SoCal Deek Posted October 28 Posted October 28 I bring this up every year around this time. I’ve often thought the NFL should go to a league-wide Bye Week at this point in the season. It’d give every team the chance to regroup and heal from injuries along with allowing newly acquired trade deadline free agents to acclimate to their new teams. They could even work in the international games on the week before, during, or after so as to minimize the impact and competitive advantage caused by jet lag. The fans would get a mid-season bye for Halloween and family time during an ever elongated season. And most years this week would be the World Series. Besides, I absolutely hate the fact with a staggered bye everyone has to look at the Standings with a bit of a squinted eye. 4 1 1 Quote

I’m not sure what weather has to do with it. Every team gets a bye at some point during prime football weather. Not to mention that more and more stadiums are indoors. And my question is whether fans think it'd be a good idea. Heck the League just changed the entire look of kick-offs (an actual part of the game)! Is it so hard to imagine a tweak in the regular season schedule? Turk, it wouldn't extend the season for a week. Every team gets a bye week now. Oh I guess that's true, all teams would have a bye the same week...but it would create a situation with no football for an entire week during the year and I doubt the networks or the NFL want that. With that being said, you could run 5 games (Thursday, 3 Sunday and a Monday) and then give all of those teams the previous or next week off. Maybe the Mid-Season Bye is spread throughout the League over these TWO weeks. During those two weeks all International Games would be scheduled (even mid-week), thus reducing/eliminating the competitive advantage of travel. Following those two weeks, the entire NFL would be back on track with every team having played 9 games and make their final bye-less push to the post-season. 2 Quote

dma0034 Posted October 28 Posted October 28 It's just a smarter thing to do a second bye week. I'm telling you we will see a 20 week season with 2 bye weeks at some point. The season will start the weekend before Labor Day and the SuperBowl will be the day before President's Day. 1 Quote
