Why was Greg Rousseau not credited with a sack on Geno's 4th down slip

I believe Rousseau was the defender that touched Geno Smith down when he tripped on the 4th down goal line try. Wouldn't that be credited as a sack for Groot?  He didn't receive credit for a sack on the play. Confused me

Its a scoring issue I don't really understand, but it's considered a "run" play so it just goes down as a tackle for loss.

He does get the TFL (an underrated stat!).

Someone help me out.  When Geno Smith got tripped up on the 4th and goal play and went down behind the line of scrimmage, Rousseau appeared to be the first to touch him afterwards.  How come he wasn't credited with a sack? What am I missing here?

It was counted as a rushing attempt, so it counts as a tackle for loss. They don't know for sure it was going to be a pass play, so it counts as a QB run play. It is what it is, but it is by the book.

Probably not sure it was a pass play. (TFL on the QB on running plays not counted as sacks)

Maybe just because he’s behind the LOS doesn't make it a pass attempt. It could just be a TFL because it might have been a run play?  🤷‍♂️

So I wonder if that would make a designed QB run a sack if behind the line. Seemed like that's always been a sack. Idk. Interesting tho

Nope. Those are counted as TFLs.
