Beane wont come out and say it, but I bet you they weighed the injury concern with Diggs.  His route running is not easy on the knees.  He has been remarkably healthy all these years.  Someone getting up in age, with his abrupt start and stop and changing of direction, it wears on the ligaments.

To the contrary, I believe he had like no guarantees left after we dealt him. So getting this year fully guaranteed was the correct move.

IMO these are almost always minor, unnoticed injuries that get a little worse, a little worse, then BAM! But I have no idea, just guessing. 

It’s possible players over train some muscles and have an imbalance. Christian Watson said he kept tearing his hamstring because one leg was stronger than the other.

I'd wager his agent advised him against redoing his contract with the Texans. I would have liked to be a fly on the wall when they speak/spoke after the injury. 🤔

Yes this is correct.  I was actually wrong myself about this yesterday and someone cleared up my misunderstanding of it for me.  I had mistakenly thought that when Beane restructured him that it gave him another big guarantee still next year.  But the poster who cleared that up and explained to me what really happened stated he only had $3.5M guaranteed next year and nothing GTD the 2 years after that.  Houston took his $3.5M guarantee from next year and added it to this year boosting his salary up this year an additional $3.5M.

Next year he only had 3.5 mil guaranteed. It was basically a one year deal anyway. They just moved that money to this year. He would be getting cut now with this injury anyway

It really made sense for the Texans perspective too. They gave Diggs more upfront to keep him happy, and brought him to a one year deal so he was in a contract year for extra motivation/good behavior. So if he crushed it and got big money in the offseason, they would be in the comp pick formula too.

 

Of course, the best laid plans. Trade and contract rework now looks like a disaster. He will get a Tre White-type deal 1 year, $10M with the Cowboys next year and the Texans will still have $16M in dead voids next year. all for a second rounder and 8 games of Diggs.

This is likely a career ender.  He doesn't have term after this year, the ACL makes him miss most of next year as well.  He will softly fade into the sunset like OBJ post Rams.

 

 

Much like Tre, I feel like Diggs' game relies heavily on the knee joint.  Quick cuts and changes in direction.

 

When I had my ACL done, they got me back to being "active" in 6 months.  It took about another year to really get through all the physical and mental limitations with it when it came to playing sports.  Its really difficult and frustrating.

 

Its going to be tough for Diggs to come back all the way from, based on his contract status, age, and position.

 

 

The trade from the Bills standpoint is a massive win now.

       You can’t predict that type of injury.  Your logic is shot tho when Beane paid for an older Von miller who cost much more than Diggs.  Obviously you can  take into account prior injuries ( tho again Beane ignored the fact miller already sustained one prior ACL AND is older than Diggs).  You can’t base things on future injuries , unless you make the contract incentive laden, which again is usually because of a prior history of missing time due to prior injuries.  Basically, your premise makes no sense as he already took none of that into consideration with miller , so no, Beane won’t come out and say it because it’s a moot point. Best to rethink that one, certainly wouldn’t bet on it!  😂

His agent works for him.  He had the final say on any decision.   Its not likely he'd take responsibility for it, but he has no one else to blame but himself.
