Why cant they just keep it over the antenna?" Times are changin, gramps. He had a rough start this season too. But has started to show steady improvement. Maybe getting that first career INT under his belt helped him settle into the position. Still think we can do better, but I'm not calling for his head like I was in September. Hamlin and Rapp don't make me miss Poyer and Hyde (in their prime) but they don't have me hitting panic buttons either. Still, I do worry about this... The goal is to win a Super Bowl. We used to have an elite back end (Poyer, Hyde, Tre). I like our current CBs but I don't think our secondary, overall, is as good as it once was. As I quoted before: 2024-2024 Free Agent Mike Edwards signed a 1 year , $2,800,000 contract with the Buffalo Bills, including $1,000,000 signing bonus, $1,600,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $2,800,000. In 2024, Edwards will earn a base salary of $1,240,000, a signing bonus of $1,000,000 and a workout bonus of $50,000, while carrying a cap hit of $2,800,000 and a dead cap value of $1,600,000. So what about his integration into this defense is holding him back going into week nine of the season? Is Hamlin actually better overall, or is it that they are basically tied but Hamlin has been here longer, and or they feel emotionally attached to him, because of the dying on the field thing?? Or he isn’t very good and, although it’s a cheap contract, it was a not so great signing..,?

In fact I remember Hill running across the face of them with less than 2 min left in KC and giving KC the lead. That was before the 13 seconds, but you get the point. I remember against the Jags last year, they got beat in both the run and pass. Poyer looks like crap in Miami. Look you don't need Great Safety play to win a super Bowl, just good, solid play with guys who know where to be and are always there. We NEED better DL play, that is what helps get us to Super bowls. 3

Yep we need another DL that can help with the run and get pressure up the middle. 1

Belichick mentioned that the Bills secondary overall is slow and that is very true. Schematically it limits them, basically they have to be very sound overall without taking much chances against great QBs, Mahomes, Jackson, Burrow, Stroud, the like we'll see in playoffs. They tried to change that by drafting Elam and Bishop, but neither of them is able to get on the field yet. The best path for now, in my opinion, is to improve DL play. There is no Chris Jones to be had in trade market. But a Calais Campbell type may help a great deal. 2

I wondered last year if his spot on the roster was merely PR and sympathy. I had doubts he'd make the squad this year. But, to my eyes, he's playing at another level this year. Not Pro Bowl. Not elite. But decent. He seems to understand the defense and mostly be in the right place at the right time. That's a good thought, but I think everyone started dumping on him after the first few weeks, not before then.

I don’t agree with that whatsoever. My guess is nobody thought Hyde was that great of a tackler while he was a CB in GB. That worked out pretty well

If Hamlin plays better in training camp, some of which they may not have anticipated, then the player they signed during offseason is superfluous unless there are injured. If Hamlin has not progressed then rookie Cole Bishop had a chance to supplant him in camp or preseason. Unfortunately Mike Edwards has been frequently injured and unable to show he is not even better than Cole Bishop to get snaps hence "break glass when needed" box has not been broken. Waiting for complaints that Mike White has not supplanted Mitchell Trubisky as QB. Hello Saxum, noticed you posting here as of late, is a question now a complaint? a simple straightforward description of his performance while a Bill would have been the preferred response, your complaining about my question is quite ironic wouldn’t you say? lol, nuthin but luv,

I’d rather have two great corners and 2 mid safeties than the opposite. Our corners were bad- Levi and Dane were our corners in the playoffs most years. Now we have one of the best corner duos in the league. Poyer and Hyde were great for a few years but our safety play had declined the previous 2 seasons. while I was scared of rapp (and I’m awaiting a big blunder from him) and not happy about Damar starting they’ve been about as good (if not better) playing safety as Dane and Levi played corner. i think the secondary level of play is actually better now, because Taron continues to improve. The secondary may seem lesser due to Cam being continuously picked on

I'm guessing there are some others who are taking a bit longer than me to realize the 2024 edition of Damar is different than older editions. 1

In 2021, the Bills led the NFL in pass defense, giving up only 2,771 yards (163 ypg). In 2024, we're 17th in pass defense so far, giving up 208 ypg. Maybe with Taron back and Hamlin & Rapp learning to play together in their new roles as starters, our statistical performance will improve. Von's return could help as well. I'd love to see us hold opposing QBs to 163 ypg again.

I'm rooting for him because he's on our team and I want everyone to do well. But it's apparent that we have different views of what a good player looks like. I appreciate your perspective. But I think the only reason he’s playing is because he’s where he’s supposed to be. He’s a sound tackler but clearly is not super athletic or strong is coverage. I simply assume he’s playing because he’s currently the most reliable. Between Edwards and Bishop I had zero expectation that he would be the starter. They were both hurt in pre season and that’s been it 🤷🏻♂️
