SoonerBillsFan Posted October 29 Posted October 29 Venables is in over his head, No OL, No QB and all but 1 of our top 4 WR's has soft tissue injuries? Not since the days of Gibbs, Schellenberger and Blake did I think I would have to say, we suck. 44 million buy out, but I am hearing boosters are getting the money ready. In this time of NIL, we cant afford portal losses and loss of recruits, I think a move needs to be made. Someone talk me off my ledge please! 1 1 Quote

I mean you guys had 20+ years of elite coaching/recruiting stability. Even Lincoln Riley who has some mixed reviews is a hell of a recruiter and has solid programs year in and year out. Now you hired a turd. On top of that needing to rebuild vs the SEC. Plenty of storied programs in coaching hell for a very long time. I hope that isn't your fate. 1 Quote

I disagree with that Venables was by far the best choice.. literally getting a consensus top five national player who's a quarterback.. Arnold... And him being the biggest fraud in Oklahoma football history is a much bigger part of why you're struggling He was supposed to be Baker Mayfield on steroids.. he literally didn't even make it five games into his rs freshman year So then you had to throw a true freshman to the wolves who was not ready.. your season was already over there But Brett.. is the only coach who has been able to create a defense non sec that has been able to stop Nick saban's Alabama offense in a national championship game Holding them to 14... He also held hurts to like 140 passing yards in their 35-31 Natty win Unless saban is playing Georgia.. Brett is the only one to get results Oklahoma's defense is still really good... You just had the biggest fraud at QB I thought Jackson Arnold was going to be a Heisman trophy winner Edited October 30 by Buffalo716 Quote

Half of their plans got gutted when Caleb Williams bolted to USC They literally lost a Heisman trophy college Superstar who they had for two more seasons... That put them in scramble mode to get Dillon Gabriel, who is a really good college quarterback who was prone to some bad games I did expect Gabriel to play really well again for Oregon because this is his sixth year of college football he should dominate on that alone But his play and stats were more aligned to Spencer rattler.. and he doesn't even have the arm strength of rattler.. and he was ran out of town in Oklahoma ... Gabriel did play a lot better in 23 and beat Texas so they will always respect that... But they were ready to get rid of him because Arnold was supposed to be a superstar Oklahoma could have won a national championship with Caleb Williams and that defense in 2023.. they were already really good with Gabriel and those two players aren't even on the same stratosphere But losing the future Heisman while subsequently having a bust for a top five national player is tough to overcome and all couple years span Oklahoma football will be fine tho If Jackson Arnold was as advertised they would be really good this year cuz their defense is tough Edited October 30 by Buffalo716 Quote
ArdmoreRyno Posted October 31 Posted October 31 (edited) 1996: Twister was released in theaters. OSU, OU and Tulsa went a combined 12-21, none with a winning record. 2024: Twisters was released. OSU, OU and Tulsa have a combined 10-14 with no winning record. As an Oklahoma State fan, alum and season ticket holder... I expected OSU to end up in the Playoffs. We returned practically EVERYONE. PFF (preseason) #1 OL, #1 RB, top 10 LB corp, top 15 WR group. We suck ass. We both suck this year. I didn't see OU with a winning season. My youngest goes to Ole Miss and I follow them closely (I was actually at the OU/Ole Miss game last weekend). I knew OU would struggle with all they lost on the OL and having a brutal SEC schedule. Did I expect them to have the same number of SEC wins as OSU? No. But man. Edited October 31 by ArdmoreRyno 1 Quote

I said OSU or BYU would win the Big 12 this year...damn. I am with you I don't know ow WTH is going on with OSU. Being an okie I root for OSU if they aren't playing OU,so I hoped you guys would win it. OU's problem is the HC,venables was hired a s a name to soothe over fans from The Riley screwing. I didn't like either of our QB's when they were recruited, Venables did crap on getting an OL together while letting 3 really good OL leave via the portal. I don't know ow WTH is the issue with " soft tissue injuries" with 4 of our top 5 WR. A good buddy of mine said "it must be bruised vaginas" 😀 🤣. Quote

Both quarterbacks who played this year were elite 11 finalists with scholarship offers from major schools lol Alabama and Michigan offered Hawkins Jr ... Arnold was literally considered a top five player in the country for any position... Nobody thought he would be a complete bust... He was a consensus five-star quarterback that every major School wanted Any school would have taken those kids at 18 years old... You are literally the only one who would dismiss an elite 11 quarterback while they're being recruited lol You also didn't like Caleb Williams Edited November 3 by Buffalo716 Quote

SoonerBillsFan Posted November 11 Author Posted November 11 I'm hearing behind the scenes that the 44 mill buyout of Venables contract is not an issue. They have to address him immediately after the LSU game to not lose recruiting and mitigate losing a ton of players via transfer. Quote
CaseyatBat Posted November 11 Posted November 11 I think both Oklahoma schools are in for a long period of decline and their fanbases need to adjust their expectations with Venables and Gundy. The state itself doesn't have top talent, you clearly have to draw players from Texas in order to succeed. In the past that hasn't been a huge issue with everyone in the Big12 and no NIL. Now you got Texas & A&M both in the SEC grabbing those players from you and NIL opens up deep pockets like Oregon, Ohio St., Miami, Tennessee to steal away Texas players like never before. college sports is just starting to change and in a few short years the "blue bloods" are going to be different programs than before. Oklahoma & Oklahoma State both will just be "another program", similar to how Nebraska declined from a powerhouse to a mid-low level program. Pissing on Venables or Gundy and thinking a change there is all you need is misguided Quote
Bill from NYC Posted November 17 Posted November 17 You know more about the team than I do, but their schedule was absolutely brutal. I have a feeling that they really might not be as bad as you think. Please, name me a team that could stand up to that schedule. They play Alabama next week and I don't know what the point spread will be, but I have a feeling it will be approx. 17 and I think this is far too high. Milroe ranges from great to frustratingly mediocre and I would not lay big points to Oklahoma. Jmo. Quote
