Eastport bills
2 hours ago, boyst said: I am glad the Bills won. I always appreciate when they win but have noticed are something now like 17-3 when the lead is over 7 points while barely .500 when the point differential is less than a score. That is because we do not know how to win in close ball games, we don't know how to be tough when there is a monkey on our back, to power through the challenges, and just win. Instead of us going in there and blowing these lesser teams out we need to work our depth players in more to get them reps, work on different plays and schemes which may let the other team stay in the game. This will keep the game score closer and allow us to learn to be tough. This will give us no other option but to take a few shots to the face and still have to fight. If you’re thinking that a blowout road win over a tough opponent could result in a universally positive reaction forget it, not on this forum. This team is becoming something very different from teams before and their obvious shortcomings. First, their offensive makeup and mentality is run effectively to set up the QB with the best arm talent in football. With 2 quality TEs, 3 complimentary talented wideouts and an OL that is getting better as the season progresses, our passing game is tremendous. Cook, Davis and Johnson are perfect for how Brady wants to call plays. Momentum is starting to define this team and their confidence level. Sadly the pre snap penalties are still a problem and our kicker can’t be trusted in a big spot, but if you’re being objective, this team has a different look and already other than the clunker in Baltimore, they were better than their opponent in every game. ImpactCorey
Why stop there? This team should miss the playoffs for over a decade to get a fire in their bellies and fight their way back into it.

Buffalo won 4 out of their last 5 games last year by one score. 6, 2, 3, and 7 points. They were literally playing for their post-season hopes and one loss could’ve stopped them. I know it’s a slightly different roster, but McDermott & Allen both proved they could win in a dog fight. Honestly, what are they supposed to do? Let Seattle run the score up so we can win by 3 instead of 21? I know he’s been pretty okay this season, but I am still petrified of putting my hopes on Tyler Bass and I think the Bills are too. I think that’s precisely why they are trying to demolish their opponent.

Matt_In_NH
Your initial premise is correct and there is a lot of data that shows the Bills are overall very dominant but not as good as they should be for a dominant team in close games. That IS the difference between them and the Chiefs. However, suggesting you keep it close and play backups is absurd, that is not how you improve there. Orlando Buffalo
This thread is odd to me, we went to the West coast, which usually is the kiss of death for us. We played in a loud stadium vs a good team and had a 31-3 lead with 10 minutes to go despite having a bad rain storm during middle of game. I am not sure what other version of toughness we are looking for

I don’t think so either because you put yourself in a position where a little bad luck could cause a loss. I do think there is an option in the middle though. Take yesterday’s game. We’re up 34-10 and have the ball. Seattle can’t stop the clock. We knelt. Fine, but what if we fumble one on purpose with say 23 seconds left. Let them get a fumble 6. 8 seconds to run it back so 15 left. 31-17. Now try to get the onside kick. Kneel. Call time out with one second left and fumble 6 it again. 31-24 and we win a close game. If we give up the onside kick, just play enough D so they have no time left and let them score on the last play. Same result.

Mike in Horseheads
Seems if you lay down and let other teams back in games then your going to investigated by the NFL and FBI for potentially fixing games scores

HomeskillitMoorman
I would say I agree that we have some issues in tight games...mostly for me because of McD.... But I heavily disagree that we should "let" teams keep the score close. There's nothing tough about that. You always want the mindset of stomping your foot on the other team's throat.
