Logic Posted October 25 Posted October 25 Per his Instagram account, founding Grateful Dead member and bassist for the entire existence Phil Lesh passed away today. The man was 84 years old and, according to the message, died peacefully with his family. Bob Weir once said "death is the best reward for a life well lived", and Lesh's was incredibly well lived. An incredibly original bassist, musician, and mind. No one played like him, no one thought like him. I will miss knowing that he's still playing music in the world, but I'm so grateful to have endless treasure troves of all the brilliant music he left behind. Rest in peace, Phil Lesh. 1 6 1 Quote

RkFast Posted October 25 Posted October 25 Always loved sitting/standing on his side and catching the bass bombs. His playing really drove the band in a lot of ways. 2 Quote

DrW Posted October 25 Posted October 25 RIP. In concerts, to me Phil Lesh always appeared as the "normal guy" who had by accident run into a group of hippies. Quote
stuvian Posted October 25 Posted October 25 I regret not discovering the Dead until too late in life. Lesh got to make a living doing what he loved making great music. By any measure his life was a success. 2 1 Quote
Bad Things Posted October 26 Posted October 26 (edited) Damn. I was just listening to a podcast about him yesterday. (It was surprisingly quite unflattering.) That said, thank you for all of the great music and fantastic experiences. There was nothing like a Grateful Dead concert. Fare thee well! Edited October 28 by Bad Things 1 1 Quote

The Poojer Posted October 28 Posted October 28 Really glad i saw him on his birthday run this year at the capital. It was very obvious he was aging quickly, even stumbled at one point, but dammit he was up there doing what he loved. Walk into splintered sunlight!!!! 1 2 Quote
