Andy Reid: Myth or Mahomes

Allen has put the team ahead 7 times in the closing minutes where McDs D then goes and gives up a score to lose the game. Manning had 4 of them over his career, Brady 3 and Mahommes has 2.

Yeah it’s Allen holding McD back because he’s not as good as Mahommes. 🙄

I think some people overrate Mahomes.

But I also think he's still better than Allen - not in his physical skills but in his decision making.

Allen can make every throw that Mahomes makes and when he's on his game, he's amazing.  But we've heard it from Kurt Warner, Greg Cosell, and a myriad other ex-NFL quarterbacks and film gurus: Allen needs to be smarter with the ball.  He needs to get the ball out "on schedule" as Warner says.  He's got to hit his primary when open on a seven yard dig instead of waiting to see  if something better develops.  Allen's gridiron  greed hurts his efficiency.

Mahomes has been throwing brutal interceptions for a year and a half now. It just never gets mentioned because it's Mahomes.

He also has thrown more TD passes under 5 yards than anyone in the NFL over the last 4 years.

Essentially Reid gives him a lot of easy button throws, especially in the red zone. Allen doesn't get nearly as many although Brady is doing a much better job of scheming guys open than anyone else did.

I watch Allen outplaying Mahomes on a regular basis, regular season and postseason.

different level ? Lol

Josh Allen’s Ranking in Playoffs All-Time

Total TD’s per Game      1st 🥇
Total Yards per Game    1st 🥇
Fewest INT’s per Game 1st 🥇

*Minimum 10 Starts

Don't muddy the waters with facts, man. Mahomes' interceptions are brilliant. There's no other QB in the league who throws them as well as he does. He's just on a different level.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

While in Philadelphia he took the Eagles to the NFC Championship game four years in a row, one year to the Superbowl. When the roster aged he kept the team in playoff relevancy for another few years.

When he went to the Chiefs they rattled off a 10-0 start and turned into perennial division winners.

Off the top of my head I can list John Harbaugh, Pederson, Sirianni and McDermott as active NFL head coaches from his coaching tree.

That doesn't happen by accident. Yes, he has his flaws. Yes, Mahomes put him over the top. How many times have we seen talent squandered? Reid is at the least a good coach.

I'd argue it's the opposite. Mahomes is great, but pair him with another coach not as offensively creative as Reid and i genuinely dont believe he's a HOF QB. This was the perfect team/scheme for Mahomes to go to.

It's this. I think if the Chiefs had Allen and the Bills had Mahomes it doesn't really change much. I think the Bills still lose in the playoffs to the Chiefs.

I also don't think Mahomes is an elite QB any more. It's odd but once Eric Beinemy left they have struggled on Offense. Travis certainly looks slower. You watch their games and everything seems to take so much effort. Meanwhile their Defense just shuts teams down, which gives their Offense more and more chances. My dream in the playoffs is somehow have the Ravens and Chiefs play in the second round but that would require like the Steelers winning their division.

The guy that has more INTs than TDs this season is a better decision maker than the guy with 12 TDs and 0 INTs?  Interesting.

How long does Josh need to outplay Mahomes for him to be better? We are sitting at a season and a half where Josh has been definitely better

It's like the well known saying "football is the ultimate team sport" has lost all meaning. People can't look past the Super Bowls. Don't look behind the curtain where you will find a great HC, great defense, especially in the post season, and the leagues best defensive player.

People always wanna talk about Andy and Mahomes

But The most underrated guy in their dynasty is Spags.

Chiefs defence always shows up in the playoffs and he's the main reason this year that they are 6-0

I think Spags is a good DC but let’s not act like this has been some dominant group since Mahomes has been the starter. They ranked (in yards) 31 (lost afc title game by jumping Offside), 17, 16, 27, 11, 2, and 10 in the Mahomes’ era. The offense used to carrying that team and hope the defense could make a few key plays (like how the Colts were with Manning).

now with Mahomes making big money and thinking he can make any scrub into a competent wr (see the Bills with Allen to start this year), they have put more resources in the defense and it’s greatly improved.

Reid was a good coach who used to get destroyed for his time management and over passing before Mahomes. Mahomes is certainly helped by Reid but Reid also identified Mahomes as the qb he wanted and traded up to get him. It’s a perfect marriage.

mahomes has sucked this year and they are 6-0. And no one will ever admit it, but when you’ve won 3 SBs, it’s hard to get up for regular season games against the Falcons in September. This team is sleep walking and still winning.

You could say the same thing about Allen. I know it’s not popular to act like Allen wasn’t great from the time we drafted him, but he wasn’t. McDermott and Beane did a great job developing him. He joined a team that made the playoffs. They have had consistent top 5 defenses. Allen had the same OC for the first 4 years of his career who won Coach of the Year. They traded a 1st for Diggs. They have used high picks on TEs, RBs and linemen.

the saying is more qbs are ruined than developed. See the Carolina Panthers and Browns. The Chiefs and the Bills have done a great job at developing their qbs and now they are the two best in the league.

I'd take Andy Reid's game acumen and savvy over McD's "how to give games away at the last second" legacy. He built an offense and defense that just wins year after year. He coaches at an elite level. You are what your record says you are and he's the best. Just count the rings. I firmly believe if Mahomes were a Bill he'd still be looking for his first ring.

Reid is an offensive minded HC. In my opinion one of the best offensive minded coaches. He's also smart enough to fill his staff with great coaches. Reid has one of the best DC in the league. So from my perspective Reid is a great HC and deserves the accolades.

I don’t agree on that because I think Mahomes is amazingly clutch and the bills situation was a very good one as well. He has won 2 SBs after trading away Hill.

also, I believe McDermott has had better start to his coaching career than Reid did. I think McDermott and Daboll was a very good coaching combo and doesn’t get enough credit.

I get it, but woulda, coulda, shoulda. I have to go by results. You wouldn't trade Reid for McD?

Ya fair points on Spags during the regular season as he can struggle at times.

But in a big game way more often than not, his defence rises. (Including his time in New York)

If I had to pick one DC in a "got to have it " game, the answer for me would easily be Spags
