When it comes to an OBJ or a Johnson off the street with what they've shown on field (and in the locker room in Johnson's case) or elevating someone from their Practice Squad who's been with the team for at least a year and knows the offense - I imagine they'll just promote someone.

They started the season Super Bowl aspirations.  If they want to reach that goal, they should be desperate for something.  Watching them the last month or so does t look like a Super Bowl team. 
 

If they aren’t desperate for a WR, they should be desperate for OL help. At this point in the season, solid contributors aren’t really sitting on their couches.  I hate the person but it may be worth the roll of the dice for the remaining few weeks to se if he can help achieve their goal.

With Diggs and Dell out, they have Collins and a bunch of #4 and # 5 guys. Robert Woods is essentially done, Xavier Hutchinson had a huge opportunity early in the year when Collins was out and couldn't get open, Metchie has had small flashes but not really done a whole lot illness notwithstanding.

 

Makes sense to pick up a guy like Johnson and hope he can recapture a little bit of that Steelers magic he had on basically a couple of week contract. They are going nowhere if everyone is doubling Collins and the other guys are the only options.

They have nothing to lose so might as well go for it. But if the best Quarterback in the league (Hi, DeMeco) can't get anything out of him, I'm not sure what he's expecting from Stroud and co.

Ryans basically stated Jackson was MVP in his pre-game interview, hence the bracketed "Hi DeMeco".
