Ethan in Cleveland
https://www.news5cleveland.com/sports/browns/jim-donovan-the-beloved-voice-of-the-cleveland-browns-has-died-at-68 Jim Donovan passed away after a very long cancer diagnosis. He was as much a legend in Cleveland as Van Miller was in Buffalo. Genuinely good guy. I met him once many years ago. He did TV work for NBC for 10 years. His first NBC game he was asked to fill in for someone and that started a ten year career in television. He called several Bills games back in the SuperBowl years. He was named radio announcer when Browns came back to Cleveland and NFL in 1999. 3 3

buffblue
Still remember his call of Kelly's TD run to beat Miami in the 89 opener on NBC. He made the games very exciting to listen to without shouting or being over the top. RIP to a great play by play guy

The entire last 4 minutes of Buffalo's rally from down 24-13 was just incredible announcing. The guy had you on the edge of your seat.

But it was from the three....

GunnerBill
He was before my time but watching the clip of the Kelly touchdown he has the same trait that all old play by play guys seemed to have - he just says what he can see. It is the same with the great old soccer play by play guys over here. They didn't overcomplicate they described what was happening. I feel like both sides of the pond we have a generation of announcers constantly searching for the soundbite. The irony is the soundbites come naturally when you just do your job.
