played in 8 games, 47 tackles. 34 are solo with 2 int

I no longer have premium PFF but i know by FACT that Hamlin putting up a better FF score this year than Edwards did last year.

Can not be great at every position in todays NFL.  Hamlin is just doing good enough that starts him over Edwards.

Edwards cap hit is 1.7 mil more than Hamline.  Edwards only concern is, is starting games this season... And anyone that knows football..

Edwards value is low because he wont start with many teams in the NFL.  That being said, Nor will Hamlin but Hamlin doing just a good

enough job to be the man.

I am also going to say this, God forbid a S gets injured... there is no better asset then a guy like him hungry to prove a point. I doubt we do trade him. he can ask all he wants.

He is competing with Cole Bishop, a rookie, for snaps not Hamlin and has not been active in a game.  He basically is an expensive practice squad player.

Yes this coach appears to not play the worst player at certain positions and keeps them inactive.  Do I know that he's the worst, absolutely not as haven't seen him play, but neither has anyone else.  Oh wait the coaches do every week in practice, maybe that means something??    It doesn't take much though to figure out that maybe the reason is simply he's the worst of the position group.  Unless you think we should keep 5 S active on game day and sit someone else, it's simply a numbers game and he's the odd man out likely because he's the worst in the coaches eyes.  Are they thrilled with Hamlins play, likely not, but feel it's still better than Edwards/

Wouldn't be surprised if Beane has a tentative trade worked out, just waiting for this Sundays game to end, assuming no other safeties get hurt or Hamlin or Rapp completely stink, he gets traded this week.  Or may decide keeping him as an insurance policy is the best option as others pointed out.

I could be wrong but I think Bishop has only been playing Rapps SS position. Supposedly S is interchangeable in this D but seems to me Rapp has been playing strong and Hamlin free.
