VW82 Posted October 28 Posted October 28 (edited) PPG Allowed: Chargers 13.0 Steelers 14.4 Broncos 15.0 Bears 17.0 Chiefs 17.6 Bills 18.3 We haven't played stiff competition, and it doesn't look as good in some of the advanced stats. But we've also had multiple key contributors out for extended time. This defense is better than they've been portrayed by NFL media and around here. Discuss. Edited October 28 by VW82 4 3 Quote
JESSEFEFFER Posted October 28 Posted October 28 That's 5 road games out of their 8 played too. 6 1 Quote
Magox Posted October 28 Posted October 28 I don’t believe our run defense is as bad as it has shown this year. A few tweaks here and there and the run defense will be a middle of the road sort of D. If Milano can come back to his old self and Carter continues to ascend, Vonn continues to play as he was with Bernard doing his thing then this defense will be legit come playoff time 3 1 Quote
billsfan89 Posted October 28 Posted October 28 Defense being banged up makes it very impressive. But what is making it more impressive to me is that the defense has made some clutch plays. Week 1 the defense shut the door on the Cardinals. Cards had the ball down 6 just under 2 minutes with 2 or 3 timeouts (I don't remember but they had at least 2 timeouts) and several times last season this team (first Pats game comes to mind) would let up a TD in that circumstance. But week 1 the defense forced a turnover on downs to close out the game. The only reason this team had a chance against the Texans was due to the defense forcing two 4th quarter turnovers. Against the Jets the Bills defense came up with that huge Taron INT to put the offense in position to ice the game. That's three games where the defense came up clutch which was not happening a lot last season. 6 Quote
dma0034 Posted October 28 Posted October 28 Wonder if Von Miller is ready to go after his 4 game suspension. I will say the biggest weaknesses thus far are the LBs and DEs creating pressure. Imagine if the Defense is 100% in the playoffs. Quote

Von getting a 4 week rest early on in the season might actually help him. He's older and still coming off a serious injury less than 2 years ago. He got to ramp up and gain his confidence back in the first 4 games. Weeks 1-4 Von while maybe not 100% back to his 2022 form looked about 90% there. Now's he had a chance to stay fresh and rested and he's gonna get 3 games before another bye week. Seems like a great schedule for an older player. 8 3 1 Quote

We have played 3 div leaders at the time in Bal, hou, and sea…all on the road charges have played….raiders, panthers, Steelers, chiefs, broncos, cards, saints. 1 Quote
zow2 Posted October 28 Posted October 28 I’ve ripped on Damar plenty, but i thought he was solid today. Yeah a penalty but at least he was trying to stay “sticky” with his man. The D overall played great. 2 2 Quote
y2zipper Posted October 28 Posted October 28 They're much better against the run than stats indicate, which is a product of the Ravens obliterating it. My concern with the defense are these: 19th in pressure rate 13th in sacks 16th in Pass Rush Win Rate Middle of the road sort of pass rush, don't get pressure consistently, and as people have said, light competition. They were impressive today because Seattle basically had to go to 2 minute offense to even move the ball, but I'd like them to trade for a pass rush DE. 2 Quote

When it comes to the secondary I trust McD, if he feels like Demar can execute the system I think he will do just fine. Quote

The Bills have missed some of their better D-line players. Von has been suspended the past 4 games, Ed Oliver has missed 2 games, and there's been a few others that have missed some time. I think if this team is healthy it has a quality pass rush. Quote

Joe Ferguson Posted October 29 Posted October 29 We had the #1 defense in the 13 seconds season. 1 Quote
MasterStrategist Posted October 29 Posted October 29 When we get into the final 4-6 games, I'm hoping our pass rush has figured things out. Not to say they've been bad, but average won't cut it when we're playing the elite QBs. Between Ed/Groot/Von/AJE, be great if one could emerge as a gamechanger come playoffs. I won't count out Solomon or Carter either. Both have the ability, and I think Solomon can surprise if given more snaps. 1 Quote
VW82 Posted October 29 Author Posted October 29 (edited) Other than CB, the last thing I'm worried about with our D is our pass rush. We have good pass rushers, just need them to all play. Our size defending bigger teams is another story, but overall we're looking solid. Edited October 29 by VW82 Quote

Otherwise they need really good coverage and time for the rush to grind its way there. only time we blitz is - these horrible delayed zone blitzes with safeties (cam or Hamlin) that are just awful. And they drop groot or AjE Quote

The key to pass rush under McD has always been about having waves of fresh bodies. We haven't had that yet this year. Quote

Sorry don’t see immediate wins / gotta have it get to the QB rushes - with anyone but Von Quote
