In regards to the below thread @Roundybout started relating to Bills WR lack of separation.  I think an easy test of whether that actually matters or not could be decided if at this point in time, if people would rather have Xavier Worthy who is undeniably a better separator than Coleman.   According to next gen stats Worthy's avg separation is 3.6 to Keon's 2.2.   I suspect most people after half a season of play to evaluate would rather keep Coleman over Worthy but let's let the votes speak for themselves.

Worthy has a skill set that we don't have right now but I suspect he's more of a 1 trick pony. Coleman can be more of a complete WR that sticks around in the league. To answer your question, no

My post wasn’t a “Coleman vs. Worthy” post. I did not like the pick, but he’s shown skills that have been sorely lacking on our team - a big jump ball catcher.

My post was discussion of a general concern that our corps as a whole still doesn’t separate well, so it’s on Josh to be very accurate and Brady to scheme them up better.

Now, the separation will certainly improve when Cooper is involved more, but right now it’s not great.

Nabers is the only rookie I’d definitely swap Coleman for, I’d need to be convinced to trade him for BT or MHJ but I could probably get there with the right argument.

I've always viewed Cooper as a good route runner with some good contested catch ability, not a true separator.   If we're putting any stock in these stats, Cooper's yards of separation is only 2.8 which would put him in the bottom half of the league for starting WRs and 3rd on the Bills.

Interestingly enough Kalil Shakir is currently ranked 9th in the league with an average separation of 4.3.

Absolutely not.

That said, we could use a guy like that.. a guy like Darius Slayton would be tremendously helpful to round out the WR room.

I wouldn’t have drafted Worthy, let alone trade for him now. Despite Samuels not working out at this point. We have enough off ball receivers anyway.

Yes we do still need a WR who can take the cover off the defense, but we have needed for ages a WR who can win 50/50 balls.  Coleman looks to be that player.

As I've written before, if Samuel can comeback healthy, I'd love to see the Bills use his speed to go for a deep ball or two.  Yes, I know that's not how he has been used in the past, but that is really the only role available on the Bills after the Cooper acquisition.

The Bills now have two good boundary receivers in Cooper and Coleman.  Cooper the vet who gets separation and Coleman the rookie who makes the tough catches.  We have the best slot receiver in football in Shakir (is that even debatable anymore?).  We also have 3 backs who are good at catching the ball out of the backfield and a pass catching TE capable of playing any role asked of him and even he has a capable backup with blocks the run well.  So what role in the offense is left to Samuel?  Gadget plays and deep throws.
