Lost in the discourse about “sliding” is the fact that the hit by Hamler wasn’t some kind of knockout blow.

He might be able to slide in the open field on scrambles but it will impossible to avoid the standard contact that comes with playing professional football.

It appeared that Tua put his helmeted head down and ran right into Hamlin (not Hamler)

Learn to slide and he can play for years to come. Like any of us could truly walk away from that money at the peak of our physicality and youth. I don’t blame him for playing.

Riiight. Because no QB ever got hit whilst sliding 🙄

I don't blame him for playing but that doesn't mean I don't think it is the wrong decision (made worse by his decision not the wear the Guardian Cap - even if the added protection is not particularly significant, it is still there).

Weird is right. Curious, where do you get “bad character”. Please tell.

Also, like I asked. What are the redeeming qualities behind a person refusing to protect themselves. You sat there are no redeeming qualities, not me. Please explain.

A redeeming quality is a characteristic that counteracts or corrects something negative. For example, if you can only think of one good thing about your neighbor, that one thing is her redeeming quality

Injuries can happen on any play, however his slide against us was dangerous vs sliding properly. He would of avoided a concussion.

wouldn’t you start smoking for $40 million a year?

What the heck does not wearing a guardian cap have to do with making him some kind of bad character with no redeeming qualities?  What a weird thing to say

the guardian cap is a joke—a fig leaf the NFL gets to place over its concussion problem.  None of the claims cited by the NFL for this ridiculous pizza topping have been made available for scientific review.

Independent means not the NFL. I believe the NFL certainly would have a right to step in and tell Tua he isn’t playing as long as the contract is honored.

this has been discussed ad nauseum.  The NFL can’t prevent a cleared player who is under contract from playing.  Nothing in the CBA allows for this simply because the NFLPA would never sign it

his team can.

Not if I was already guaranteed over 100 million without doing another thing.  Honestly it would make more sense if he wasn't already guaranteed hundreds of millions of dollars.  When his family becomes his caregivers at some pre retirement age then he'll realize maybe I should have taken care of myself.

Here’s a question for you just for the sake of debate….

The NFL has had to deal with lawsuits over players suffering concussions and having long term health effects because of them.

Should (or could) the NFL step in and say Tua is not allowed to play any longer and site they are concerned for his well being?

In the foreseeable future I can see some kind of a “League” enforced injury settlement language happening as a result of Tua getting carried off on a stretcher…,

Just hope he doesn't have any kind of concussion as really would hate for him to be destroyed!

No one “wants” to see that, but as the saying goes, you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink…, Tua has had ample opportunity to bow out, if it happens again it will be on Tua and no-one else,

well, you would have to become a smoker to get the contract.  that's the premise.

Are you aware that he switched to a helmet that has similar results as the Guardian cap that the NFL considers an equivalent to the Guardian Cap?

Firstly, yes I was aware.

Secondly, I was actually kidding. Why would he wear a guardian cap while reviewing plays with a Coach Bevell?

Thirdly, regardless of the use of a more effective helmet, IMO he should wear a guardian cap over it during games.
